Soooo who wants to train for a 5K with me?

House of Wax- I love all the good results you're posting about!

Some thoughts on your three points:

1) Probably *not* a coincidence; as with most everything else, go by your experience and find what works for *you*

2) That's gotta be *so* satisfying! And there's nothing like turning back the clock, huh?

3) During the winter, maybe you might try my version of cardio- brief, infrequent, *very* hard intervals; now that you're in better shape my approach might be worth considering (for people who aren't in shape it might be a Rx for a heart attack)

HIIT is definitely on the radar as something I'm going to do at some point

It's very time-efficient, over-and-done with in no time.

(This morning was StairMaster Day: 5 minute warm-up, 8 minutes of 2:1 intervals, 5 minute cool-down; next time is AirDyne Day: 3 minute wu, 4 minutes of 2:1 intervals, 3 minute cd.)

Welp......just finished the 8 week program tonight. Gotta say this is one of the most gratifying things I've ever done in my life (not sure if that's pathetic or not). I literally feel better than I have in years. Probably the biggest thing I'm surprised by is how well my knees are feeling. I was really worried before I started back up running again that I wouldn't be able to keep at it due to knee issues. I think sticking to this program was a big help as it kept me from going at it too hard and allowed my body to get back in it in a good way. It was several runs into the program before I started tracking with runkeeper, but I went from a first tracked workout of:

28 minute workout at a pace of 11:45/mile for a total of 2.45 miles

ended tonight with:

40 minute workout at a pace of 9:28/mile for a total of 4.23 miles.

In the next few days I'm going to run a timed 5k just to see where I'm at (all of the workouts had a 5 minute warmup walk and a 5 minute cooldown walk included in the time/distance). I'm super interested to see where I'm at there.

I've got a few options I'm tossing around to proceed from here.....haven't quite decided yet though.

House of Wax- Hey, congratulations!! It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to see a program like that through. No doubt it's gratifying!

!!NO, THAT IS NOT PATHETIC IN THE LEAST!!

Wonder how that timed 5K will turn out, I'll be intersted to hear about it.

The way this whole thing turned out *so* positive oughta be great with regard to "incentive to continue", huh?
