Have Click N Brags "Jumped the Shark"???????

Do you know what I have noticed on other fourms? What gets attention are G35s, 335s, S2000s and WRXs. Exotics do too, of course but it seems the mid-priced performance cars that most people can afford or want to buy when they can afford one get the love.

Very true, it does seem that the cars that get a good amount of attention are those that are semi-dream cars (they are easier to attain with a little more hard work.)

For me forums have become boring because everyone seems to have turned so fake....everyone seems so concerned about their online persona, they can't even be who they really are. Several months back I had a conversation :phone: with a well respected member that left me scratching my head........they acted so different then the way they do online....just be yourself. If I can tell your fake, I'm sure others can too

Great thread David :bowl:

Personally, I enjoy seeing real in depth click n brags. I also remeber back when click n brag threads were common and easily had 100 pics in a thread showing every possbile area of the vehicle, and really gave you an idea on how much focus was given in the detail showing the true turnaround. Threads like those were kind of inspiring and gave me ideas on my details, and helped me improve my techniques. Now a days, its more common the see a couple before exterior pics, followed with a couple afters

Alright Flash, if you get a call from an old Icelandic woman with a Portuguese accent, don't hang up.

It's just me. :Banane20:

I enjoy the click n brags, I do like how people break down the details to explain the process and how to resolve a problem.

I don't get too excited about the Exotics.

I like the bread and butter daily driver transformations and the huge turn around's on salvaging a totally trashed older vehicle and restoring it into something proud enough to own and drive. Those are my favorites...

I read and reread many of the articles here and use the search function to glean as much info as I can from everyone here.

I'm not a huge poster mostly because I don't think I'm worthy enough to post anything of quality or do work as good as many of those dedicated here that detail for a living. My hat's off to you all.

But I'm willing to learn and enjoy the forum. I find it very helpful for me.

Thx...

That is not true - not everyone. :)

David, excellent thread.

I think this is a hugh problem here. For whatever reason this site has always seemed intimidating to post on. I think if the weekend warrior that wants to post up the 28hr "Detail" that he/she performed on their DD they should be able to do so w/out worrying what kinda response they will recieve :nervous:

As far as Click-n-Brags in general. I think if someone takes all the time to document and post, they should at least take the time to come back and thank the ppl who responded. Not only is it common courtesy, its a great way to bump your thread! Plus you won't look like a douchebag in the process :yo:

I just get tired of all the "politeness/generic answers" sometimes :puke:

What's wrong with a weekend warrior posting a CnB about their DD here? What kind of response are they "worried they will receive"?

This forum is not a haven for flaming people who are trying to learn and improve by delving deeper into what they're doing and trying to understand why things work the way they work.

Hmm... I see less of that (the generic answers) here than I do on some other forums.

Because if you don't "fall in line" with the "sheep" you probally want recieve a response at all

Honestly, I could do w/out the Click and Brags all together. Pictures and Videos never show the true outcome anyway

Are you confusing this with AGO, Flash?

Hmm.... I wouldn't go so far as to use those kinds of absolutes.

I guess we could argue back and forth for a few pages on this, but I just don't have that desire tonight Charlie

I'm well aware this is Autopia.org, not Autogeekonline. Thanks for the heads up though

If I am just doing a basic 1 DA polishing step on the paint, then there probably isn't much to see. The added depth and gloss may or may not show up in the pictures.

It all depends Scott, here is a pic of a single stage correction I did with my DA last week.

Even though I have been detailing for around 20 years, I have only been on the forums for the last three or so and I can honestly say that if it wasn't for guys posting their write ups, the quality of my work wouldn't be where it is today. Guys posting their work showing methods, supplies and results have had a tremendous impact on how I detail. Seeing the transformations made me want to upgrade my skills and take my work to another level. I hope there will always be guys willing to take the time to do these write ups so the newbies can be inspired as well.

Not quite sure where your attitude is coming from, but "Whatever you say, Flash" :noidea:

I'm probably more likely to check that out and post a positive comment (if it's even remotely deserved) than most Pro C&Bs.

I don't care what somebody uses as long as the results are good and he's not killing the vehicle (e.g., taking off way too much clear). When somebody who's not a pro, or even an expert, does a nice job on a real-world driver, I myself think it's interesting and worth checking out.

And heh heh, I never get tired of politeness :grinno:

But yeah...I'm the guy who's always saying how you can't put too much stock in internet photos. Gotta make some assumptions and, well..you know what they say :o ;)

that's the good stuff right there. love seeing a regular car go from trashed to like-new

wow.

I hold all the respect I can offer to the members of autopia.org and everyone in the detailing world that completes the job correctly.

No cut and hack with a razor blade and glaze, no after photos that show more work that needs to be completed and no excuses for "it's the lighting in the photo. in person it looks better".

The user names, business names and people that follow up their recent works on a level beyond what "detailers" offer are the true detailers.

The bastardization of the title "Auto Detailer"... No point in trying to change the title for the few that complete the work correctly. They bust their asses with multiple hours of work outside a 9-5 or "shift" job.

Works of art are completed when the work requested is not limited by the customer.

I know i'm not on the level or a person like Shine Time, Barry Teal, Garry Dean, and soo many others that regularly post works of such caliber.

I also know i'm not on the level or a "detailer" that will complete the work in 1 hour for $XX while claiming it will be "show car level shine".

Thanks to sites like this, I'm somewhere in the middle.

I can park my truck at any given location with hundreds of other cars and have it looking better than 99% of those in sight.

A person will not understand or appreciate the work and effort taken to keep an automobile looking good until they have the education and chance to match a detailers efforts.

I may not comment on the threads of various supercars and classics that list the hours of effort and products used, but I do appreciate the information, product presentation and before/after comparison. This helps me in selecting a product, correct use of the product and helps identify best practices for issues I may encounter keeping my own vehicles clean.

One day I'll post in the click n brag section, but for now the hesitation is deficient efforts to the greats mentioned above.

Not worthy unless it's on the same level.

It will make a person feel good to post their efforts and receive some praise.

The OCD people will feel good about the work completed as they snap a photo, but in reviewing the photos and seeing how much was left behind will keep them from posting such work.

OK. Enough of that.

Even if I dont post a response in the lastest Pro Detailer thread, you all should know there is some monkey out there looking at it with a smile saying "wow!"

cheers!
