I really, REALLY wanted to like the 1Z High Gloss Polish...

... but I don't.

In fact, I think the stuff really sucks. I bought it hoping that it would be a cheaper (like, half the price) alternative to 106ff. Wow, was I wrong. The stuff looks, smells, and feels very similar to 106. It's a bit runnier, but I was thinking, "cool, better lubes!". Wrong!

I loooove 106ff. You can work the stuff a long, long, looooong time, and it still removes easily. Yeah, you do need to do an IPA wipedown afterwards to get rid of it's (unintentional) hiding abilitites, but other than that, it is simply *the very finest* polish I've ever used. So the 1Z did have some big shoes to fill. Like, clown sized, even.

But this stuff didn't even come close. Yeah, the long working time of the Menz had me spoiled, but when I was dry buffing after working the 1Z for only 3 (!!) passes, I was really disappointed. And the stuff is sooooooooooooo very difficult to remove when you're done polishing. Even when I did manage to not overwork it, it was very difficult to remove. Maybe it was just the car I was doing, but I'm telling ya, this stuff was haaaaard to remove. Forum member Greg Nichols will back me up on this. We were working a MB S500 today when I experimented with the 1Z. Did I mention how bad I hate this stuff? Yes, it did leave a very, very nice finish afterward. 106ff-class finish. But I still hate it. Paris Hilton has a longer working time than this stuff.

I dunno. I'm sure there's gonna be some of you guys that like this stuff, and that's great. I'm sure you and your 1Z will be happy together. I just hope it doesn't dry up on you unexpectedly.

Ah well... it's only a quart, right? I mean, how long can *that* last? :)

Glad you posted this SB, I was actually thinking of doing the same thing and pick up some hgp, I trust your observations and will pass.

Thanks for the write up and being very honest with your opinion. It helps.

To try to find an alternative to Menzerna is going to be tough. We got so very spoiled with their polishes. I just wish that 106ff had more oomph.

If it did, there would be no need to design new polishes ever again:werd:

If you want more "oomph" why not use SIP?

I use SIP all the time, but sometimes it can not be finished down (polish pad) perfect on certain clears via rotary without having a couple of holograms. 106 removes the rotary trails if any and removes the tiny holograms on all but the softest of clears.

po87mc does a great job too.

Got ya.

I have yet to "graduate" to a rotary.

I'll have to do a bit of testing for myself. I remember it wasn't too long ago that there was this huge difference between SIP and 3.02 and how we were all missing out on it so....

there is not much difference at all.

I know that Menz. usa states that SIP is 3.02, but he sent me an email months ago stating it was 3.01, unless he has changed it. AG still has it listed as 3.01 as they were told. I have no idea.

At this point then I have no reason to be concerned about any filling as nine times out of ten I go to a paint cleaner and then a sealant these days. I'll motor on as I was.

Well, I have 3 Honda products around here and all of them have soft paint. I'm *not* experiencing this at all. Perhaps this is an issue with previous silicone/wax that's in the paint having some effect.

This is what I had done

I took PG on a orange pad and did half a fender via rotary. It left marring from the PG under halogens. I then took 106ff with a polish pad and polished it untill it was extremely glossy.

I wiped it down with a MF and inspected it under the halogens and it looked great. I then did a straight IPA wipedown and BAM, all the rotary PG holograms came blaring out.

I did this test with a bunch of other finish polishes and all looked great until I did a IPA wipedown. Even some of the Presta polishes had the hiding effect even after all the oils were wiped down. But after the IPA wipedown, they all failed! This is not just a Menzerna thing only, but just goes to show you have to make sure you do a IPA wipedown to remove the oils.

PO87mc did a great job at removing most of them, but still had some hiding effect.

I know all paints do not react like this, but this was a great paint to test the real hiding effects with IPA.
