ONR type wash without ONR

I've been doing this with ONR for about a month now. No issues here...even on triple black (whatever that is....it is what the painter told me).

I have been doing it for about four years now and I won't go back.

Are Meguiars polishes water based? I use UC, SwirlX, and ScratchX most of the time. I would like to try that technique out.

I have never had a problem with any polish/compound doing this.

The way I look at it is if the ONR/QEW can't handle cleaning off some polish residue it really has no business being used as a car wash. It has to handle much worse things than paint polish. It does handle it just fine though.

I've never seen any soap damage paint either. Even Dawn.

I have seen a car that was washed with dishwashing soap only for many years. The owner thought the car needed to be repainted because the paint was so dull. A "detail" brought back the paint to "WOW".

Using dawn a few times is fine. But not regular use.

After using both many times I cannot see any difference in appearance, durability ease of use, or any way. This has been debated to death and other than the manufacturer's claim nobody thinks their different.

Okay but it is still an apples to oranges comparison. You still use each one exactly the same, while car wash soap and ONR aren't used the same way.

Seeing that most polishes are water based, that's a great idea. I'll give that a try seeing that I have a fresh gallon of ONR I've been waiting to break open. Finally splurged on it after all these years; but still hesitant to try in on a dirty car. That can be step two of my baby steps of being an entry level sudo-ONRian convert.

At the very least I think you will find ONR helpful in washing compounding dust off cars.

Yeah trying it out on a panel might cause massive damage and require a total repaint. All you novices out there don't try this. This is a major procedure and only for the people with at least 5.634 years of detailing experience :nervous2:

Why don't you try and express yourself without sarcasm and condescension. My comment was that product labels should be followed by novices and "eye balling" ratios is a bad practice. No one said soap residue causes finish damage to the point of a repaint. Your are proving my troll point for me. I think I will stop feeding the troll since he can't defend his position without losing composure.

Hard to pin that assumption on dishwashing soap unless you have another identical comparison vehicle that didn't get washed that way. There's countless threads all over the internet warning people away from products like Dawn, but nobody has produced an once of proof to document that as anything more than internet folklore. The ph of Dawn is actually comparable to many other mainstream car wash soaps. I've been using it on my car for almost 6 months (in the Florida sun) and haven't noticed any adverse effects *yet*.

Some say that frequent washes with Dawn will dry out the rubber seals. Dunno

So I'm ok to use any soap instead of ONR, then? <poking the bear>

Yes, and ignore all usage instructions because chemists are apparently just entrepreneurs after your money. It's much better to eye ball quantities too, that's much more accurate and consistent that using that sissy measuring device. Hell, shampoo is shampoo as far as I'm concerned; says it right there on the label (I never read those though, *insert manly growl*)...I'm going to use it not only for my vehicles but in the shower as well...what's the worst that could happen, just a little dry skin?

*totally joking, just trying to be funny at this point:D

Ban the troll and close this thread already, its pointless.

Wow! Ban some one for doing something different than you do or think it should be done. Nice message your sending out there. Don't dare challenge the established ways or you are a troll and should be banned. You are clearly trying to provoke me so things get out of control and I do something to get my self banned. Feeble attempt and I won't get sucked in.

And you asked me, "why can't you express yourself without sarcasm and condescension "

Look in the mirror. You have absolutely no room to talk.

Take your car soap and wash dirty wheels with it. See how long you have the suds around. Now use dawn, and you will clearly see that it will get rid of grease and dirt much better and the water will remain full of suds.

Dawn will also strip your LSP - or is that also just bs?

Integritydeatil, Scott Wax, and Shutter sure are trying hard now to cause this thread to get locked. Two of them have Optimum connections. Hmmm interesting.
