If I were allowed to get a CC license (very hard in NY) and I was on site when one of these turkeys started doing what they did in California I would only hope that I would have been able to stop it-or at least, minimize the loss of human life.
My issue is, so here I am a good Samaritan trying to help and the police roll up on the scene and here I am firing away, how to you not get shot? They are human too.
The other larger issue is, how do you live with yourself if you miss the bad guy and that bullet keeps going and hits a innocent by stander. And don't say practice, if I owned I would-I am good at anything that I need to be, and if I owned I would be practiced until I was proficient-its my nature. I have fired a real gun before and its nothing like the movies, plus add stress and adrenaline and its really not an easy feat. I go both ways on if an armed public is better or worse.
My good Friend,
Unfortunately, it IS only Practice - all the time, so it has become a reflex to you when your eyes see and your brain tells you - that looks like some ya-hoo coming through the door with an Kalashnikov, that you (because you have already settled this in your deepest part of your heart and soul), have only a tiny moment in time to quickly get it out and make a very accurate head shot or chest shot with a round capable of stopping that person in his/her tracks.
And if one does not make that micro-second choice in time, the wall of hot lead from that AK is going to neutralize everything it is pointed at until it runs out of rounds..
You would not worry at that moment about collateral damage if any, but think about the amount of damage and death that could be prevented if one is ready and willing to sacrifice your life to save others..
You will be able to live with yourself if you survive the evil bad people today... All of our Dad's, Uncles, and Grandfather's did this without all the treatment available today.. These were really, really, good, strong, Men...
It was not easy, there were lots of bad dreams, nightmares, etc., that followed some to the end, but they did it because they wanted to help complete the bigger picture in their hearts and minds..
If the Police roll up and see you a citizen under fire, I am sure they will be able to quickly determine that the source of fire is the problem and not shoot you in the process... We all have to have faith that they will do their part correctly as well..
Remembering the Wild West for example, I am sure no one came up and said " drop that .44, Uncle Milty", it was more like whoever had the biggest gun and drew first and fired accurately won the battle, argument, etc...
Lucky for us, because so many of these bad people are not very well trained, there is time to do what needs to be done, but it has to be done quickly and accurately...
No time to reason with them, no time to ask/tell/yell/etc., if they stop and just stand there and have to find another magazine, well, that is open season to fire down on them Now...
Yes, the adrenaline makes it harder, just ask anyone who is in police work, but it can be very good for you too if you know how to use it...
Yeah, I know, gonna have to practice some more...
It appears that no one in that conference room was carrying, but not all the facts are out yet, and it is just too bad...
It is also just too bad that a neighbor next door to those people noticed their activity and chose not to report for fear of being racist, or something...
