LOL! Actually, that was pretty much pre-plastic. It had that lovely chrome nose. And a tachometer on the hood. (I thought that was cool at the time.)

Still cool now!

No love for the Charger or Challenger, David??? ;)

But to be honest, I really wanted a Mustang for my Mid Life Crisis Car. I was over ruled by the wife: "You have a wife and two young kids. NO WAY you'll be buying a two door car." So I got the Charger...three of them, actually. Started out with an '05 GoMango Daytona, traded that one in for an '07 yellow SuperBee, then traded that one in for an '08 B5 SuperBee. The Chargers sure don't have any retro styling to them like the 'stang and Challenger do.

The Mopars aren't as easily modded, either. They also suffer from weak non-forged pistons, so adding some flavor of forced induction requires swapping them out. Not nearly as many aftermarket companies supporting the Mopars, either.

But on the bright side, you don't see a ton of SRT-8 Chargers/Challengers on the road, either. Seems like you can't swing a dead Yugo without hitting a Mustang (or a Camaro) now.

Ralph Gilles is splitting off the SRT unit into it's own brand name. We're expecting him to do great things with the Mopar muscle division, including a factory supercharged version of the Charger, Challenger, and 300C starting in 2013. Speculation is that it'll still use the 6.4 liter Hemi. He'll have his work cut out for him to even keep up with (let alone exceed) the latest offerings from Ford and Chevy. Personally, I hope he does; it would be great to see the 2010-2020 decade as a throw back to the muscle car wars of Ford/Chevy/Chrysler of the '60's and '70's.

Even though I've turned in to a Mopar fan boy (guess I always like the underdog), I still love the Mustangs and Camaros. If it's American Muscle, I'm in.

The new Camaro is "chunky and junky" looking to me. The fact that you can get one with steel wheels also sickens me. Only GM would be so cheap. I also remember an article about the build quality that compared the 'stang, Challenger, and Camaro and the Camaro had so many assembly line flaws it was laughable.

Ya know, the more I keep seeing Challengers with nice aftermarket wheels, the more they've grown on me. But, and that's a big but, the cars are huge and don't hold a chance in heck with keeping up with a new 5.0 Mustang.

Have you seen the new SRT8s with the 392 Hemi run? They're quicker than you might expect....

Interesting. I've seen (and heard from owners) the exact opposite about the new Camaro. If you can locate that article, it would be a good read.

IF (more like "when", I fear :( ) everybody switchs from Crown Vics to the Dodge Chargers, I'll probably (reluctantly) swap my CV for a police-package Charger and outfit it with the SRT-8's 392. Yeah yeah, it'll "better" but I doubt I'll like it as much :grinno:

I want an AstonMartin DB9S.

Don't want much, do I?

OK, if you buying Xmas presents will settle for a new Mustang Boss.

Grumpy

Shiny Lil Detlr- Well, hmm...the new Caprice 9C1 *does* look interesting, and I *was* a big fan of the older ones

Have to see how they test out in-service.

I think they're both too heavy for the track. I'd pick a mint C5 Z06 over either of them brand new right now for the purpose of a heavily modded track car.

Had to comment on that...I had my Mallett C5 built for that, real fantasy-fulfillment that I thought would be my coolest car ever....then found that it was downright frustrating to drive on the street; driving a great car at 4/10ths (which was still "into custody"-fast) was no fun at all :grinno: I don't miss that car one bit and I actually cover ground faster in the S8.

So I'm not sure that, in real life, the "better" C5 would be as enjoyable after all  Guess it's one of those subjective things, but I can't help thinking "gotta watch what you wish for" ;)

Just further proves the point that there's no such thing as a vehicle that can be good at everything. We both learned that from our mutual experiences with TBSS' as well. :o

If I could say just one thing, and I'll probably offend a lot of people here, but I tend to see more rusted out IROC-Zs parked next to mobile homes than 5.0s. Just sayin'.

Besides, the new 5.0s have been favorably compared to M3s ever since they came out. No one's ever made that claim about an SS that I can remember. :rofl

What a difficult question! I have to go with Camaro. In the UK the only way the general public tend to know of these cars are fast and furious/transformers or other generic car based films which is unfortunate because both are incredible cars!

Tough question.

Mustangs are a dime a dozen. I see several every time I drive down the road. So they are nothing special to me, just like civics and accords.

Now the 302 Leguna Seca track package tempted me since its an American car that can actually do something other than drive straight. But after seeing it in person I threw up. Its said to be great on the track but I will never be seen in one to actually test it out. Ford ruined it with the horrid paint job and amount of cheap plastic on the car.

The Camaro is unique looking and certainly not like anything else on the road. But it somewhat resembles a toy. It just doesnt look like a real car. I dont think I would call it a bad looking car. Its just odd, to put it simply. But they are more rare than mustangs so when I see one I get a little excited and check it out.

Performance wise I think the Camaro would get my choice. It has better weight distribution and with a corvette engine can be quite competitive around a circuit.

But OTOH, you folks across the pond have all sorts of cool cars running around that we yanks don't get to see (goofy old me, I'm thinking of Bristols, Jensens and the like, not just Cosworth Fords and Bentleys ;) ).

Ah, I'd wondered how it'd look in person. Yeah...too many nice pieces are ruined cosmetically by juvenile attempts to make the car look "really cool"

Oh, and Welcome to Autopia you two!
