When I was 15, I bought a 1926 Model T.
Actually hooked a chain up to it and pulled it out of a barn.
It was an old 1/4 mile drag car. It had a 283 Chevy engine with a 6-pack. Packard 4-speed transmission, and a Columbia 2-speed rear end.
The frame was home made, the fenders were homemade from fiberglass.
It had a homemade wooden box on the back of the t-bucket shell that was supposed to be a replacement for the turtle deck, but was actually only big enough to hold a couple of 6-packs stacked on top on one another. This wooden box, (it was more than a box, it was "Ornate", as in someone spent a lot of time crafting it to look cool), had 1967 GTO Tail lights form-fitted into it and 45 degree angles.
It had a 6" dropped I-beam axle, skinny tires up front and Goodyear smoothie racing slicks on the back.
It had the original windshield, (large and glass), and the original steering will except the steel portion was chromed and the outer wooden portion was refinished in a high gloss lacquer I think. The steering wheel was the most beautiful part.
Now days, something like that would be sought after because it was an original 60's drag car, kind of like a race car out of a time capsule. Back in those days, the Packard 4-speeds mated to Columbia 2-speed rear-ends was the cool thing to have.
Just so everyone doesn't think I'm Grandpa, this was in 1976.
All of my friends were driving 60's and 70's Detroit Iron, (Mustangs, Camaros, Demons, etc.), or the first generation of Hand-me-down Asian imports, (Datsun B210's, Toyota Corollas, and Honda Civics).
I had spend the ages from about 11 to 15 reading Hot Rod magazine, so I wanted a traditional hot rod.
Don't have any pictures, just memories. I never drove it, back then I didn't have the skills to rebuild motors, hook things up and make them go etc. just big dreams.
Later in life that all changed... I had a monster truck in the early 80's when Monster Mudders first came out. I was the first one in my town to have 44" tall tires on my truck. When I bought my truck, a 1971 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4-wheel drive, it had a small block in it. After building up a 402 big block Chevy engine, rebuilding a 2 ton military transfer case, a Dana 44 and Dana 60 rear end with 4:11 gears and Detroit Lockers, etc, I pulled the truck into my shop on a Friday about 12:00 noon, and then backed it out ready for the street with a big block 24 hours later. (Did everything myself). I have a picture of this one. I also cut the top off of it and had a half-cab convertible top made for it. Drove it trouble free for about 8 years and pulled my Drag Boat all over Oregon with it. It had about a 4' drop hitch hooked to a 12" I-Beam bumper.
Mosca posted a thread about listing all the cars you’ve owned on MOL, I never have responded to it because I don’t have time to recall from memory all the cars I thrashed, errr… I mean owned, like the Bat Truck (I have a picture of that one too, actually was pulled over by the Police while towing the Drag boat because they thought I stoled the boat)
