Are you using a PC? What color?

If so a simple process would be

Wash

clay

ultra cutting creme light w/pc on yellow LC pad or white pad depending on paint

presta swirl remover, zpc or 106ff on a white lc pad

wax or sealant

Ok,bare with me here,as I'm new here :)

What is a PC? I have always used pads to apply paint cleaners and waxes.

Paint is a dark green colored Ford Explorer.

I checked with my local body shop supply store and they need $27 for the blue Presta pad, $26 for the green and $22 for the adapter. I'm not all that keen on spending $80+ on something I may use once or twice.

Does Edge = Presta or vice versa?

It sounds like the industry has moved to this quik disconnect system for pad mounting. I've got a boatload of foam pads and just bought some of the Propel. I'm really not keen on starting in with a new "system". I don't use the PC and Makita enough to justify it and have little need for paint "correction".

The store said they have the old style single sided wool pads by 3M attached by the bolt thru center method. They're around $10. I've got a couple of NOS Schlegel pads as well.

Any thoughts? Thx.

Highly doubted considering Edge has a patent pending for the Adapter (I believe, need to check). Also note there aren't many actual pad manufacturers that take the foam and apply it to backing plates or velcro.

Stick with Velcro backed pads- you can find the Makita wool pad with velcro backing at some Lowe's stores.

Edge makes the pads and buffing pad system for Presta. If your just gonna do a job once then buy the Schlegal wool velcro pads. They are excellent pads and they should be around $10. Then you can finish with the foams you have.

OK, thanks, guys. I did a little more telephoning this afternoon and found a more reasonable solution. My local guy (Milford) can get the all the pcs. for around $55, which I can live with. If this strategy is highly successful, I'll use the wool pads + #1500 polish more in the future when I typically woulnd't reach for something like that. It could turn out to be time-saver ;)

I assume I can use the adapter with the small Edge foam pads, etc., right?

Thx.

You can use the small edge pads on the rotory too. System is pretty cool but not cheap. I also use the regular pads too. I have tons of backing plates and have them attached to different pads and can change real fast with the rotory button and a twist.

I wish these items were much cheaper.

Yes, I picked up the pads this afternoon and the Z*PC arrived, too. Still waiting for the Presta polishes (3) to arrive.

you said you have foam pads also for the rotory?

Also do you have a pc?

Foams pads? Oh my, yes!! Many foam pads for both the Makita and PC.

I figure I'd follow your routine and start with the wool on the rotary and transition to the PC to finish up.

I may start by practicing on the old car first ;) However, these Presta pads are super-dense and quite a bit softer than any wool I've worked with in the past. I was somewhat relieved when I saw how thick they were.

Cool...Yes the edge double sided wool pads are very thick and have a long strand with a deep pile. So they are much safer than your standard short strand pile. The only downfall with a new pad is the shedding at first. Just make sure to spur the pad to loosen up the pile and it will get some of the loose strands out. It's not that much of a biggie though.

You will like the way they work....I know I do!:buffing:

Yeah, I think they make mention of that.... the part about all the flying fur when the pads are new. I am excited to give it a try.

The guy at the store was intrigued by the pads - - he said he'd never seen them before. He said the only Presta product he knew of was a shampoo he has in gallons that a few regulars customers like.

Ya most body shops only buy the same stuff they bought in the early 80's. Most have not changed and probably will not. This is one of the only sites I have seen change and newest products and real products that really work.

rydawg you have to come give me a presta demonstration this spring

we should have a detail day

We should all get together and have a detail day! We will try more than just Presta.

Maybe we will help Diesel get that matte look finish you wanted him to get:laugh: :rofl

Maybe we can light something on fire and see how well protection is or isn't:think2
