Totally confused about Duragloss....

The AW is a good product, but I wouldnt recommend using it as a stand alone. Great for a quick enhancement, and maintaining your base though.

Seems like we always disagree (which is fine). :) I have no problem using AW as a standalone. Lasts as long, or longer, than some true sealants out there. I think if one adds more AW after every wash (or once a month to ensure 100% strength on the paint), you will have plenty of protection. I've found AW to be very resistant to grime and dirt. I can see where some may only want to use it as a 'booster" but I think it is far more capable than just being a boost...

Regards,

Mike

Is it just me or is Duragloss as complex a system as Zaino?

Its not complex at all . Just use the 105 on a nice car . On a bad car you will have to buff it out . 601 is not needed, 101 has a better cleaner. If the car is clean you wont need the 101. I myself like it for less then perfect cars. AW is only used as a booster wax for your car wash customers that want something extra.

I have to agree with Mike about AW as a "stand alone". For the past 12 months my wifes truck would get just a wash every week or so and a coat of AW about every 6 weeks (no prepping what-so-ever). It's a truck and is just too much of a pain to go through the whole process (plus my car gets priority :grinno: ) and I just don't have time to be completely compulsive about two vehicles.

IMO her truck always looks great and she gets many compliments. It's outside 24/7 and will hold the beeding and waxed look for about 6 weeks with just AW. Not to mention the AW makes it a breeze to wash, the dirt glides right off. It might take me 5 minutes (max) to WOWO a coat of AW on her truck.

Although...last weekend my car was in the shop, so I needed something to do. So her truck got the works.

clayed

Menz 106

KAIO

and one coat of DG 105

Below is another thread where I posted pics after the above process...:)

I couldn't agree with you more, except I have more than 2 vehicles to take care of so I'm even lazier. :)

As far as DG being confusing, I have to agree with Patrick about their product names/numbers. Heck, even the numbers change on the same product, depending on the size like 901 and 902. It doesn't help that people just list the numbers either. I have plenty of DG products and even I couldn't tell you most of the products by its number.

Allright class, that's it! There is going to be an exam Monday morning and you must know *every* Duragloss product by its number, including the gallon sizes and products with multiple numbers. This also includes DG apparel! Yes, the shirts even have numbers (#1212)! If you fail, you must send all of your DG stash to...me. :D

I couldn't agree more with you guys also, and that's one reason I really like DG. I used to have nothing but time to detail to my hearts content to the point of maintaining a show stopping finish. Move forward many years, with many more commitments, and I have almost no time to detail my car, much less the family cars. DG products work, period, and are very easy for me to come by locally. They are extremely easy to use and give results that I want without a zillion steps or 3 days (whichever comes first) to accomplish my goals, which is good protection first, and nice shine second.

I think Xmas is going to come early for you this year then cuz I know I'm not the only one that's going to fail! LOL

And thats really the bottom line Mike, agreed???

Yes sir!! Absolutely agreed! :hifive:

Actually, I think I'm going to take off work early and go wash the car and go have fun with a few DG products.

I stopped by Carquest today and bought 111 and 501 (they didn't have 105). I have some questions:

The 8 ounce bottle of 111 says it is enough for 2 full sized cars. Does it really take half a bottle for a car? Do you put it on thick?

Should I apply the 501 before the 111, or does each work well as a stand alone product, or better as a pair?

I have probably done 5 cars with my current opened 111........and have enough for a couple more! I dont really see a reason to use both. If both products are needed, then they really must not be that good ???

Does any of the DG stuff have any filling properties ? I have marring marks , only visible in certain lights. Would 111 help over the 105 ?

I was going to switch to a different product line , but I really like the way my truck looks with DG so I'll stick with it.

THat was my concern.

Coming from other sealants, using a dime sized drop per panel, I was shocked to read that, and in turn, the difficulty on getting the DG111 to spread in comparison. I was using 5 times as much.

It just seems I use to much. I tried it with a damp foam applicator, and my favorite "silky" ribbed applicator pad that works so well with 4*.

Hmm, I applied just *one* coat of 105 Friday afternoon and it sure makes my red pop and sparkle, much like Zaino did. Of course, it doesn't look like the thousand coats of Zaino that I used to apply, but with only 1 coat, I think it looks very nice. But, looks are secondary anyway...I use it not only because it looks good to me, but because it lasts as long and protects just as well as Zaino for me. That, I would say, is impressive enough, not to mention it is a fraction of the cost. As always different strokes... I was completely underwhelmed with ClearSeal, so I guess it's all in what the user wants/needs...and expects.

What didn't you like about it? Just curious...did you try it with AW?

I used 105 on my wife's van a couple of months ago, which rarely gets washed or QD and it still feels nice and glossy and protected. 105 holds up well and while it may not provide the ultimate sparkle in my mind it certainly has a home in my arsenal.

On my black Benz I've found that I get a bit more reflectivity out of optiseal or FMJ, but using 105 as a solid base and with periodic AW touch ups (which does give that really bright shiny look IMO) is a very easy and inexpensive alternative that lasts and lasts.

FS goes very far in comparison to the DG sealants. Well compared to anything it goes a long way. Its still my favored sealant.....

Hi. For my 350Z White with light swirls. Are these steps correct and in order?

1. Wash, Duragloss 901 CWC (Car Wash Concentrate)

2. Clay

3. Duragloss 671 SMR (Swirl Mark Remover) With DA machine + white pad ?

4. Duragloss 601 PBA (Polish Bonding Agent)

5. Duragloss 105 TPP (Total Performance Polish)

6. Duragloss AW (Aquawax)

Or should I replace step#3 with other products such as Menzerna IP ? This will be my first-time detailing.

Thanks!

Slowpork

Found it.

"Ribbed Silky Thing" that I described earlier is the yellow pad in this Turtle Wax pack.

It works great to apply sealants.

I don't know what the rest of the pads are good for, but that's all I got.
