Today's Detail - VM, RMG, UPP on Black.

The VM does contain wax so really a normal polish would be better before RMG. The VM is a mild polish hence I used that first the clean up the paint before using the RMG which seems to be a true glaze with no cut.

The application of the RMG added more gloss and depth to the VM, and will fill defects rather than remove.

I have just applied another coat of UPP, still no sun to she the metallic and rain now forecast for the weekend, damn, in the garage she will stay.

Carl - I have used both WG and EX over RMG and then topped with Souveran. The WG will give a more Glossy look ( not unlike the UPP in the pictures but slighty deeper), the EX more of more of a deeper look still with softer glow, but tends to mute the Metallic in my paint.

Looks blooming great Rich, Craig sold me some 4 star detail spray but as I haven't yet used UP all over one of my cars (omly other peoples) I haven't had a chance to use it!

I too use cheap shampoo for wells and pre detail washes after Craig recommended me a £2 for 5 litres B&Q wash'n'wax!

Absolutely magnificent! I would not have thought to use the VM before the RMG. I have been thinking about buying some of the RMG after seeing it in action here and your post has sold me on getting some. I apply my UPP in 3 thin coats, 24 hrs apart, of course, on silver metallic and have no diminution of the flake...it's actually enhanced, IMO. I follow with 2 coats of Natty's in the spit shine technique with very cold distilled water. I read a post not too long ago from someone that spit shined with refrigerated S&G. I going to try that with the VM/RMG/UPP. I did not notice and loss of clarity with the Natty's and I can't imagine you would have that problem with Souveran. The only thing I'm wondering about Souvie on your Clio is how it would make it anymore spectacular than you have already acheived. Excellent work!

Can I ask what the 'spit shine' method is please?
Glad to answer, Robdon. I am not swift enough with computers to do the cut and paste of links within Autopia.org, however, if you type spitshine method into the search function you will come across an excellent post by NickT called spitshine method revisited as well as posts from other describing their experiences with this technique. The fine mist sprayer discussed in the post can be easily and cheaply acheived with a four oz. little pump spray that they sell at container or craft stores. It doen't need anything fancy. What I was talking about was substituting the chilled distilled water with chilled Poorboy's Spray and Gloss. I've done it with water and very much liked the result. I don't know how spendy it is to obtain S&G in the UK, but if it's reasonable, get some. You can use it on nearly everything on the exterior of the car and it is addicting!

Spritz some dionized water, QD or even a product like Optimum Car Wax on the paint, apply a paste wax directly over it and then remove (as directed by the paste wax directions). Seems to make the paint slicker and add wetness.

A few pics from yesterday not the greatest due to dull weather conditions.

Another Coat of UPP

A coat of Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber to the tyres.
