Mustang VS Camaro Poll :lever:

What’s your choice and why?

For me, it’s an easy choice…..The almighty Mustang. :hail:

Its power, styling and affordability are totally better (IMHO) than the Camaro. Not to mention the modding that is offered and can be done to make it both handle and accelerate better. I’ve had probably 20 or so Mustangs in my day (so far) ranging from mostly Fox bodies to Terminators. I’ve also had quite a few friends with Irocs, Z-28’s & SS’s, but I’ve yet to be impressed by one of them in any department. And the recent colors that GM has picked out are beyond horrible. :puke: Talking about the Inferno Orange, Aqua Blue and Synergy Green. Looking forward to seeing how the new ZL-1 will be, but as long as the GT500 will have 50 more HP it already seems who will still be ahead of the game.

:caked:

Noting I've had three F-bodies and never owned a Mustang.....

Mustang for me too. With both using the retro-styling, the Mustang looks less like it was, uhm....super-sized. The Camaro looks about 1.4X the size it oughta be when I see it in person.

And heh heh....[insert  about any performance diffs being meaningful on the street] If you're gonna track the car enough for that stuff to matter, I'd be all about how the driving dynamics do/don't work for you and that's not something where anybody else's opinion matters.

OK, just for the sake of saying it- I'd like to wring out one of those Shelby-ized six cylinder Mustangs. Bet I could spank a lot of huge-V8 cars without breaking a sweat doing it (says they guy who's current V8 Ford weighs *how* much?!? :o ).

One car I always wanted when they came out but the "flavor of the month" wife at the time got in the way.

1969 or even a 1970 Boss 302!

In it's day, the best "balanced, handling" car for the money.

Never been a fan of big blocks and that 302 kept the weight even on front and back.

That said, the Mustang I had at the time, a 67 289, T-10 4 speed, 9 rear end, with a modified locker, double shocks on the rear with a 15/16th rear sway bar, hem joint mounted, front A frames reposistioned 2 inches lower with cut down Hi-Po springs, Koni shocks, double shock tower brace and a 1 and a 1/4 in front swar bar, using brass bushing in place of rubber.

The heads were "stepped" on the intake ports, plus port relieved, 2 and 1/4" Chevy intake valves, only 9.5 compression, windage tray oil pan with modified oil pump, Ford Muscle Parts marine hydraulic cam with no pump liftes and HD valve springs, a Ford Muscle Parts med rise aluminum intake and Holley 660 Cathedral carb, tube headers.

It would dyno at 365 hp on pump ethyl gas.

It was the wife's daily driver and I raced it in SCCA A/Modified, taking the championship two years in a row.

I could run with the Boss's, but just didn't look as cool.

But, those were the days, my friend.

What I will say is this: having just spent a little over a month with an S197 Mustang in my shop (and doing more to it than simply detailing it) I wasn't particularly impressed with the car. The power from the basic 4.6 3V wasn't anything to write home about, and overall it didn't feel quite as solid as the Camaro going down the road.

That said, I do agree that the Camaro has its weak points in terms of styling and bulk.

I gotta go with the Camaro overall. Both have great years and bad years. I respect the Mustang's place in history and the muscle car era was definitely their time to shine. I love most cars from the late 60s, but with the exception of the shelbys I would prefer a Camaro from the time. Even today I prefer the Camaros. Just like the styling better.

The new Camaro just looks like a fat ricer... :flame: The whole "bringing back the retro" look is failing in the Challenger and Camaro for my tastes. They just look like blown up matchbox cars with cheap body panels.

I thought David Fermani was referring to new ones

But yeah, the Challenger is a bit super-sized looking too. I kinda forsee a new Charger in my future what with Crown Vics fading away, but I'm not really looking forward to "upgrading".

Ron Ketcham- With those suspension mods that mustang must've been utterly killer for the time! Were those dyno # at the wheels or at the crank? That's right around what my current 4.6 puts to the wheels.

"Flavor of the month wife" heh heh heh :chuckle:

One thing I didn't mention, it had used road grader blades welded and strapped to the box frame rails to stop flexing.

Allowed me to remove a lot of other weight from higher up in the car and still meet min. weight requirements of SCCA.

Any issues from stiffening the frame like that? I ask because a few guys stiffened Crown Vic frames ("stiffer is always better!") like that and it transfered the stresses to other areas and...well let's just say it didn't work out as well as they'd expected.

None, but different design.

Plus did those Crown Vic's have a roll bar set up?

That attaches down to the stiffened frame and keeps the stress loads where they need to be, more rubber on the track.

That makes sense about the rollbars helping. Bondurant used the rollbars in theirs and (apparently, AFAIK) no problems, but the cars that had issues did *not* have rollbars (at least the two I'm familiar with didn't).

I voted Camaro. Boy am I in the minority here! :)

I really don't know that much about these cars but the styling of the Camaro, while not perfect, just catches my eye more than the Mustang. The Mustangs, (don't hate me) just tend to look all the same to me and I never know what model or year I am looking at. Having said that, I sure have 'heard' some that sounded sweet!

I love both and would buy both. I only voted the Camaro because the styling appeals to me a little more than the current Mustang (I don't care for changes to the rear on the Mustang and the interior seem to plain). Still, both rock and I laugh at all the fan boys on forums when these debates come up. :)

I'll take a Vette or '09+ CTS-V over both. ;)

Oh, Brad, what do you know about such things.

You only drive and own Krautmobiles!

LOL!

Yes, I know. (Look at floor in embarassment.) But I should say that the one "Amerikun" car I owned was a 1968 Firebird Convertible. Red with a white top. 4-Speed Hurst shifter. It was a wonderful car. I loved it!

After that I just drifted with the wrong crowd. :)

Ahhh, yes, a Camaro with extra plastic bits attached.

LOL! (again)

LOL! Actually, that was pretty much pre-plastic. It had that lovely chrome nose. And a tachometer on the hood. (I thought that was cool at the time.)
