HBR- Heh heh, good answer :xyxthumbs

Yeah, being in the right demographic can help a lot...my wife (quite LEO-friendly kind of person) only got a regular ticket for 92/55 and around here that's almost always a guaranteed court appearance.

Same thing in IL. I got pulled for 83 in a 55. Had he caught me 5 minutes earlier, it would have been 120+ in a 55 which definitely would have meant jail.

When you think about it, the triple-digit stuff just isn't sensible for that reason (at least IMO). Once you're in custody all sorts of stuff can happen...

Speaking of inaccurate speedos, I recently ran my [latest accumulation] back to OH from NJ with an utterly inaccurate speedo (improper setup by previous owner) and I ended up getting passed by families in minivans! I just couldn't imagine telling a LEO that "no officer, I have no idea how fast I was going".

My "speed limiter" will :cooleek: at times.

I've posted before how I'm really fortunate in that regard; last time I ran big numbers Accumulatorette asked why I backed off at 138 instead of hitting a round 140. She still falls asleep when I'm flying low..

I can't wait for the day I take courses at Bondurant since it's in my backyard.

Heh heh, if I were that close to them you can guess what I'd be doing ;)

I have fond memories of my Bondurant courses.

Officer ME: "Sir, I've stopped you for disregarding the speed limit."

Stoned Kid: "Heeeeyyyyy Maann, I REGARDED it!"

My personal off-duty top speed... 120mph, Honda 750, Washington Beltway (I know.. pretty wimpy.) The following week, my chain broke while I was putting through a parking lot. God looks after drunks and fools.

LMAO at the stoned kid................up in the mountains around Deals Gap a few weeks ago, I stop a van to ask for directions. Dude was smoking a Cheech and Chong joint and didn't care that I saw one bit.

Funny how going really fast on a bike will make you think of all the stupid things that can cause you to take a digger.

Thank God on that chain, wouldn't have been cool at 120 :bawling:

The latest Autoweek said that Paul Newman was the Bondurandt school's fourth student. Ol' Paul did it right, became a great actor to pay for his racing habit! He lived a very full life; may he rest in peace.

Wow you guys drive pretty fast... Maybe I'm not living up to my age (just turned 19) but I've never gone over 85... and that was in a 75 mph zone. Really I follow pretty basic guidelines for driving: up to 70 on interstates (except for special circumstances like the 75 mph zone), no more than the posted speed limit when it's 35 or lower, and only 5 above everywhere else.

It's not like I drive a slow car or anything... my Altima (2005 V6) can definitely hit higher speeds and I do like mashing the throttle coming off a ramp when I'm absolutely sure there's no one around me (this happens fairly often because I come home from work around 2 in the morning sometimes)... but I can't keep it down for too long before I hit my self-imposed speed limit >.>

I just figure a speeding ticket isn't worth the financial trouble or harassment by the police (although I would absolutely LOVE to go to the track someday).

Edit: Er... I just want to make sure you guys know I'm not insulting you or anything. I just don't have the confidence to go faster.

You sound very sensible :xyxthumbs

As for what other people do, note that some of us are highly trained, and that (high level) driving is a perishable skill. I, for example, get retrained/evaluated every few years and I shudder to think of the [stuff] I got away with before I really learned how to drive...pure luck that I lived to tell.

I tend to be pretty sensible, though I have gotten 1 speeding ticket in my 10 years of driving

Fastest was 140mph in a early nineties Turbo Supra, regularly hit 115-120mph in my cruiser on several high speed chases. In the private sector now and drive the speed limit.

When I was 19 I probably drove even slower, well no but as slow anyway, because in Wisconsin the limit was 55. If you want to learn to drive better enter a local parking lot autocross. Entry fee is minimal and you can run pretty much whatever you drive on the street. You need a motorcycle helmet but for a newb they'll usually rent you one if you don't have it. Get in touch with your local region of the Sports Car Club of America, they'll be glad to have you enter. If you find you're into it, volunteer to work corners at a road racing event. Second best seats in the house, and you'll learn a lot working corners. After doing that I went through my first racing driver's school at age 30. That's when I really learned to drive!

Yeah, I remember a few moments like that in my younger days, though not all at high speed.

I regularly hit 70 on a 40. Top was 85-90 on the same road.

Normal: 10-20 over on 40 MPH road.

10-20 over on highway.

Normally try to go with the flow of traffic.

I have sped in a few dumb spots and I got ticketed once:

17 over in a 30 zone (was going 22 ovr, didn't catch the cops in time), ticketed at 9 over since I was pretty polite and stuff.

Also, I'm kinda proud of the way I drive, but I know there are TONS of people better than me AND that speeding is financially irresponsible, not to mention some of the downright risky stuff that I do. I'm trying to teach myself to calm down, drive slower, and just relax having 20-30 minutes to sit and think.

Heh heh, that first high performance school quickly teaches you just how crappy your driving really is :D

Not the fastest I've gone in my Maxima (limited to 148, but haven't exceded 125) but fastest with the Nuvi switched on.

2002 Maxima w/ 4sp AT: 135 mph

A six speed might hit the 148-150 mark

I have already seen them installing new cameras on the freeways around Phoenix. Also, there are mobile cameras that can be anywhere.

AZ had cameras way back in the '90s when my wife and I were there a lot for training...sounds even worse now. Wonder how involved they get about tracking down who might've been driving rental cars that they catch that way
