Totally confused about Duragloss....

How would the 101 followed by the 111 be? I have never used anything but the AW from that line up. I love the AW by the way. My store did not have the 105. They said they could not get me a bottle until Tuesday. That was at my local Car Quest. Does anyone know if any other stores cary the DG line up? I am really just looking for the 105! I have a car on Saturday to do and would love to try out either using the 101 followed with the 111 if that is okay. Or I would use the 101 followed by the 105 if I can find it by then.

The 101+111 combo will work just fine and give good protection/shine, however I personally think 105 has a much richer, deeper, and wetter shine than 111, plus 105 outlasts the 111 by a couple months IME. 111 looks ok, but tends to look kinda silvery and one dimensional on paint. It is based from older sealant formulations. 105 is much newer sealant formula and I'd look for it if you can. If not, using 101+111 will certainly work, and I'd follow it up with AW for a bit of deeper, wetter gloss.

CarQuest carries DG of course, but you might also find it at NAPA auto.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had one Car Quest tell me they could order it and another say they couldn't as it isn't in their system. The price I was quoted by the one Car Quest wasn't any better than some of the suppliers here on Autopia and would take just as long to get so I ordered mine from Patrick at Excel Detail and like always got great service. If I can't find it local then I will always give my little business I do to guys like Excel Detail and Danase as they provide great support and information to this forum along with top notch service to customers.

Alright, now I'm even more confused. How similar are the 601 and the 101? Is the 601 a cleaner and the 101 an AIO? Can you use the 101 as a standalone? You use one or the other as a prerequisite for 105/111?

Yep, the 601 is a precleaner/surface prep and bonding agent and the 101 is an AIO. Think of 601 being similar to Zaino's Z1 and 101 being similar (in function, not performance) to ZAIO or KAIO. You can certainly use 101 as a standalone, although I usually discourage it, as it lacks long-term durability and protection. You can use 601 before any of the sealants (101, 111, or 105). 601 and 101 are not similar at all really. 601's primary function is for greater polish bonding and slight surface cleaning.

Yeah, absolutely, if your paint needs a little more cleaning power before you lay down the pure sealant (111 or 105). 601 is supposed to strengthen the bond with the sealants to further increase durability and enhance gloss slightly and also does a little cleaning, but its cleaning power is significantly less than 101, IMO/IME.

I would say yes. That is what i just did. Today I just picked up the 101 and the 111. Only reason for the 111 is because they did not have the 105 in stock. They would not have it till Tuesday and I wanted to try this line out. So I had them transfer it to my local store. So at least I will get it next week. Plus I have a car to due on Saturday and want to try this lin-up out.

altez,

Yes, that combo sounds fine to me. The 101 as the first step will clean the paint up nicely. Following with PBA will increase the bond with 105 and enhance durability and gloss slightly. Remember that PBA is not buffed off the paint. You apply a *very* thin layer of PBA and then apply 105 right over top, kinda like an epoxy (A+B). With 2 products on the paint, drying time can be increased, which is why it's important to do very thin coats of PBA and 105 together. If you don't need greater durability, you could skip PBA... IME, 105 lasts ~ 5-6 months on its own, so it's up to you on the PBA.

Hope this helps!

So if I was going to buy one or the other I could just get the 101 and use that before 111 or 105?

Setec..if you can get the 501 marine polish..get that instead of the 101.....its way better cleaning and also more durable...DG said it has the durability of 105 but much more cleaners...it has no fruity smell..just a chemical smell...it is very slick to reduce water scum lines....and also has a salt inhibitor in it....DG said it would work fine alone or as a base for 105....I believe 501 is 105 with 10 times the cleaner...I mean this stuff cleans paint...after claying...polishing with Menz....I used the 501 after a wash to get the menz dust off...and my pad was black...it deep cleans,,,

here is 501 used with a white pad on a PC on 3.....

here is 501 done by hand...it was hot so I did it quicker by hand...lol

this is after a polishing ...but it shows what the gloss and depth is of the 501....its a very interesting product....

my truck still has 501 on since July....and still looks great and beading great..this winter I will do 501 and 105 as a topper....

Oh..I tried Ultima paint sealant over it on the tail gate..looks great....

So...the 101 will not give the "PBA" action, so in that regard it's not like Z-AIO in activating the sealant? So if I polish with something that may leave residue, will the 601 clean that, or I need to 101 or IPA wipe first before the 601 (for ideal bonding, of course)? Sheesh, and I thought Zaino was complicated! :o

AFAIK, neither 101 nor ZAIO have the same type of activator or bonding agents that would be found in Z1 or PBA (for each respective system). Both 101 and ZAIO lay down a good basic sealant foundation for application of their pure sealants, and they are both "cleaner sealants" in simplistic terms, which makes me see them as identical types of products. At least, that's how I see it...

If you polish and have residue, the 601 will probably take care of it sufficiently. It does have light surface cleaners to remove old wax and grime residues. I would think using 101 to clean up residues would be overkill.

HTH!

According to the Z website:

"Does Z-AIO replace Z-1?

Yes. While there are differences between each product, Z-AIO adds many more benefits, thus retiring Z-1."

Although that doesn't really say so, I thought the zealots told us that Z-AIO provided the activation of the Z-polish in the same way as Z-1 or ZFX. I'm not sure the 601 would clean off polish residue if you don't buff it off before applying the polish. This stuff is so cheap I'd probably just buy all of them...of course, I shouldn't buy any of them cuz I have enough stuff already to do a hundred cars...

I just picked up more 111.

It doesnt look or smell, or come in the same bottle as the last one I had.

Have they changed things? This bottle is thin, clear, tinged like mint Crest toothpaste, and kinda smells like it.

I'm currently testing 4Star Sealant v. 111 on crappy Subaru paint.

Scott, its DG's nomenclature which throws everyone off...........

I agree, they need to do a better job of describing there products and the proper order for use. It's really a pretty simple product line but they don't seem to want to make it that way. Good products through and really like the AW allot and as you may remember I just got some 105 from you that I've only experimented with a little bit.
