Popular products that didn't work out for you

That's amazing - clearkote products are outstanding to me

It's got heaps of cleaning ability, have used it to remove paint scuffs that usually only IP or similar polish would remove.

VM is second to none to repair stained or really dried out trim and rubber seals and by machine with edge blue or white pad on paint and glass is amazing

Chocolate moose (CMW) is great by machine and also great to remove nasty stains or marks on interior vinyl which I follow with optimum PP

Mothers back to black - gives a decent shine and has some cleaning ability but it doesn't last long at all

Klasse rocks - use SG in a spray bottle instead of the traditional way, VLRP has almost VM cleaning power on vinyl and plastics

Pinnacle bodywork shampoo - too higher PH level, way overpriced and no slickness

Over all the thousands of dollars I have spent on products, 98% of it has been damn well spent

Almost everything I have bought has been exceptional and very enjoyable to use

A product can only do it's magic if the person using it knows to get the best out of it

Each person's knowledge of products and their detailing skill level can make a difference in how a product works for them.

I believe very strongly in regular contact with product manufacturers

Steve at PB, Everett at CK, Rick Vaal at 4 star etc, the autogeek guys, david at optimum, david B at sonus/autopia etc

They know the products better than anyone else

I was having trouble last year using Autoglym bodyshop 01B polish and contacted my state's distributor who is just up the road from me and he helped me out with some great tips including the fact that all bodyshop autoglym polishes work best when together - 1st 03B, 2nd 02B and 3rd 01B

On odd occasions you cannot use a big variety of brands for complete paint machine buffing

So far I am over the moon with the products I have bought

My final piece of advice for everyone is to mix different brands of products together

What I've done

WG DGPS and 4 star UPP 50/50 works a treat

UPP provides good slickness but it doesn't stay slick for long but lasts longer overall than WG

WG provides the extra slickness and keeps the paint slicker for longer

1Z perls & Four Star ultimate shampoo 50/50

With warm water it can make slightly rough paint feel smooth, 1z conditions and adds protection , four star provides the suds and helps the wash stay sudsy on the surface for longer

Autoglym vinyl and rubber care, ck VM & Yellow moose, autogly bodyshop 07b vinyl and rubber cleaner/protectant, sonus tire gel, klasse VLRP and WG plastic sealant all mixed together equals a fantastic vinyl, plastic, leather and rubber oxidation remover, cleaner, enhancer and protectant that can restore badly faded surfaces by hand in seconds and durability is unreal

About 25ml of each

Sorry for the long post

When you get any product - test it on all surfaces to see what it does, most are multi purpose

JustinTRW,

for fine finish, I use Wenol red followed by Wenol blue. Red had some very mild abrasives while blue is purely chemical. Can make polished stainless look like chrome. Gives a show car shine to metals. Also had good results with Eagle One mag and aluminum polish. I use the Eagle One to polish my titanium bike. Very nice

Thanks very much. I will try to find some Wenol locally and if not, order with my next online purchase. I've been using Nevrdull to remove the soot from my exhaust tips, but it hasn't really restored the most brilliant shine.

Any luck with P21S multi-surface restorer? I have that locally. I probably have Eagle One locally too, but seems like the Wenol product really does the trick.

Was not impressed with...

NXT Interior Dressing - WAY too shiny / greasy. I actually called Meguiars as I thought I had possibly accidentally received a bottle full of tire dressing.

Souveran - Like others have said, for the price, Natty's kicks its bottom.

Wheel Sealant - This may be specific to my wheels, but it really dulled the polished (non-clear coated) wheels on the vette.

Nice topic, and I appreciate the way the subject is phrased; a product really can be right for one guy and not right for another.

What really baffles me is when some of the Pros here rave about a product and I don't get good results from it. #16 is a prime example ... you can't agrue the durability of the product, but as an LSP I never thought it added anything.

Some Pros here, e.g. Scottwax could get fantastic results with the cheapest OTC products and some finishes are so nice it wouldn't take much to get them to "pop".

I used VM + S100 on a bright red 2006 Solara last week and it looked good, but it looked pretty darn good just after washing it. Using a $5.99 one step from Mothers or Meg's would have looked just fine.

SG is VERY difficult to remove for me, but it sure protects for a long time. When they say to apply in thin coats, they REALLY mean in thin coats! I think that is where most people make a mistake including me.

3M imperial hand glaze is hard to remove.

KSG is hard to remove and do not like the look on black car.

Sonux SFX1 and SFX2 hard to work with rotary, specially RPM over 1000.

PB QD+ take too much time to use comparing with other qd.

P21s isn't any better than natty. Overprice.

SVR - you've used VM on door seals? I saw that it's listed on the bottle as one of the uses, but I've always loved Gummipflege for that. Personally, I don't think anything could work better than Gummipflege on door seals, but I'll have to give VM a shot.

Meg's NXT liquid wax- horrible durability (carnauba's last longer)

WheelWax- separated into oil and globs after 2-3 months (went into trash)

3M Imperial Hand Glaze- streaks like crazy

Plexus- didn't remove scratches on hard plastic and haven't really found a need or use for it

JustinTRW,

The Wenol polishes are not good at smoothing out rough metal. They don't have enough cutting ability. Once metal is in the ballpark, the Wenol pair kicks it up a notch or two. Never used the P21S MSR. I like the Eagle One polish. It may be enough. Wenol improves on it but it is hardly noticeable. Only on close inspection do you see Wenol's improvements on EO. Why not try EO first before getting the Wenol pair. Wenol is kinda expensive.

Carnauba Moose or Meguiars #26 would look better over red than S100, IMO.

Megs goldclass- blink and its gone

Megs #9- removes no scratches, just fills them in with fillers

3m smr- same as above

Entire Megs gold class line except for the car wash

1Z polishes- I hate that it has waxes in it.

UPP- the slickness goes away after 2 weeks

Zaino Z2-Z5- Dont like the plastic look to it.

Mothers back to black

Black again

Half the products on this forum is over-hyped (now let the flaming begin :) )

Naw, no flaming here. We get carried away sometimes, but this has been very informative. There's no reason to flame at all. And half might be a bit conservative.

I agree with just about everything except the UPP comment. Yes slickness does decrease after the first wash, but after that it stays pretty decent. It was still decently slick at 2 months before I put on another coat. Last night I QEW'd and QD'd my car with QS and it feels just as slick as an unwashed coat of UPP. QS really brings back the slickness to UPP that we all love.

UPP is very durable as a stand alone sealant, despite a slight decrease in slickness over time, IMO.

IMO the slickness issue is overplayed-slickness is nice but has absolutely no bearing on whether a product looks great or protects

You are very right!

I do appreciate a product that can make my paint super slick to the touch. It is actually one of the reasons I enjoy detailing. I love gliding the back of my fingers across slick paint. Just one of the many fruits of labor after a great detail! But yes, a product may not be as slick but still very durable and nice looking.

Wow, looking at the how many replies this post has gotten you would think almost nothing worked for nobody :)

But actually I see alot of "helping" going on here too, like people asking how one used something they didn't like and maybe offering tips.

Which is good too cuz we all probaly still have the stuff we're posting about.

I'm going on the record too for saying that is was/is a good thread, esp the way it was worded :2thumbs:

Megs DACP as far as i'm concerned is a total waste of cash!! This is by no means anything but a very weak polish.

Did you use a PC or rotary? I find that is works GREAT with a rotary, better than anything else I have used for swirls.
