I got a ticket on a intersection camera under similar circumstance. I was coming to a very odd intersection that had 3 roads intersecting the area and it was pouring rain and foggy. I could not see the line of where I needed to stop and while I was approaching at about 5miles per hour two flashes. Low and behold, the ticket came in the mail.

I fought it and won. Here is how.

I explained what happened to the Judge and then used the prosecutors own evidence (the photographs) to show I did not go through the intersection but merely crossed the line. I also got certified records of the weather conditions that night and I got off scott free.

If you have a logical explanation and the pictorial evidence supports your claim, fight it and you can win.

thanks for the reply. the only logical reason i can think that it went off is that i didn't wait till the pedestrian was completely across the other side of the street when i made my right turn. but who actually waits until they do these days?

I'd imagine that being caught speeding anything over 100 MPH will automatically get you slammed over the hood and cuffed.

104 in a 40 in Paradise Valley (Arizona) back in 1981 had the cops approaching the car with guns drawn. :nervous2:

Cop only wrote me for speeding since I pulled right over and didn't try to run for it (I had passengers and even though I was close to the Phoenix line, I didn't want to risk it) but the judge seemed really pissed I didn't get a ticket for reckless driving too. Said I had the highest speed he'd ever seen on a ticket and I don't think he meant that in a good way. Ended up with a $187 fine, which was pretty hefty considering I was making about $4.30 an hour.

two tickets

first one was the best .. doing about 120 in and out of traffic on the 405 (aggressive) CHP pulls me over .. says he can get me for reckless and tow my car and put me in jail .. since i was cool (i guess) he wrote me down for unsafe lane change

second doing 90 in a 40 zone on a twisty road .. CHP again pulls me over .. says he can get me for reckless ... cites me for doing 50 in a 40

i love the CHP =)

..Radar detectors are illegal in most provinces (and states, for what it's worth)...

I thought it was nationwide in Canada, thanks for clarifying this. In the US radar detectors are illegal in Virginia and DC; for cars they're legal in the other 49 states. There is a longer list of states that restrict their use in commercial trucks.

Ah, I didn't realize they were legal in so many states. When I lived in CA I didn't think many people had them, maybe because jammers were/are illegal.

Ya, that 50km over thing is Ontario only, it was put in last year as a result of a number of deaths that were attributed to "street racing"; of course it's just reactionary policy. It's not a very popular law here, but I don't think it will be removed any time soon because it makes the province a lot of money. I find most people cruise ~130-140km/h on the 400 series highways and you usually don't get stopped if you're not driving like a moron. It isn't so much the 50 over thing that bothers me, but the fact that the police officer has so much power when they pull you over. They impound your car and suspend your license on the spot, guilty until proven innocent.

Got a ticket today for 110 in a 55 but got out of it because it was my graduation haha :)

Congrats on graduating, and man-oh-man are you lucky you're not in custody with your car impounded ;)

Thanks I know haha It was an unmarked ford 150 white, it was so sneaky I went buy him and didn't even know it. Had regular license plates and no antennas, with a tool box in the back. I was in a hurry because I was a little late for our graduation and everyone was going about 45 in a 55 so kind of flew buy them in the vette, but at the same time caught the cops eye, haha my radar didnt go off and he said I was going 100 but I look at my speed and it was 110 haha

I've driven as fast as 150+ with my '87 944 turbo. I normally drive about 5-10 over. If an officer is around I cruise right at the limit, though I have caught myself doing 7 over along with an officer next to me. I was just matching his speed and not paying attention. He didn't mind though :D . I don't go 5 UNDER just because a cop is next to me. That logic begs for you to be pulled over.

Wonder if he was off-duty; I had some, uhm...interesting interactions with off-duty LEOs back when I drove like a, uhm...irresponsible young guy. Yeah..they can still cite you even when they're off the clock or not officially on traffic-duty.

944obscene- Heh heh, the most "interesting" of those interactions happened when I was driving a Porsche, so yeah...you need to be a little careful what you do in your car ;)

can someone/anyone chime in... i was at an intersection with a photo radar and when the light turned green, i was starting to make my right turn and there was a pedestrian i waited for to cross the street. he got about half way across and i then made my turn and then i saw a flash go off. does the photo radar only start working when the light is red and NOT green? i'm just hoping i did not get a ticket...

p.s. my friend thinks i'm paranoid and thinks it's probably from something else or a glitch...

Generally works only on red or sometimes yellow and red (dependent on jurisdiction). Some of these cameras do double duty as speed and red light cameras.

This Jeep was one that I did back in the fall before leaving the shop. It's owner was a long time family member......I used to bag his groceries back in high school! He is retired, so he keep the interior immaculate and the outside stays clean but not swirl free. He came through for an oil change and I told him what I could do for the exterior. We came to an agreement and he left it with me.

Detail Description:
Exterior Detail with paint correction and protection.

Goal:
To remove all possible paint defects and insure a long lasting, durable finish.

Wash Cycle:
Dawn Wash (2 oz. per 2 gallons of water)...rinse.
then....
Meguiar's Gold Class Wash...rinse.
Clayed using Meguiar's Last touch 1:1

Paint Correction Phase 1:
Meguiar's 105 via G110 using LC Orange 5.5" Polishing Pad utilizing the Kevin Brown Method.

A complete wipedown was done using Meguiar's Detailer Line glass cleaner.

Paint Correction Phase 2:
Meguiar's 205 via G110 using LC White 5.5" Polishing Pad utilizing the Kevin Brown Method

A complete wipedown was done using Meguiar's Detailer Line glass cleaner.

Paint Gloss Enhancing Phase:

Meguiar's D-151 via G110 using LC Black 5.5" Finishing Pad.

This is an awesome step that I've found 151 showing up in. This beautiful product can really deepen the gloss while adding a first layer of protection.

Paint Protection:
Collinite's #476s by hand and Meguiar's hand pad.

The trim and glass were protected by Optimum's Opti-Seal.

Wheel Protection:
Collinite's 476s

Tire Protection:
Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel

Justin,

Awesome job on that Jeep. It looks great. I used to have a 1994 White Jeep Grand Cherokee. I really miss that ride.

Of course, that is before I got into detailing, and my white Jeep never looked that good.

Hi, PrinzII :wavey I don't think I've been in Scottsdale since they got really serious about the cameras

Speaking of speeding, a few weeks ago Accumulatorette got off with just a written warning in the Yukon...52 in a 35, and no mention of the lack of front plate. The LEO even told her he appreciated her good driving record, and that's despite her last speeding ticket being a 92 in a 55! She had our primary K9 with her at the time and I think she was more worried that he'd go all protecto-mode about a strange man approaching her in the vehicle than she was about the chance of a ticket (but no...he's LEO-friendly and stayed cool about the whole thing).

Route 70, midwest - cruise at 79mph usually.

Top highway speed: 141 (Plymouth Laser RS Turbo intercooled) downhill, long runway on Route 176 in PA, noone else on road. Tires checked, wheels torqued, road driven ahead of time to check for hazards. Yes a Plymouth...

Smaller country roads - 5-10 over

30-35 limit areas in small towns - 5 over or less.

All roads, all conditions - drive what speed is comfortable!

These days I dial it back more out of concern for the vehicle than anything else. Remember that a big-number speeding ticket (in my area it's anything in the triple digits) will result in not only your being taken into custody, but also a tow to the impound lot. NO WAY do I want my vehicles subjected to that. Think they're gonna treat your original-paint Autopian jewel very gently? Just a reminder...
