Review: Michelin brake dust repellent and 3 n1 tire shine w/pics

anybody willing to try this on their paint  -if it worked it would meen a whole lot less washing :)

ill try it on a small spot on my bumper, report back in a week

I bought the brake dust repellent about a week ago, and I applied it to my clean wheels.

It rained on and off for about a week, and my wheels were very dirty.

When I finially got around to washing my truck, the wheels came clean much easier than usual. I use Eagle one soap left over from washing to do the wheels.

But wouldn't a very slick sealant like Zaino work better than this product, and wouldn't it last longer?

Just curious, since I may get only 4 - 5 applications out of this bottle of brake dust repellent.

That's the issue in my mind...I am having a much easier time with the ES wheels now I am using Poorboys Wheel Sealant.

Joe: Any updates on durability? Thanks :).

Sean, I have been applying it bi-weekly to the SUV and it makes cleaning the wheels much easier. On my car I let it go for a month without reapplying. It seems that you get two weeks of the "benefits" of the product. After the third week (or third wash) the product's benefits diminish.

From what I gather by using it, whatever "repellant" properites it has in the form of "resisting" brake dust washes away fairly quickly. I use it in addition to a sealant on my wheels so for me it is no big deal. If you are looking for something to use in the place of a sealant on your wheels, this is not the product for that. I look at it more like a supplemental product to my sealant of choice (usually UPP or #20 on my wheels).

Does that make sense at all?

Two weeks durability is not bad considering it's just a spray-on application. :)

I guess sealant + repellant is the best protection...

So is the consensus that the Michinelin BDR and Poorboy's Wheel Sealant really serve two completely different purposes? From what I've read:

Michelin BDR: repels brake dust, easier clean-up, short durabilty

PB Wheel Sealant: easier clean-up, great protection, long-lasting, little to no brake dust repellant properties

Just want to get it straight in my head as I want to add wheel protection as an a la carte option to my normal detailing service. I normally don't charge for AIO x 1, LSP x 1 on the wheels but the above will allow me to offer either better bdr or longer protection for just a little more.

Availability is spotty in my area. No Autozone has all three products. I've had to go to 2 different stores to purchase the tire shine and the dust repeller.

A note to skeptics like me, this stuff works!

Im not known to praise many products here, this one really impresses me so far. I have BMW rims and the inevitable BMW brake dusting problem. This spray takes 2 minutes to apply after washing my car and a can will go a long long way.

The first few times I used it the next wash I just did my normal AZ routine until I noticed the dirt would wipe completely clean with water alone. I know a lot here say they never use wheel cleaner but I have never been able to get my wheels to my satisfaction with car wash soap. You can just wipe with your dry finger and the crud just wipes off with no smudging at all.

Thanks for telling us about it ebpcivicsi

I've had my first application of this stuff on for about two weeks and it's still working. One main reason is probably because it's only driving 2 or 3 times a week. But anyway, I've washed the car twice since apply it and cleaning my wheels has never been simple.

alright everyone, you might want to check your local autozone as they have some clearance items that are anywhere from $.99 - $4.99 (may differ from store to store). i found the michelin brake dust repellent for $.99 each, so i bought three....

Thanks for bringing this thread back. At the time I checked out a lot of stores but had to give up...then I forgot about it. Wheels are now officially my #1 most hated detailing task.
