The Painful Before and After's

sQuashed,

Too bad about your car being wrecked, but if an idiot stole my car and drove the crap out of it, i 'd either hope that i never find it or that it was totally wrecked. I wouldn't want it back.

The Mazda 6 is a nice car and pretty fast in the Speed edition.

The 2005 Volvo S40 is also a hot and fast car.

Shopping for cars is fun...enjoy and good luck with it !

Thanks Bob, you are right. Its probably a blessing of sorts that it is totaled. And thanks for the suggestions too.Ive always looked twice at those S40's on the Highway.

Thank you too Jay !! 400 hp huh? Thats not toning down !!! lol

The dealer gave me an offer of $27,400 for a new 04 GTO. So thats an option too. The only downfall is its black. Im tired of Black.

And it looks like a big Cavalier.....

I'd go with a silver exterior/black interior combo on whatever you get if you want something easy to keep clean. Silver looks pretty good even when dirty and black interiors hide stains very well. ;)

BTW, the Accord V6 coupe with a 6 speed runs mid 14s at 99mph according to Motor Trend. Not as quick as a Camaro but certainly pretty stout for a 3 liter V6. :xyxthumbs

Damn Gary...I don't know what to say other than I am truly sorry for the loss. Of all the "Pep Boy's specials", hacked up and gawdy f-bod's that I see and DESERVE a fiery death...your's was just too pretty and classy to end up that way (nevermind that is was an 8,000 mile hard top SS!!).

By the sound of your suggested cars it sounds like you are going to turn the "volume" way down on the next one. I think a V-6, 6 speed Accord Coupe might be a good replacement in that regard. Very low key, Honda reliability but with 240-hp and a slick shifting manual.

You are not being pushy at all. I thank you for the ideas,in fact the Passat was a word that my friends and I passed around yesterday. Thank You for the suggestion.

I'd really look over the interior though, all the VWs I've done have real thin, easy to stain carpeting.

Mike-I guess they are right about how great minds think alike! ;)

I looked at the new Honda Accords and then the Mazda 6. They are both kinda cool little cars I suppose..

Heh heh, since I never hesitate to voice my opinions about what cars to look at/avoid :o here I go again:

Why look at FWD cars when you had a great RWD F-body? Most people have a definite preference for front or rear wheel drive with AWD somewhere in between depending on the car.

I've romped on some Mazda 6s (security/pursuit training on a tight track designed for karting) and I'd *never* get one of those. Don't mean to slam anybody's ride, but the 6s didn't have good throttle response (more like *no* response coming out of hard corners), had too much "FWD character", and started sheding body parts too easily. I sorta like Mazdas and was surprised at how much I disliked the 6, as did all my classmates.

If you really want to get something toned down see if you can still find a VW R32 Golf. The AWD is nice and they have decent "real world driving" torque. The Japanese turbo-terrors and multi-valve-wonders just don't get it for me (I had a WRX and I've driven other such cars) since, like you, I was raised with big V-8s. If I were in your shoes I'd probably look at the new Mustang or just forget about being sensible and get another F-body.

There's always the 2006 Mazdaspeed 6...

2.3 turbo 274 hp 280 ft-lb

6spd manual

AWD with LSD rear

All specs from Mazda

Imagine the power they'd get with using the V6 as base for the turbo!

Accumulator is right about Mazda's mediocre throttle response. I have a V6 626 (unfortunately, an automatic with poorly spaced gearing...2-3 is especially poor...and a way too tight torque converter) and the throttle response is noticably weaker than my Accord had (90 w/header, cai, exhaust, pulleys) although once it gets going, the acceleration is definitely better.

The 5 speed 626's have better throttle response though and I'd hope the Mazda6 V6 with its additional 50 hp would be the same. Maybe not. :(

I like Anthony's R32 recommendation, it is a great looking car. Like I said earlier though, my only sticking point may be the quality of interior materials. In addition to the carpeting, VWs choice of plastics doesn't appeal to me.

The floor mats seem real flimsy and the carpeting was pretty thin in the New Beetles, Passats and Jettas I've detailed. Maybe the brand new ones have addressed this? Overall, they are great cars, I just don't particularly care for the interior materials but the layout is excellent.

Consumer Reports tends to really knock the electronics of VWs, and I have heard this from a couple of owners as well. I would not consider one because of the blah styling and the electronics issues. However, they seem to have really good engines and the much nicer diesels are kind of nice.

The GTO is pretty cheap because no one is buying them. I think they run around 23 or so for the 350 hp engine because people also know the 400 hp one is coming out. They are a sleeper with their mild styling, but they do look better than any Pontiac to come out in the past 10 years. Not an Aztek and no body cladding. Plus it has a real corvette engine and transmission.

Honda accords are very nice, and so are the mazda 6s.

Not the V6 Passat - that is their top pick in it's segment. Stiling is a personal issue. I love VW styling minus their SUV -including the Porsche Cayanne

when i was reading your intro, i was thinking "what kind of car does he have to be going that fast ??"

and then i scrolled down slowly and saw that gorgeous SS. i almost did not want to see the "after" shots but i looked anyways.

I am deaply sorry for your loss, especially being a fellow Camaro guy.

Hope all works out for you :xyxthumbs
