Ultima Paint Guard Plus vs. Opti-Seal

Has anyone tried both products to compare? I am thinking of picking up a WOWA sealant and optimum does have a history of impressing me, but my question is, to those of you who own both is the ultima worth the extra cost vs opti-seal?

I'm curious as well... I will say this: Judging from the photos I've seen I believe UPGP offers better reflective/gloss qualities. But good enough to justify the hefty price increase? That'll be a difficult pill for me to swallow. But we'll see I suppose...

*FOR ME* the cost if justified just by the fact that I can get PGP to lay down and dry clear(on black) without having to go over it again. Something that I only managed to do once on a light car (gold) before selling it off to that same guy. I tried many times to make OS work for me and it just didn't. Could be me though.:)

So far, I've been more impressed with Ultima.

I don't doubt that anyone would be more impressed with Ultima. but is that incremental impressiveness worth the dramatic price increase?

Price isn't much of a concern for me, but testing is underway for durability. Hard to tell the difference gloss/slickness-wise thus far. Additionally, as Spoiledman mentioned, Ultima seems to dry much clearer w/o streaking.

Might be the same deal as Souveran. Yeah, it is amazing stuff but most people can't justify the price difference. I'll know soon enough though, I am some UPGP on the way and I already have OS on hand and have been using it regularly since late March.

What do you mean by gloss/slickness thus far? Doesn't it only take 12 hours to completely dry?

Just the type of comparison I wanted! I have the OS but want to get the Ultima line--Maybe! Ill listen up in this thread to see what all comes out of it.

Cant wait to hear what Scottwax has to say about the 2......

Initial slickness/gloss after 24 hours was pretty much the same for both (I.E. one wasn't any better than the other side by side). I'm currently testing them side by side for durability on one panel.

Hands down for me on the Ultima Paint Guard. I've used both and honestly I'm more impressed with Ultima than OptiSeal. Prepwork and everything was done the same, but results for me for some reason was better on the UPGP. As for durability It's tough to say cause I've only applied the UPGP and haven't tested that out yet.

I really would like to see half a car done with OS and the other with ultima (equal prep) with a line of blue tape down the middle that could then be removed.

If any of you ultima owners would do this next time you seal your car, I am sure a lot of people on here would love to see the results.

Tell you what, I am detailing my father in laws Chrysler Crossfire today and tomorrow. I will do a door half OS and half UPGP.

All the prep is done: Washed and clayed.

Im going to polish the car out with Menzerna SIP. Now question, do you want me to just use the UPGP or do you want me to do what Ultima tells us to do and use the UPPP and then the UPGP? You decided but you gotta let me know by around 7pm CDT.

The Ultima by far has better Slickness ,Depth And Gloss > I have used both .I Also use to use the Zaino on my Black Mercedes and Prepped as the instructions say with the ultima paint prep polish .It is simply amazing .Not even in the same league with looks. CS is a good product but for me Ultima is #1

Nice---do it like Ultima says! Use the paint prep and then the Paint gaurd. What about half/half the hood as we might be able to get a better view--dunno. Cant wait to see the results and hear what you have to say.

Pictures of course:kewlpics

Your choice, I dont think the ultima would have bonding problems over preshly polished paint. I certainly hope that I can use ultima after my normal prep work and not be forced to use their prep after mine.

But if you think you need to use the UPPP for good bonding, then try it out, your products. I am just interested in the results, because we all tend to convince ourselves that the more expensive products are better from time to time. Like how when I tried some vintage on my hood (friend's jar) I used HD-Cleanse after I prepped, only because I did not want to interfere with the product's bonding, but then again it may have been overkill.

How long does OS last?

IME, at 2 months Opti-Seal was holding up decently. It was on two separate cars and each seemed to be doing well, but at the 2 month mark I re-detailed one and topped another. Beading was decent, slickness was average, and it looked alright. This was with no QD or any booster, just washes with Duragloss or Megs and dryed.
