Ultima Paint Guard Plus vs. Opti-Seal

I used UPGP and OS side by side on the hood of my brother's Odyssey. Immediately after application, the UPGP side was noticably wetter. The next morning both sides were very slick but visually, I could not tell them apart. Neither could my brother, my Dad and, later that afternoon, several guests who were there for my neice's birthday party. Even when we pulled it out in the sun, both sides looked identical. My brother runs the van through the local tunnel wash 2-3 times a month so I'll monitor how each side holds up.

Very curious to get this feedback from you.

One of your big selling points with UPGP is the detergent resistance, so I am equally interested in how it holds up. I got about 8 months on his van with Klasse AIO topped with 3 layers of ZFX'ed Z2 Pro and also with Werkstatt's Prime and 1 layer of Acrylic Jett under the same conditions. Poli-Seal topped by Opti-Seal was holding up fine (it better be! ;) ) at the 6 week point.

Perfect response

I think that the price of the UPGP per ounce is practically the same as ZCS and OS, it's a 12oz bottle instead of 6oz so the price is more.

It is the price of the UPPP that I am having trouble with. Is this UPPP really a necessary bonding primer or is it just a AIO meant for those who do not machine polish prior? Do we really need to use the UPPP? Is the durability of UPGP compromised without UPPP even when the surface has been prepped to the max. Some of the posts about UPPP say that the paint is deeper and glossier when UPPP is used before UPGP. Is that the polishing/cleaning at work or the AIO type sealant left behind? Would 2 layers of UPGP, instead of 1 UPPP and 1 UPGP, look better than 2 layers of UPGP. It seems that the 2 layers of UPGP is more cost effective.

I already have Menz SIP, PO106FF and PO85 RD. I can stomach the cost of the UPGP if I do not have to buy the UPPP.

Good question. I too have ZPC, kAIO, zAIO, and BF SRC FP so I'm not looking to get another polish/cleaner.

Don't cringe but . . .

I applied it over TW Ice for improved durability. The UPGP definitely improved slickness and water beading. Shine is difficult to say since the vehicle is white and only a month old. Ask me about durability in a month or so.

In the long run, I plan on using Ultima products on my new vehicle, and DG on the used ones (I had a great experience with AW).

FYI, I am just getting into real detailing - my PC is scheduled for delivery later this week. :waxing:

The dialog on this forum is a terrific resource for us beginners, keep up the great discussions and reviews!

Wow UPGP and turtle wax ice...

I think you should ditch the ice, and stick with the UPGP, I hear ice is great on tires and trim!

The difference b/w CS and UPGP is exactly $.90 per ounce. Add in the forum discount and there might be a bit more savings.

I can vouch for it being great on trim. I had given up hope on getting the white gunk off the trim on my 93 SAAB (mostly Meg CW) but a wipe or two with ICE cleaned them right up. I'll try it on tires and let you know how it works out. At least I'll have the opportunity to use it up. :bigups

UPGP blows Optiseal away. The look, slickness, & durability are a notch above.

Now the price really justifies for me , (price has come down), for me to buy UPGP as my WOWA sealant. I have even decided that it will probably be my LSP of choice for now. I do enjoy appyling/removing a nice soft carnauba wax, but overall, I'm leaning to WOWA products for all seasons. Especially the unique look that UPGP has. Very deep for a light metallic......:2thumbs:

Just got a new bottle, and it was manufactured 6/1/09, very recently bottled.

Must be selling well, well worth the try for anyone who has not used a WOWA product yet.
