Introducing HD's New DA Polisher Kit!!!

HEY!!!!!!! I have that exact polisher down to the heavy-duty carry case and 710W motor.

And yes, it's much more powerful and works much better than either PC and Megs.

what do you have??? So it doesn't quite compare to the Griot's polisher?

Well on paper, the Griot's has an 850W motor so presumably it would be more powerful, but I have a feeling there's more to the equation like the spindle assembly components (bearing, counterweight mass, etc.). So it's hard to gauge based on size of motor alone.

If this new HD unit has less resistance in the spindle assembly it could theoretically perform better than the Griot's despite its 140W smaller motor. Just like the way the G110v2 outperforms the PCXP despite having 70W less power.

Only time and hands-on experience will tell the tale.

Also, the offset orbit (throw) has a big bearing (pardon the pun).

My DA has an 8mm throw which is very meaty.

I compared it with the GG pc and while the Griots' sounded more powerful, this 3D pc corrected better. I had to admit it to Tounch. The GG was a bit smoother though.

Right, just like the 3/4" stroke of the Dynabrade DA adapter kills heavy defects faster than any other DA on the market. I'm just assuming (and I believe it was mentioned in David's original post) this 3D unit is another 5/16" stroke tool like the PCXP/G110v2/GG6 all are.

I'd personally rather see the kit come with HD Polish and HD Poxy rather than HD Speed. I'd rather have a dedicated polish and wax than a product that only removes fine swirls and doesn't have terribly long durability. Speed does leave a beautiful finish to use after a polish and before a wax though.

I realize it's for the average Joe if it's being targeted for sale at those huge chains. I guess that substitution would drive up the price point considerably and might hurt sales.

I only have a PC right now, but I'm in the market for a Flex or a more powerful DA. The Groits is definitely at the top of my list so I'm curious to see how unbiased users rate the power of the HD unit compared to the Groits.

It's interesting that a poster has a Chinese version that looks exactly the same, has the same wattage rating, right down to the same case. I wonder if the two are manufactured in the same location?

You kinda answered your own question really. In these high volume/fast paced retail settings, you want to really keep things simple for the end user/newbie consumer. The more options you give, the more they will balk and avoid the purchase. This kit can and will give outstanding, quick & easy results for anyone on any car really. You could give this to a 10 year old and they couldn't screw it up.

OTOH, that totally defies what us professionals and enthusiasts untrust, but there is still a great value for this segment too with this kit.

Thomas, those results are beautiful. When I used speed on a friend's Honda Element, trying the HD polishing pad and also the HD cut/polishing pad, on my PC, on speed 5 and also on 6, working a panel with firm pressure and 3 slow horizontal and 3 slow vertical passes per set, I couldn't get out more than light swirls and marring. All the deeper swirls and RIDS remained. It did gloss up the paint beautifully.

I completely understand selling this product to the average person who isn't going to be using halogens, a sun gun, etc to inspect their work. Plus, giving someone a taste of polishing with this setup may pique their interest so they explore more of HD's products and end up with the Polish and Poxy anyway. Excellent marketing strategy. :)

Going to finally play with mine tomorrow on black BMW- been sitting and it filthy. Paint is not that bad and has been polished a lot this year, but have a few lower sections that need work.

I have the foam HD pads that I bought last year- orange and green. Griots to start and then Flex.

Any suggestions, just let me know.

Rob

That must have been an AG trick. Tunch and 3D doesn't play games. The products were shipped from China, on a boat, that takes about 3 weeks. So by the end of the month we should hear about updates and ordering info. I hope this helps.

I hope this isn't another Blackfire launch; announce the product, then don't release it for 5 months.

Hi Rob. Orange pad, medium pressure. Flex will work better naturally. Speed doesn't cut as well (as fast) as HD POLISH but doing more passes will yield the same results.

This is the wrong thread to ask but since you've raised it - I thought SPEED had more cut than HD Polish and that Polish was just a finishing polish.

SPEED = 75% HD POLISH + 25% HD POXY

SPEED will cut just as good as POLISH, but leave a soft finish behind with some very nice protection. I also think it adds a noticeable improvement of gloss too. Unlike just the ala carte operation of applying a basic sealant, with SPEED you're basically burnishing in a sealant into the finish.

And Tunch can correct me if I'm wrong, but by working a sealant into the finish while generating heat, you may (I think) be providing a better, more solid bond to the surface. )i.e. Accellerated crosslinking & layering)

Yea, that really pissed me off about Blackfire.

Thanks for the info, Thomas.
