What vehicle are you thinkng about buying and why?

You WILL like my work!
Just wondering what everybody might be thinking. We are still a few years away from it, but the next car we want to get is a Lexus, maybe just one or two years old if possible. For the luxury and dependability and because we've never had a car that nice (though we've both had new cars before).

Considering the present gas crunch, that might enter into people's decisions too. But along those lines I remember panicking once in the early 80's over the same reason, buying a rabbit and being very sorry in the ensuing months that followed. Good gas mileage but mechanically a lemon. So lesson is try not to panic and still take every factor into consideration.

-Four-cylinder Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic with less than 60k miles: for MPG and reliability. It would be the year-around daily driver.

-Kawasaki Ninja 250R or similar: Also for better gas mileage, but for summer fun too.

-and last but not least, a 98-02 Trans Am WS6. Not exactly practical, but eh...

Ditto on the Kawasaki Ninja 250r, just have to bring myself to part with the VFR :( This is going to be a great year for Kawasaki with that bike. They have completely redesigned it for '08 with more sportbike styling than the stale 20 year old looks it sported last year...

I've always like BMWs, especially the 3-series and was planning on getting one as soon as finances allowed. However I thought I should support an American manufacturer or at least give them a shot first and see if I like anything. I'm thinking of getting a Cadillac CTS instead.

I would consider the new VW diesel that they're bringing over but its only available in the Jetta which is too much of a "chick" car to me. I would prefer the GTI or even the Rabbit with that new diesel. I might at least look at a Rabbit anyway since they are a little more economical and pretty cheap too relatively speaking.

I just fell in love with the Lexus isf or the Audi s4 avant, either way both are great company cars for advertising on.

My company car is a Prius. If it had AWD and a sunroof, I think even if I had to buy a personal car I would look no further.

The hybrid aside, it's an extremely well engineered car. Build quality, interior room, quiet, touchscreen interior controls, lots of storage space. It'll will easily swallow mountain bikes, snowboards, etc. I really am happy with it's front legroom, and rear legroom is even more surprising!

I guess I'd go with an AWD Prius (if they had one) or a Hybrid (if they had one) Outback.

I would like the lexus is-f, but sometimes I just don't feel like spending 60k on a car, so I was also thinking about the 2009 acura tl. If it comes out and I like it, tl (about 40k), if I don't like it, the lexus.

I seriously looked at a 135. I changed my mind based on the fact that I don't need to spend that much on a car. I now follow the theory of debt is bad.

Next weekend I will be picking up a 2004 Porsche Boxster S with 25k miles. Thanks to the bad economy the owner was desperate to sell it.

my next car will probably be the next gen mazdaspeed6 that comes out in 2010. assuming i have a steady enough income to afford the payments with out putting my current car as the down payment. (im only 18, and plan on never selling my current car)

I was looking at the new Mini Clubman.

I want something small with lots of available space to carry detailing gear with easy access. Good gas mileage and a sporty image makes it interesting.

One thing I don't plan on doing is buying a vehicle without having all of the $$$ to pay for it upfront.

100% agree with that now. It's kind of hard to get over the common mentality of instant gratification. I have to remember that I'm only 22 and that a car that doesn't eat up my excess income is a good car. I may eventually have my BMW, but it won't be in the next while.

I can afford the payments on a car, so I can afford the car, right?

Hm. Possibly a 2000-2001 Sentra SE w/ performance package (5 speed) or a Protege ES for a similar price.

I was going to work a second job this summer to help pay for a more expensive car, but I've started volunteering at a refugee shelter and I'd much rather spend my time doing that than having an OMGzuperHOTcar. I've really been at odds with myself and how I'm going to make a difference in the world. Maybe I'll just get old and selfish.

That's the way to do it. I've been in the car business 26 years and ever once in awhile I come across a super great deal, but not often. Now would be the time some people are desperate to unload something that guzzles gas or they just need the money.

If I can find a low mileage 02/03 6 speed Maxima, that is what would replace my '02 (automatic) Maxima (really don't like the '04 and newer versions) but they are getting harder to find. More realistically, it would be a 6 speed Altima coupe.

I was lucky, the car was almost repoed by the bank because he fell behind in his payments. I got the car for a steal. I do feel bad for the guy because he lost his job but hey I have a new porsche. :getdown

My advice is "BUY when everyone is selling and SELL when everyone is buying"

You have the right mind set. I just turned 31, and it's only been in the past 4 years that I've realized saving as much money as you can, and not always increasing your life style once you start making more money as you get older, is the right road to go down. Try to tuck every spare dollar you can away into savings or a 401k, and learn how to invest it. When you're older and able to retire with peace of mind, it'll all be worth it. Plus if you manage your money well, you'll be able to afford a nice car when you're in your 30's, w/o having to be in debt for it.

To answer the topic's question:

My car wife's car was recently totalled and we researched and bought her a Honda Fit. Inexpensive, fantastic MPG, and surprisingly very roomy inside (both front and back). Real fun little car to drive as well. Couldn't be happier our decision.

Which Porsche did you get?

As for me, I'm waiting for the Porsche GT2 to arrive. List is limited for orders.

I like the Audi R8 looks, but after driving one, the steering feels too numb and not as true as a Porsche steering. R8 does handle very well, but a bit squeemish in the corners and brakes are touchy. Sure looks really nice though!

Then, for the best bang for the buck, the new GT-R is the way to go for a serious sports car that can out lap a Turbo Porsche! Very serious car for a whole lot less $$.

Also, I need a new foul weather car. Need a small SUV or wagon, not sure yet on what.
