The Microfiber Towel Deathmatch

usdm

I'll figure it out....
I just received my orders of the Detail Paradise Monster Fluffies, and the Danase Phat.

All i can say is I am very impressed. In the past, I only used and swore by the

Plush towels offered by Poorboys, quite simply because I did not find any others that

were as nice and gentle on a paint surface. But now it looks like the PB towels may be

usurped. Only thing I have not figure out yet is which towel I like the most, the PB Plush,

the DP Monster, or the Phat.

Which is your favorite?

I like PB's mega plushes. They are some great towels. I recently got some Danase PHAT towels. They are the most unbelieveable thick microfiber towels i've ever seen. I'm seriously considering ordering alot more of them but i've got so many PB's megaplushes. I'll end up ordering more of the PHAT towels though. They are just incredible.

You guys got it all wrong. You have to look at all the qualities of a towel to make it perfect for detailing. The best all around towels with quality are CG's Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies : CHEMICAL GUYS WHOLESALE AUTO DETAILING SUPPLIES CAR WASH PRODUCTS PROFESSIONAL CAR DETAIL SUPPLY FACTORY DIRECT They have a very plush side and a not quite as plush side for removing wax. They are thirsty and will suck up the water also!!!! THERE THE BEST!!! Don't buy them because I want to make sure there still in stock when I order.

Ive used the Meguiars MF's for some time now along with their old and new terry towels. Ive never had any problems with swirls or such. :2thumbs:

usdm- When it comes to ultra-thick MFs I've only used the Monster Fluffy. How does it differ from the Danase Phat?

That's assuming you want to use the not-so-plush side for stuff like LSP removal ;) I myself always use the plush side for everything; if I want a different texture/nap I use my suede-style MFs. Guess it's just me, but I've never had a problem buffing LSPs with plush MFs, though I do prefer the suede-style ones for KSG, especially in bonnet form.

But anyhoo...the ultra-thick MFs have their place as do the other types. I find I'm appreciating the differences between my various MFs and finding specific ones I like for specific jobs. That's different from my previous approach where I pretty much used my YoSteve MFs for everything (back then I had a greater appreciation for all-around/multi-purpose MFs).

You and I love waxes. I tend to over apply (hate to admitt it) wax. When I use a very plush MF (as monster) it does not get all the wax off. But a little bit of texture on one side of CG's towels is perfect for get that little extra wax that the plush misses. Thats for me. I have even tried to order straight from the manufactures (2 one in China one in Japan) and ask them to send me a sample of there best MF towel and the quality failed badly.

Just got in an order of CG Elite Ultra Plush and Elite Gold, and although I haven't used yet, I'm very impressed with the quality of the towels.

OK, I can see how thicker applications than mine (and that's pretty much like saying "remotely normal applications" :D ) could benefit from a bit more texture than my Monster Fluffy has.

And for that matter, I've never even tried using the Monster for LSP removal, having reserved it for QDing works-in-progress that've been sitting around the garage. I was thinking about the plush side of my YoSteve/Excel/PakShack ones, and they have more bite than the super-plush types. At some point even *I* might find I need something less plush to get LSPs off.

Yes, Pinnacle gives you a MF towel with Souveran. It is very thin has a lot of bite but it is to much for me. Kinda scary feeling what if a couple grains of sand got in this towel feeling.

MDRX8, I had about 12 of those Pinnacle Indigo towels. Sold them to ZoranC iirc. They're a great polishing towel, but I didnt use them all that much. I felt the same way you did. To thin for my taste.

Those sound like one of my suede-style ones. It was called "The Maxx" and was, IIRC, sold by CMA. Dark blue, unstitched edges, got 'em in both towel and bonnet forms..no longer being sold as best I can tell. I wonder if it's the same one :nixweiss

I do like these for sealants (used one just yesterday to buff UPP off the S8 in spots the Cyclo couldn't reach) but I know what you mean about the no margin for error with regard to abrasive contamination.

Man is COBRA just outdated now ?

Thats all iv used to this point - super plush, miracle, glass, indigo and guzzlers. theyv all held up very well, and are very soft.

Mickey C threw in a dragon fiber towel in a transaction, that was a very nice towel too.

Based on recent threads lately, it seems cobra isnt the in towel anymore.

I will halft to try some of these new towels that many of you seem to be ranting and raving about when I can muster up some free cash.

reguardless . . . some interesting oppinions here . . . thanks for the comments gang.

Do you have close up picture of one of your suede-style ones? I should be able to immediately tell you do they seem similar.

I've beem buying all my MF cloths from neat items.com-- Ultrafine Terry Microfiber | Micro Fiber Cloths and Towels Very high quality and free shipping. The Ultra Plush Detailing Cloths are excellent and less than $5.95 each if you buy more than one. They come with no tags attached.

The towels at the very bottom of the page look very servicable.

As for the CG towels, i dont have an opinion right now. I ordered their really chubby

towels, but I got something else. The towels I got have those black seams that are

actually thicker then the weave itself. Truth be told the weave for thsi particular

towel ws not even as plush as the weaves on the viking towels i occasionally pick

up OTC.

Ironically, I never really got into the really plush towels until it was recommended

to use with S&W. I cant really say i ever got the hang of S&W as a quick detailer since

my car is a perpetual dust magnet, had to go through way too many towels, and

still managed to introduce marring. But I found they were great for breaking up the

haze on waxes/ sealants. In fact, I keep a few on hand to clean my CDs, PC monitor,

and my eyglasses.

Back to the Phat Towels for a quick moment. As i look and feel the texture, I

am wondering how effective they will be with waxes and sealants. i can see them working

well with quick detailers and such since they seem just too soft. The Monsters look

and feel like they would work better for wax/ sealant removal. Any opinions on this?
