!!!!! Meguiar's Lab Sample "d"!!!!!

Here are two shots shooting down the line, left side is Z5, right side is LSE.

It was easier to see a difference with your eyes, and quite hard to capture with a camera. I asked several people to tell me which side they thought looked best. Everyone picked the Lab Sample E side because it showed less cobweb effect when you looked at the sun in the middle of each section. It was noticably better, but not as dramatic as I think it is after first machine cleaning.

I would say that by a VERY small margin, lab sample e has better filler capabilities than the zaino.... still not good enough to be a one-step product though.

Mike,

See what I mean? Not much hiding with Z5.

This is one product, although good, needs absolute perfection on a finish.

Looks like "E" did a good job in trying to hide them.

You're still killing me :wall

Deanski

I highly agree.

But the curios cat in me wanted to push the envelope.

Hardest part about today's tests were that after 11:00am, I had to conduct them in covered parking lot which is still suseptible to ash fallout.

The training garage was taken over to prep two Meguiar's vehicles for SEMA. For these two vehicles, a team of our guys swarmed around them with compounds, cleaner/polishes, wool pads, and foam pads, rotary buffers and PC's and lastly Lab Sample E.

Here's a pic

It's not that I don't trust the pictures, but being the (very) pessimistic person I am, I still have to try it for myself. :p Mike, keep us updated on how long the swirl hiding lasts for you.

Manila based tester ready to try it on a lot of cars hehe... Sounds great... if this comes out as promised then I'll be switching back to Meg for top coating on client cars (right now Im using EO Polymer as a topper on all our client vehicles)

Lab Sample E

Today, representatives from two of the most prestigious car manufactures in Europe, (BMW/Germany, and Rolls Royce/UK), came by Meguiar’s to discuss their finish problems at the manufacturing level, and to find out what Meguiar’s could offer as a solution.

I was asked to find a black car and demonstrate Lab Sample E.

Just by chance, there was a black Police Interceptor here to be detailed for SEMA. This car is from Michigan and has been repainted, at least once. The quality of the paint job itself is horrible. You can easily see the bodywork, Bondo patches, etc outlined in the finish.

So it’s definitely not a show car.

That said, while the quality of a paint job is important, sometimes you just have to take them as you get them. This is one of those situations. I needed a black car in bad condition, and that’s what I received. I was told to go ahead and prepare the car for a demonstration.

Here is a before picture of the finish after washing. It's a little out of focus, but you get the idea.

Here is a picture of the deck lid sectioned off. Across the entire back is washed and dried paint only.

There are three sections taped off along the width of the deck lid.

* On the left will be Meguiar’s #20 Polymer Sealant, (by request of the visiting representatives)

* In the middle will be Lab Sample E, (no prep work)

* On the right I will prep the paint using #83 Dual-Action Cleaner Polish on a PC using a W-8006 pad on the 6.0 setting, followed by application of Lab Sample E.

Afterwards, we used a halogen light to inspect the finish, as well as natural sunlight. I also took some photo’s.

Using the flash on the camera, inside the warehouse, I centered the camera in-between the unwashed section, the Lab Sample E section, and the #83/Lab Sample E Section and captured the below photo. If you look at the upper right corner of the Lab Sample E section, (lower left quadrant), you will see a few cobweb scratches.

If you look at the section prepped by machine using #83, followed by Lab Sample E, you will see no cobweb effect. And if you look above both quadrants, and down the tape line, you will see the before picture I called the “Tshot.

On the hood, I merely applied a strip of tape down one half of the hood and applied by hand, one application of Lab Sample E and left the other half the way it looked after washing. (Wash was Meguiar’s Car Wash Soap in the Detailer line),

Here are the results using the flash inside the warehouse,

Here are the results using no flash, after we pulled the car out of the warehouse and into the sun. Again, this was one application of Lab Sample E, with no prep-work on a freshly washed car hood.

Why is there a V10 in a Crown Vic? :o

Ford was thinking about making it available in the Crown Vic for law enforcement. I think I read in Hot Rod the project was cancelled. Too bad, I was looking forward to snagging one in a few years and removing the V10 emblem....it'd make a hell of a sleeper!

rjstaaf-I think the version they used in the Crown Vic is a little milder. I'm pretty sure it was the same version they use in the vans and trucks....something along the lines of 275 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist-which is a substantial increase over the stock 4.6 V8.
