Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine.

Has anyone tried using the OPT NR&S as a standalone QD?

I expected it to be similar to S&W, or at least S&G, turns out I'm glad I didn't give away my last gallon of S&W or S&G. Slickness is nowhere near either of the Poorboy's products, the shine is ok...the cleaning power doesn't even compare to S&W.

I'm going to try adding a couple more ounces of solution to the mix though, hopefully I'll get better results.

I also found it weird that when I made the solution, it was very blue at first, then a few days later it appeared to clear as water...

I haven't try using it as a OD yet... i've been asking around, but no one seems to be using it as a QD yet.

but what's your mixture ratio?

For ease of mixing, I use abt 1oz of NRWS (2 caps) to a 17oz bottle

In gallon terms it'll be abt 7.5oz to a gallon. Is it too little? Should i just put in 3 capfuls?

Maybe some of the "seniors" here can help answer our queries.

I have a 32oz Zep bottle from Home Depot, I fill it up (32oz) and add 6oz (12 caps?) of solution, it's not as slick as I expected it to be.

I think you should add in some more, unless you're getting good results with that dilution.

I love this stuff as a rinse free wash. I've tried it as a QD, but I find S&W is MUCH better for that purpose. I use plush MFs, works great. No marring at all, just make sure to keep turning the towel over and only wipe in one direction.

This was already replied to several posts ago and also in many other posts regarding the No Rinse.

Just a few pages back BillD asked:

Anyone using this in the dilution ratio for a QD yet? If my judgement is correct, this is going to be great S&W replacement.

Here is my reply:

This is the first thing I did with the beta samples Dave sent Ron and I....mixed it up as a QD.

6 to 8 ounces per gallon is all you'll need for a basic QD. Add more if you like. I am finding it works nice on glass also.

Anthony

So yes it makes a great QD and yes it's nice and slick when mixed in this ratio and at this ratio spending $30 will get you about 18 to 20 gallons of QD. It's all I use now, even on windows for my regulars.

Lastly, the blue color fading away does nothing to the active ingredients.

Hi Guys,

I took a pic of my wash mitt after washing my ride with Optimum NRWS. This time round i use the 2 bucket method.

i wash the mitt vigously in my rinse pail between passes... :woot2: :woot2: in the end this is the state of my wash mitt... Personally i thought the mitt should release dirt better than this... but my pal say i'm asking too much from it!

is this the normal end state?

So hoping to get some Autopians' opinions

Just wanted to know what's the defination of "Dirty Mitt"

i may want switch to sheepskin permanently!

The exact same thing happened to me when I used a cotton mitt. I tried using a microfiber towel, and I'll never look back! It definitely releases dirt a lot better, and you'll be amazed.

Can I use this on a foam gun? Duh!, I know I wont get any foam. But can this doable?

Well, since there wouldn't be any foam (and you realize this), I don't think it would work very well. The solution would just drain off of the paint quickly, without any foam to cling to the paint and lift dirt away.

The extra slickness in the Optimum No-Rinse Wash -- is that carnauba stuff, like Meg's QD? Would it hinder an application of Zaino Z2 on top?

E.g. I want to wash whole car with NRWS and then apply ZFX-activated Zaino Z5 or Z2. I want to make sure that it bonds OK (since you can't put Zaino over carnauba).

I believe it is a polymer of some sort.

Optimum NRW&S does not contain Carnuba. it's pure polymer. Similar to Zaino. so no worries about zaino bonding. :bigups

See that's why I won't use my expensive sheepskin mitts for washing this crap off my car. I use MFs, which never look anything like that after QEW. They rinse out extremely well every time.

Paul, what kind of MF are you using? Excel Supreme, Excel Elite, or some other towel? My chenille wash pads have worked well for me over the last year+, but I'm not all that happy with the newer pads ... still linting after 4 washes plus a prewash before using it and the fiber density just isn't what it used to be with the old ones (I can see the backing material). So, I'm looking to try something else with ONR/NRWS ... either MF or sheepskin mitt.

I've been using the green WCD MFs and blue Super Plush MFs from Danase for QEWing. I may start using the yellow Excel Supremes for it though. A plusher MF would be extra protection to keep the dirt away from the paint.

Yellow Supremes I have. Are they plush enough? Now, I use a Megs Ultra Plush terry cloth towel for my initial drying pass, and I have a couple extra. They're definitely a thicker towel than the Supreme, but I haven't read of anyone here using these for ONR or QEW as the wash tool.

With the towel route, do you fold it in 4ths, 8ths? One swipe and then use a fresh part of the towel?

Thanks! My only hesitation in going the towel route over, say, a wash mitt is the number of towels you have to use. This isn't WI, but we do get our fair share of salt, sand, and grime here in MA, and I wash all my MFs by hand right after I use them. With the chenille wash pad, I only had one to wash.

Back to technique though ... from your post, it looks like you fold your towel in 8ths. Is that correct?

I fold it in 1/4s, which really is into 1/8s if you consider both sides. If you only fold it once, it's too big to handle. Part of it droops, and the water will tend to drip off from that point.
