No love for the Charger or Challenger, David???
But to be honest, I really wanted a Mustang for my Mid Life Crisis Car. I was over ruled by the wife: "You have a wife and two young kids. NO WAY you'll be buying a two door car." So I got the Charger...three of them, actually. Started out with an '05 GoMango Daytona, traded that one in for an '07 yellow SuperBee, then traded that one in for an '08 B5 SuperBee. The Chargers sure don't have any retro styling to them like the 'stang and Challenger do.
The Mopars aren't as easily modded, either. They also suffer from weak non-forged pistons, so adding some flavor of forced induction requires swapping them out. Not nearly as many aftermarket companies supporting the Mopars, either.
But on the bright side, you don't see a ton of SRT-8 Chargers/Challengers on the road, either. Seems like you can't swing a dead Yugo without hitting a Mustang (or a Camaro) now.
Ralph Gilles is splitting off the SRT unit into it's own brand name. We're expecting him to do great things with the Mopar muscle division, including a factory supercharged version of the Charger, Challenger, and 300C starting in 2013. Speculation is that it'll still use the 6.4 liter Hemi. He'll have his work cut out for him to even keep up with (let alone exceed) the latest offerings from Ford and Chevy. Personally, I hope he does; it would be great to see the 2010-2020 decade as a throw back to the muscle car wars of Ford/Chevy/Chrysler of the '60's and '70's.
Even though I've turned in to a Mopar fan boy (guess I always like the underdog), I still love the Mustangs and Camaros. If it's American Muscle, I'm in.
