I found my favorite light compound/polish! OTC too

:LOLOL I know the feeling of having too many polishes. My whole family thinks I have major issues, plus I have been buying stuff almost every other week for the past 10 years. I just hate when I waste my money on something that does not work. I do have some pretty amazing polishes now. Buying new stuff is the only thing that keeps me from hating detailing. Now I just can't wait till spring!

My girlfriend gets so mad when I buy another polish. I try to hide it but when ups comes it's a dead giveaway. That's why I love otc products.... she never will know.

My Girlfriend:nomore: Me::geez

I am surprised also that autopia does not have counciling for guys like all of us that can't stop buying new detail stuff. It's all fun though and I am glad that we have this site to chat with and share product info with each other.

rydawg, have you ever tried any of the Sure Finish polishes. I was reading on the forums at the autobodystore.com and alot of people were commenting on how they like the Sure Finish line better. They were saying that they go a better final finish and that it doesn't contain fillers like Presta does(not sure which products they were talking about). If you have used both lines, do you still prefer the Presta line and why?

i just bought the 1500 and ultra cutting cream light at aratari auto finishers they will ship if any one is intrested you can reach them toll free at 1877aratari or sales@aratariautofinishers.com ask for paul piccini he is a great guy and will give you a good price

I see you hooked up with them, cool. Did you take a walk around and check out their selection on the shelves?

I can highly reccommend thier Excite Instant Finish Glaze. Mostly all of the Aratari labeled stuff is autobody safe which is one reason I use it.

Sure Finish is a line of products developed by one of the guys who frequent the board, he does a lot of show cars (usually after they come out of the paint booth).

The Autobody Store is in NJ you should give Len a call and ask him. One thing about Len is that he doesn't sell what he doesn't like.

Funny you mention that. I have not used it, but I looked at there board a month ago and I had seen that sure finish and it did catch my eye. I had read that some people prefer it over presta, but what makes them choose it over presta? It's like some people prefer megs over menzerna....Why? The only way to find out is I have to buy some and test it to my torture test, a bunch of used cars (different makes and colors)! The only thing I am concerned is that they say sure finish is better, but they are using it on new paint and not aged oem paint. I will have to pick some up though and I will have to talk to the guy Len.

The way I look at it is he will not sell what he does not like...that says a lot about him and his products. He only sells what he will put his pride label on and presta is one of them. If sure finish is better, then I am more than sold, cause it is hard to beat them.

Side Note: A lot of people say that presta has fillers in them. There compounds and polishes DO NOT contain fillers, silicone or waxes. Now there glaze/polish does have a filler in it. They use to have 3000 Aroura glaze and 2000 polish and they use to have some fillers in them and people refer to these. You have to understand some body guys love glazes, but they complain about fillers. Go figure!

I highly recommend Presta 1500 polish and ultra cutting light. I do not know about sure finish, but I am sure it is well worth it, especially if they compare it to presta!

That says a lot about himself and his products! All he sells is presta and sure finish and I think his sure finish might also be another good winner...maybe.

rydawg. based on your enthusiasm I bought some cutting cream, cutting cream light, light swirl remover, and 1500 polish.....tried it on a '98 MBZ S420 (silver/gold metallic) I just bought and they worked great. I was told the car had only been washed with Joy dish soap, dried with bath towels, and given some cleaner wax a few times and surprisingly the scratches and swirls were not very bad....because the clear is dam hard!!

I clayed it first with ebay clay and poorboys s&w as lube. clay created a bit of marring but I didn't mind because I was going to polish anyway.

I did 1/2 of the trunk lid first with an edge orange pad and Poorboys 2.5. After 2 attempts, I went up to the green pad for 2 more passes to get things nice. Tried the cutting cream light on the other side and got the same results with 1 attempt.

I then tried the swirl remover on 1/4 of the hood. BAM! looked great.

sun went down so I called it a day.

I'll finish up tomorrow and try the cutting cream and polish

Joy soap! Some people just have no idea about car care and the damages that it may cause. Thank god it has durable hard paint!

You will like them. I have compared them to everything that I have bought and I still like the presta cause it works faster and the results are amazing. Presta and Menzerna are my favorites and play well with each other. Just be careful of the regular ultra cutting creme if you use with a rotory. It's cut is very fast, but will turn to a gloss. I love that one also, but I do not reccomend to just anyone cause it is very coarse and in the wrong hands with a rotory can do harm. Works great on hard high solid paint like mb, bmw, boats and corvettes. I use this only if nothing else will do the job. You will need a finish polish after. The light version is great for all paints though.

I have not tried the swirl remover yet cause I have way too much menzerna. I have heard very good things about it though and I will try some soon.

The 1500 polish, I only use on my rotory with wool pads to create a glass like surface if I do not need a compound before my finish polish.

The ultra cutting creme light I use with my pc and a yellow lc pad or white and the finish comes out great.

The Strata 1000 works great on soft finishes.

Tell me how the swirl remover is and post some pics if you can.

Thanks

Ryan

rydawg,

Thanks for sharing all of your experiences with the Presta stuff!

I am currently looking for a heavy duty compound to take out some scratches with a PC that have only laughed at SSR2.5 and SFX-1 (both with orange LC) for multiple passes. The scratches do not seem to be deep and I cannot feel them with my fingernail, but they just don't want to come out!!! Would you suggest the Ultra cutting creme or the light version? I usually finish out with FPII or FK1 215 and I'm going to be getting some yellow LC pads in soon.

Thanks

Brian

Thanks!

Does this ultra cutting creme light dust alot by PC or Rotary. Also when you say that it cuts fast, is this with a PC or Rotary. thanks

I assume applying this by hand won't yield any results worth that would make it worth my purchase?

It can be used by hand, but will take you a little while. The results are still good. A pc is an awesome tool and I could not be without it.

Depending on what color and what make your car is for paint type and is this only used for a pc only?

You may want to step up to a yellow pad. I do not like the orange pads, but that is just me. SSR 2.5 is some good stuff also and I am surprised it will not take out what you want. However the ultra cutting creme light should take out what you want with little effort. Try some with a pc on a yellow pad and if this not work then try the regular ultra cutting. Use caution with this version as it has an extreme bite. I normally do not use this with a pc, cause most of the time if I am stuck at this point I just grab my rotory with the light version. But it's up to you and try what works for you and your finish.

If any one of these compound or polishes should happen to clump up due to too much product or too much contaminates on the paint, just spray a little water on the pad or surface and this will loosen up the polish and break it down even finer and will then create an extremely glossy surface.

By pc it does not dust much at all. It really depends what's on the surface of the paint. By Rotory I sometimes get dust but then again I use it at higher speeds to speed up the process of gloss and a clean surface. Just use it at 1500 to 1800 and you should be ok!

Pc and a lc yellow or white pad will work great on paint that is in average condition with great results.

rydawg,

Thanks for the reply! The cars are light in color (pearl white/silver) but they both have been resprayed due to front end accidents so the hood does not polish out like the rest of the car. SSR2.5/orange LC/PC@6 works wonders on the rest of the car in one to three passes but I have done numerous passes on the hoods and can't get those scratches out.

Maybe I'll just try the 2.5 with the yellow, but sounds like the UCCL should work out with quicker results and possibly finish down nicer.

Thanks again!
