While I may not agree with the marketing strategies of certian companies (wax or otherwise), I think it's only fair (two sides to every coin) to discuss marketing tactics of Zaino's. It's very very clever really, almost genius, but so simple. With no formal marketing program, all you really have to do is hook a few guys on internet forums who are really into the products, then form a 'buddy buddy" relationship with them and call them with the "inside scoop" on every product known to man so they are the annointed "informed ones" on the big ole internet, make them "beta testers", and a few other nice tricks, and what do you get? Presto! A group of guys so dedicated to a singular product they are like rabid dogs if anything is said negative, any comparisons are made against Z, or anything that contradicts the "official" Z opinion from on high. Why is that marketing strategy not discussed in detail? Well, let's see...first and foremost, every single one of them would lose every shred of credibility they so long for.
My question is this....there are crummy marketing schemes used every single day across every single industry. Why not go after them all guys? I know it's all in the interest of preventing "misinformation" right? Unless there is some sort of vested interest in the product you're so rabidly defending, why care so much what competitor B says about competitor A??? I know I could care less. I give people the benefit of the doubt most of the time in that they are able to think for themselves and make intelligent opinions on the information they receive. Why not go after Billy Mays every time he's got a new one on TV?
I drive an Infiniti. So what. BMW may say punishing things about Infiniti every day in ad campaigns, and I really couldn't care less, because I'm happy with what I have. I would probably care a LOT more though if I had something to gain from Infiniti as a company though!
Bottom line, all the drama over car wax is actually quite comical, in my opinion. It is car wax folks. Sometimes detailing forums feel more like another episode of Days of Our Lives, than an informal, laid back chat about car wax. In the grand scheme of the world, car wax is meaningless anyhow. So wax competitor B says something crappy about wax A...so what! Guess what? 99.9999% of the US population doesn't give a crap. So, how about take up a worthy cause and prevent "misinformation" about something that at least some minute percentage of American's might actually care about? How about giving some of that rabid-ness to the Fair Tax supporters? At least that's something that would truly benefit someone and change society for the better. (IMO at least)
