What do you wipe your glass down with?

detaildoc & SuperBee364- Those PakShak WWs for glass were my favorites, but they eventually started leaving behind that irritating MF lint. Mine were always washed/dried separately, no chance of cross-contamination...it's like they just wore out or something :nixweiss But for cleaning winter salt-residue messes off without streaking, they were *great*. Still *are* great...sometimes I still use 'em and just try to get the lint off afterwards.

My experiments with cotton "surgical huck towels" were unmitigated disasters.

The zero-nap glass MFs work OK, but I always end up going back to my Griot's Polypropylene Glass Towels for the final passes.

On the 1Z glass polish, I can't get it to work streak-free  :nixweiss I like 1Z stuff in general, and I sure won't rule out user-error, but after making a smeary mess of numerous windows (and yeah, I was working it sufficiently, tried all sorts of variations of technique) I simply tossed it into one of the also-ran boxes.

Interior: the damp WW MF that I dried the remaining water off - after blowing w/ the leaf blower - then turned inside out. I find no need to follow this up w/ anything else.

Exterior: every so often I use a clay bar w/ SIG as a lube then finish w/ a final spraying of SIG using at least week old newspaper to wipe down.

Really? I've had mine for over 4 months now and I used them weekly and no problems at all. How were you washing them? I always wash them in the gentle cycle with a bit of Woolite Original and hang them to dry. Did you put them in the dryer or use a powder detergent?

Ive been using Meguiars Detailer line glass cleaner for awhile now and absolutely love the stuff!

Only thing Im having trouble with is finding a good towel. Lately Ive been using the glass towel from ADS and it does 'ok.' I used it today and Im finally laying down a good technique for cleaning the glass. Ive yet to look at the glass really good in some good sun rays so I will see.

I used Stoners before the megs and never really had any problems with it. The windows did seem to fog alittle more with it then they have with megs. Ive actually never had them fog since using the megs but Ive not used the megs during the summer months yet. We will see. :)

I used SIG for years and years (with a mf). A month or so ago, I ordered some things from Griot's for my garage (can racks, etc.). I got a free sample of their window cleaner and just stuck it in my household cleaning stuff as a back up. Well, last week I couldn't locate my SIG to do some mirrors inside, so I grabbed the Griot's. Wow. It worked so well on house stuff that I went out and tried it on my car windows. Incredible. It's actually easier to use than SIG. It takes a lot less and has less of a tendency to streak-even if you don't polish it all off like you have to with SIG. Windows were perfect in half the time.

I've never been a fan of Griot's - I've always that their stuff was average / sub par for the price. However, the Glass Cleaner is a winner. I hate to admit it, but I actually like something from Griot's. :) It's good enough that I'll order some when I run out of my sample - even though I get doubly screwed (shipping + tax) being in Indiana.

Nobody is using Surgical Huck towels? I use the 2-towel method for glass cleaning:

Spray the glass with *any* glass cleaner

Scrub with Surgical Huck towel (folded into 4's)

Buff with MF (folded into 4's)

How many people put their windows down a few inches to do the tops?

I always do this.

Right now I'm using an ONR mixture on the glass (it's around 8:1ish) and it works well. However, with this crazy weather we had in Buffalo yesterday (mid 80's...wow!) I got some streaking if I went over too large of an area and couldn't wipe the residue off fast enough.

This is all with MF towels.

I always do mine opened, and with my Mustang the top is exposed then.

I use 2 MF towels and SIG.

I am seriously envious of all you folks who don't get MF lint issues!

kompressornsc- Yeah, I too really like the Griot's Glass Cleaner. Try out those polypro window towels with it some time.

Of course there are probably a zillion different variations on the huck towel theme.

I do use the two-media-in-sequence approach and, as you might've guessed, yeah I do roll 'em down to do the top portion (well, not always on the rear windows of the dog-haulers :o but I spend enough time on their glass as it is..I spend a lot of time *every day* doing vehicle glass).

Accumlator - what went wrong when you used the Huck towels? I learned that it takes several washes to break them in so they absorb and work properly. I had a client that was a Doctor(Surgeon) and he would bring me a large bag of used Surgical Towels every time he needed his car cleaned. I love them because thay are lint free, thin and absorb alot of wetness. They won't leave the surface 100% "film" free (with 1 sequence), but that's where the 2nd towel comes into play to do the final clean.

Try the Danase glass towels. These are the only completely lint free towels I have found.

Clearkote's Quikshine and 16 x 16 MF towels. I get compliments all the time on the glass, including how QS makes the water fly off the windshield when driving.

Quickshine does a wonderful job, I now use it instead of Rain-x. I only apply it probably once a month to keep the beading up. Between washings, and while filling the car at the gas station, I'll go over the windows with ONR QD.

itb76- Thanks for the tip on Danase window towels, I always like to toss business Bob's way, so if I decide to retry the whole MF-for-glass thing I'll keep those in mind.

David Fermani- I dunno...it might just be one of those personal peference things, but I didn't like the thinness, or how they left so much window cleaner behind, and they didn't seem to "scrub" as well as the other cotton or MF-for-glass towels that I usually use for the first pass. Hard to verbalize, but after using them for a while ("OK, I gotta give 'em a fair chance...") I finally decided that I wasn't seeing any upside to 'em- I was just working harder to get the same results.

For me, it ain't the towels. It's the technique. I take window cleaning towels from TOTL and fold them over a small squeegee I bought at Walmart, spray the cleaner on the towel, pressing firmly-do the perimeter-then the bulk, then go over it with a MF and not squeege. This is the only way I don't miss spots. The squeegee allows firm, evenly applied pressure that I can't replicate by hand and allows me to get into tight places with my towels. Man, you should see the dirt that comes off this way too. My window towels never got this dirty before I started using them wrapped around the squeegee!

This is a great tip. When doing commercial glass and large panels, there's just no way to do it without a squeegee. I'll have to try this with a MF for auto glass.

I know of a few professional glass companies that use the surgical towels, however, they rarely touch glass as the squeegees do the work.

I just use a Costco MF, and QD inside and out. Never had a streaking problem and they look great.

You use the yellow Costco mf's on your windows? They are the worst towels as lint goes.
