Interesting Conversation About the Cost of Detailing

Why are they trying to bash Apollo's prices? These people have no idea about tailoring your services towards a niche market. It comes down to a simple formula; if there is a demand, then the people will pay for it. That is quite simple.

Apollo puts out some serious details. I wish them much more success.

"Perfection is designed for Italian thoroughbreds, antique vehicles, as well as high-dollar luxury and sport vehicles.

For the affluent, Perfection is the perfect choice for their weekend car or garage queen."

Seems fair to me. You're targeting a specific market of people who are typically able to afford such work.

I live in Ottawa, much smaller market then Toronto is and still charge $300 for my Ultimate Exterior/Interior package. These mustang guys are complaining that $185 is too expensive. They probably don't do half the things we are capable of.

Try 1/10th... some guy said there that he knows detailing is a little more than a wash & wax... that should say it all

Very few people can perform a true detail at the level many do here. It takes the right products (which aren't normally cheap) and, more importantly, technique and experience. The average person unfortunately doesn't know this and think of a ultimate detail as a wash, wax, and vacuum.

The problem is that they don't even consider that the pictures are pictures. Not the actual car that got a $4100 service. And Nick charges pretty damn close to the same as Apollo's prices. Consider conversion rate in Canada and the extra beating a car takes up there as opposed to Dallas his prices are not bad. Now, perfection of a Jetta starting at $4099?? I would have put a picture of a different car up top. Other than that his site looks great. I have seen some of his corrections in the CB section and he does great work.

yeah those guys are idiots. I'm really glad that here at Autopia there is a no cussing rule. It just looks so juvenile to post like that. Even though the "F" word is one of my mostly used words I wouldn't want to read it on the forums I visit.

They are just clueless and live in a simple world. That's what keps Autozone and Walmart busy selling detail products.:doh

Paint correction and detailing are totally different.

I get a kick out of it, they think they can do the same job. I bet they would just use Turtle wax and put it right over contaminated paint and call it a detail.

In order for a detailer to make money , he has to charge $45.00 per hour. If it takes 4 hours thats $180.00. That is the least . Time is money. If you want paint correction then the price gos up. Anything extra and the price gos up.

I got as far as "stang" in the link title and waved off. :D Sorry for the stereotype, but I've seen too many forums like that to even bother. But, relating myself to the general topic - this is the exact reason I charge what I do. "How much?" is the first question asked by people who don't get it, and it's the best spam filter I could have in place.

Just so you guys know, a Meguiar's detailer started the thread and posted the link to my website. It wasn't a random deal by someone shocked by the cost of doing business. Kind of changes the way you think about it.

Just keep doing your crappy "jettas" and stuff and stop paying attention to this crap... I've had similar experiences recently and it's simply people thinking they just know everything... as someone stated above, not only is your 'regular' work fairly priced, but it'll always be supply and demand.. if someone wants to pay whatever you're asking for whatever you're doing, you'll do it and get what you want... simple as that

DFWStangs.net refuses to let my account through the moderation queue. It's been there since yesterday and I have sent an email to both creators of the forum and yet, nothing? Any time I have joined other forums with a similar queue, the wait time is negligible and easily less than 24 hours.

That's pretty low of him to do that. For anyone that's interested, this poster posts over at Meguiars Online as Nick Chapman.
