Thoughts on LSP following Presta workout

OK, folks, here's the contact info for the guy in Milford (MA):

B & T Auto Body Supply

134 S Main St

Milford, MA 01757

Phone: (508) 473-6470

His name is Bob... a little grumpy, but a decent guy once you make acquaintance. He seems to be able to order any Presta product. He can certainly get the stuff we'd want. He's also a big 3M and Meguiar's re-seller. He seems to be able to get any of the oddball Meg's products you've never heard of. His prices are good. He's located on Rt140 just south of the Milford Hospital. I suspect he's been there for years judging the appearance of his shop. :D

Maybe Ryan can post the contact info for his people up on the North Shore/sNH area and pricing for these various components.

I know Ranney has a few of the Presta polishes...don't know about the pads.

:waxing: Cheers!

Don Kennet Auto Body Supply In Lowell, Mass has all the pads and polishes in stock.

Lowell, MA.

The double sided pads are like $22. He also has the classic edge velcro too.

Great post Tom! On those MB's you will need the black wool pad.

I wish I lived closer by then I would come over and give you a hand.

Funny part is today I found an old bottle of Presta Chroma 2000 in my old garage. They don't even make it anymore. The 1500 is better anyway.

Tommorow I might be doing a 97 Black Vette that a body shop hacked and I will take some pics of the process as I am doing it so you can get a better idea on how I do it.

Thank YOU. You're the one that got us started on all of this ;)

Which polish will you use with the black pad? UCC? or something else?

Have you seen Presta's EuroCut polish? I was looking at their website early this AM and noticed it. It looks like an

entirely different "system": http://www.malcopro.com/prestatech/1330.pdf

Ya that's for heavy duty work. It's messy..very messy, but works perfect. I used it years ago on a boat and a kids Conquest TSI red. I had a small bottle years back. It's made for super hard surfaces and requires lots of water and you will be covered. I was a mess, but the boat and car were so beyond incredible. I have not used the g mop and I have no idea what it looks like. All the presta can be used with water as an addative cut to increase gloss and cut.

your welcome Tom. I have tried a lot of compounds and polishes via foam and wool. Wool with 1500 is a very hard one to beat and is my starting point on most of my details. The depth, gloss, clarity, and smoothness is unmatched.

A final polish/foam over this step is spectacular.

Great post Tom,

I don't know exactly when must I use the Chroma 1500. As I read, it is a cleaner, not a polish, it doesn't have abrassives. I thought that it will eat oxidation very good and I planned to use it in very oxidized cars.

Why did you use 1500 after UCCL (with abrassives) and before Swirl remover (with abrassives) Tom? I didn't understand this step.

I have to try some SMR, but the shipping is expensive...

The #1500 polish does have the ability to do some correction. It would be used after UCCL. UCCL is a strong cleaner...you can feel it when you rub it on your fingers.

As noted above, you might not need UCCL. It's a function of the condition of the surface you're working on.

It's fair to say the #1500 polish is "universal". It will satisfy a broad number of users. :)

I wasn't overly excited about the SMR. I think I'd skip that one if you already have a comparable product.

Then, you clasify the 1500 as a final polish?

Close to it. I believe Rydawg would recommend one more step such as a swirl mark remover or other fine polish prior to the last step sealant/wax. FWIW, I thought the paint looked fantastic following the #1500. I'm not certain I could notice any improvement following the SMRs I used.

The 1500 polish is a strong chemical cleaner which was designed for wool pads. It works pretty much pad dependent and is as stron as the wool pad used. It's got some very good lubricating that self disolves and works wonders. It's pretty much there most standard product.

The swirl remover is good too on a wool and works great on black. I'll have some pics of a vette I did today. It was black and a bitsh! :furious:

For final finish I always use 106ff or zpc.

Thanks my friends, I'll use the 1500 on a Mitsubishi Eclipse very oxidized next month and I'll upload some pics.

Maybe it will work very good in oxidized headlights, I'll give it a try.

On a foam pad with the PC, right?

Have you used the SMR on a wool pad? It looks like the blue pad is the finest and then they transition to foam (within their product range).

Thx.

I use the Swirl remover on wool all the time to correct. It's stronger than they say it is.

You could finish out with one of these also. The swirl remover will finish much nicer on darker colors and will be more noticable.

I will use the smr on a blue edge foam for easy jobs.

OK, thanks for the tip, Ryan. (I didn't try it with wool - - I will do so next time I have all the gear out.) I guess this is why we spend the big $$ to get the double-sided pads :)
