simple 1step, but a hammered S2000 worth looking at..

This S2000 came to me as a referral from a corvette client. I met with the owner to discuss the options. The owner didn't think the swirls were bad, but unfortunately, they were quite bad. Fortunately honda's paint is pretty soft as are their clears. This particular car was single stage paint suprisingly. We agreed on a 1 step correction, aiming for about 60% removal and followed by a couple coats of Zaino.

I began to work on it, and after about 1/2 hour of trying different combos, I found an aweome combo that got about 90% of the swirls out! Owner was very happy he opted for at least some correction after seeing the progress. The gloss after the paint correction and the Zaino was very nice and super smooth. After getting the pics off the camera, I noticed a kinda fog in the lower right of all the pics. Turns out I had a fingerprint on the lens. doh!

Process:

Exterior

-Foamed with Dawn

-Rinsed and Dawn wash

-Megs APC 4:1 on wheels/tires

-Daytona EZ detail brush

-EZ detail mini brush

-Swissvax Wheel brush

-Clayed with Z18 and Megs LT as lube

-Tires with Zaino Z16

Correction

-Megs 205 on white LC 5.5

LSP

-2 coats of Zaino Z5pro

-Zaino Z6

As always, questions/comments welcome! Thanks for reading!

I don't comment much on here but I had to tell you that what you did for that S2000 is beyond anything I have ever seem while being a member here. That paint was horrid and you make it more beautiful than it ever looked coming off the assembly line at Honda. Perfect!

Nice save! That thing was hammered (and it is a pretty new car!). The Honda paint on S2000s is very soft, so M205 does an awesome job correcting up. Did you use a PC or a rotary?

Nice work, Jeff! I actually love doing one-steppers... even more than full corrections. Especially here because I make more money with a 1-stepper and don't have to muck about with it for 2-3 days!

Thanks! I really wanted to do more to it, but it was hard enough getting the owner up to a 1 stage! lol. Thanks for the kind words :)

wow. great turnaround. so the 205/white was lsp ready?

Yeah it finished down great. The clarity was awesome. I tried an old favorite before this (Megs 80 on yellow megs pad) and it actually worked nice, but the 205/white had much more clarity with equal swirl removal. After 205/white, just an ISO wipedown and then Zaino. Thanks!

I can't remember the year, but it only had 34k miles on it. Suprisingly the car was single stage, but the bumpers and trunk were cleared. Maybe d00t can shed some light on that ;)

Oh and I used the PC for this one.

Awesome considering it was only a 1 step! The last shot is GREAT!

BTW... what camera were you using?

Thanks. I almost couldn't believe it on the first test spot with that combo. I did an ISO wipe like 6 times to make sure! LOL.

Just my little Nikon D40 with a stock lens and a tripod :)

Very nice write up on a great detail. You really improved the car's looks and value. :2thumbs:

Thanks Sludge :)

Thanks Jesse! I'm starting to enjoy 1-steppers more these days. Though most aren't worth posting up because of their simplicity... But I've been doing a ton lately, with an equal amount of happy customers :) Which in turn has made my phone ring off the hook when they tell their friends. Good times.

Great work! I always appreciate a nice and clean S2000 :)

I figured you'd like that one Aaron! Thank you. This was my first s2k, and I have to say I liked the car just a little beforehand.... but afterwards I kinda started to want one of my own lol. I see why you like em so much.

Very nice work. I love 205 for this sort of thing too. I have noticed it will do a little filling on it's own if you don't work it for a hilariously long time; but when you get the process right it really rocks (as you've shown us!).

i love s2k's! im going to be doing a one step on one coming up soon and im gonna use your same process! i always end up wanting one after working on one too! :)

Im going to order a sample size of 205 to practice with now because of this thread.

Is the LC white pad their least-abrasive pad? Ive got 105 and a wool and a coarser-foam pad and Ive got hologram action goin on.

If i can only get one pad to go with the 205 to make it ready for wax, would you say a white pad is the way to go?

Or a black Meguiars pad?

Thanks. The car looks great.

Was that rotary or DA? Using my G110, #205 does pretty decent correction for a milder polish but via rotary, wow!

That S2000 really turned out nice!

Yes I have to post and say that car looks SEXY after! And before it looked like a Miata!

Incredible turn-around, I don't know if you or the owner is happier with the turnaround, anyone that spends that long bringing a car back has to feel something for it!

Great write-up

Great polishing!

Beautiful wax.
