The time has come!

Eh well, I think I made my post count jump like 60 posts with this thread. I'm such a post whore. :(

Update: Noone sells a damned thing for my 4.0 besides intakes or mufflers!

All I'm finding are things for either the SC300, or the GS/LS400.

Assuming the engines in all of the non VVT-i engine are the same, I can only find basic exhausts and intakes. I think what might happen is we'll have the local speed shop custom bend us a new exhaust. The stock one is extremely restrictive, and I imagine there are a few ponies to be had with a new one.

why in the world would you want that thing go faster?

The moment you modify it the moment you start messing it up.

It won't be anytime soon. It might be a graduation gift or something. Eventually things get boring. You modded your car ;)

None of it will be w/o parent's permission.

At your age that is plenty of HP for you.

Yes it is. I very pleased with the car as it is. Truthfully, if we do go for any modifications, it'll be suspension. The other night Dad was seriously pushing the car through turns and off ramps. He said it was all over the place, and my Mom's old 300M handled better.

Then there's my Dad's Jeep, that's about to have 4k dropped on it in the next few weeks to make it what he wants.

I need a decent argument to convince him that a safe auto-x track is educational, as it teaches me to control my own vehicle, and it's no worse than him going on trail rides in his Jeep. He's not buying it.

You can't just jump into autocross without having experience with the very situations you experience in autocross. Take a car control course that includes time in autocross.

Of course :)

I'll have a few defensive driving classes under my belt for insurance and just basic driving kowledge. I assume I'll be booked with all kinds of driving classes to lower what will be an insane insurance cost. I'm not even going to be registered on the Lexus, I'll be on the 350.

I had read somewhere that there was a family who wouldn't let their children drive on the street by themselves until they had successfully completed an auto-x course. This can be good, but the kid might get used to driving the car harder than necessary in normal conditions.

You only get one discount for a driving course, be it driver's ed (a joke) or a true car control course.

Autocross is great to put into use what you learn in car control but it can be difficult to separate driving on a closed course and driving on public roads. Since my course, I constantly think about what I need to do to take a turn or curve at as high of a speed as possible while maintaining control (my course included time on autocross after successfully completing the braking, slalom, skid pad, paper clip, single lane change, etc.). Obviously you can't/shouldn't do that on public roads but I DO think it can be a benefit as you're constantly looking for the escape or route and contemplating your steering input, braking, gas, etc.

Imagine the shape of a paper clip (hence the name). The goal is to go around the course as quick as possible while maintaining control. It is very easy to oversteer or understeer the car, especially considering the course is wet. All electronic traction systems are turned off.

Odd sex position? What were you saying last night about perversion?

He's 15, what do you expect. ................................ :p

Well, since I don't have the time to read through this whole thread, could you just post what it is. And shame on you for not buying your own car.:down

There is nothing wrong with parents buying their kid a car as long as the kid does not expect it and the car is taken care of (i.e., not abused, well maintained).

TW- What do you expect, he's 16 :D

My parents bought me a brand new $35,000 Explorer when I turned 16, and I think I turned out allright. Owned my own business since Sophomore year in college...

I'm still Jenny from the block ;)

Buick guy-

Why?

It's a gift. I'm grateful to have it, and in my family my parents intended on buying my sister and I cars since we weere born.

However, I will be putting money towards this summer.

TW- that was a reference to the perversion joke the other night. ;)

It was sarcasim, which I thought the winky smilie was imposing, but I guess you didn't get it. I had a little help from my parents too.d

:D, anyways, I'm going for a cruise. Also, you still haven't told me what kind of car you got! And if you get a used FX for you first car, I'll be very upset :( You know why :P

Nope, I got a NEW FX45.

Black with chrome wheels. Uber sexy. Black leather interior. The only thing it didn't come with was the DVD entertainment system.

;)

Actually, it's a 1995 Lexus SC400 with 40k on the clock :D
