So I need to get back in shape somethin terrible. With our busy schedule and having kids I need a little extra motivation, so my wife and I are going to do a 5K and start out using C25k Couch to 5k - C25K Running Program Basically it's a program to get you off your couch and to the point of being able to run 5k in 8-9 weeks. Download the app on your phone and it literally tells you what to do and when to do it.

I thought it could be fun/helpful to do it with other people. With that program you can track yourself and share your progress. If I get enough interest I may start a facebook group, but if nothing else it could be helpful to keep eachother accountable and motivated on here.

Planning on starting Sunday (first week is only 3 days for just 30 minutes/day). Anybody up for it?

I hired a personal trainer 2 months ago. The first 2 sessions went okay. The 3rd he liked to have killed me. I was sore for 5 days after. Told him to keep the remaining 5 sessions I had purchased

:swirly:

Hope you have better luck

Honestly the biggest reason I'm following that program is so I don't start off too fast and injure myself.

I haven't seriously ran in a couple years, so I want to make sure I ease back into it

Get yourself a Reel Lawn Mower, great workout as you do a task around the House. Gives me a great workout every time and gets the job done. Doesn't take up space in my garage, doesn't stink up the place with gas fumes and it's not loud/does not disturb neighbors. That combined with alternate short intense workouts throughout the week and better eating has gotten me into shape/significant weight loss and it's the easiest approach I've taken so far, most effective one as well without feeling obligated to get in a monotonous workout routine that will cause me to flake out.

Running is terrible on your knees. I have a customer that's addicted to it. He can run like the wind, but can barely walk

:burn:

Im going to start beach training, long distance is out the question for me though. Pavement eats up knees, train on the sand. You'll get stronger(resistance) , fitter (salt air) and an won't hurt yourself as long as you stretch. Regardless of what you choose, STRETCH. Thats how injuries happen.

The built up fat around my mid section is terrible for my overall health lol. I've got some local people that want to get in on this with me and nothing snaps me back into shape as quickly as running does, plus I do enjoy it. After this 8 or 9 weeks is up I'll transition to a mix of weights, bike, and running.

That sounds awesome. Unfortunately I live a looong way from sand and salt air

Fat around mid section can be taken care of with Liposuction
Screw all that heavy weight lifting

Btw ~ Nothing burns more then core exercises, if you can try calisthenics. I use no weight an it gets you in insane shape, like raw animal shape lol.

If somebody doesn't like their workout, and see/feel positive results, then they won't stick to it. Period. And not working out will eventually lead to debilitation. Gotta stay in-shape to enjoy a whole lotta stuff in life.

House of Wax- I'm not into running or endurance work like 5K, but I applaud your efforts to get in shape. Whatever your motivation, whatever your approach, doing *something* is better than doing nothing. Just do what you can to avoid injury.

ronkh- Heh heh, every time you post that [crap] about being old, fat, and lazy, I wanna give you a righteous talkin' to about changing that, starting with not saying/thinking it. I want you to still be healthy, happy, and active for a good long time yet.

Can't run anymore my knees don't like it, comes from running marathons in my twenties..after a few injuries I took up bicycle riding, that turned into racing...today at 60 I ride 5 days a week and cover 180 miles a week. Pic was taken a few months back after I came in from riding
Keep up the good fight it's worth it! 11124493_10205579931271421_6683641978912546813_n.jpg
