Hi-Temp Extreme Cut

Thinking about getting HTEC as I have seen many people use it here and they seem to like it. I've read that it has great correction and doesn't dust as much as other aggressive compounds. Currently I am using the optimum line-up, they all work great, but i'm looking for easier use and cutting down on my steps by mixing OP with HTEC. What does everyone think of HTEC? Also, those that have used both, how does it compare to the optimum line-up as i've never used hi-temp stuff before?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

I can't really compare it with Optimum stuff as the only Optimum product I've used is OP.

I've only used H-T EC with foam pads (no wool).

I find that the H-T EC slots in-between two of my 3M PI-III RCs- it's a bit more aggressive than PI-III RC 05933 but it's milder than PI-III Extra Cut RC 05936.

I do really like H-T EC, it's effective without being "liquid sandpaper"-scary (the way the PI-III ECRC 05936 is). I've used it straight, mixed with a *little* OP, and mixed with a bit of 1Z Ultra/Extra; each of those three methods worked well, with subtle differences between them.

I would *not* mix too much OP with it, it seems to dilute the cut a bit too much while not offering any benefit over adding just a little. A *little* OP will increase the work time (as did the 1Z Ultra) but IMO with a bit of familiarization you might find that the H-T EC works fine by itself. I've gradually gotten away from adding OP to it and I don't seem to be having problems with the work time being too short. You might oughta add the OP if using it by PC/Cyclo/etc. though, as the longer work time would probably ensure more thorough breakdown of the abrasives.

As with most aggressive products, I'd use it with a cutting pad and yeah, you'll need a follow-up with a milder product/pad combo.

haha yeah,

i didn't even notice that. What i meant by that was: does it appear to be better than OPT stuff as that is all I have ever used? Also, is it worth mixing OP with HTEC in order to get a better result/longer working time?

I find it a step up over Hyper. More cut, better finish. It does dust more and a little OP helps but as Accumulator states, don't dilute too much.

I used a wool polish pad on a burgandy car a couple weeks ago. I started a couple panels with the wool and Hyper and found it to swirl too much. I switched to the HTEC and it corrected the Hyper swirls and a couple passes later the finish was ready for a foam finish.

I was thinking of maybe even going as high as 30% OP. Would that be too much?

I wasn't too precise about it, just put some OP on the pad along with the H-T EC. But 30% is *MUCH* more OP than I used. The idea is to just add enough that the additional lubricity of the OP can keep the H-T EC from drying/flashing too fast. Adding a functionally significant amount (abrasion-dilution-wise) will start down the road of compromising the abilities that make H-T EC so good; a bit too much OP (and I don't think it'd take much) and IMO you're gonna turn the Extreme Cut into something like H-T Heavy Cut.

And as I said, after a bit of experience I dunno if you'll want to add *any* OP to it, at least with the rotary.

I'm currently using Optimum too. I will probably try HiTemp next after my OHC runs out. My question for today is about clean up. I've noticed that although Optimum doesn't dust much, it gets the pads, both foam & wool gummy and they're a chore to clean. The easiest to clean up after that I've used was XMT #3. How does HiTemp compare?

JuneBug- Sorta-crappy answer follows :o

Must not be too bad as I can't remember it being an issue. Hopefully somebody else will chime in with something more useful....

I love to use HTEC with wool. Even heavy defects just melt away in seconds and the finish is damn close to LSP-ready. I prefer this to Menz 3.02.

Ive noticed the HC is used a bit more than the EC here the EC is usually used with the WOOL pads..

the combo i see here alot with Hitemp is from PICUS. Im sure he will chime in soon!!

EC/wool@1800

HC/Orange@1400

106ff/white@1400 (or ive seen OP and #80 clean it up as well)

I've got to try that.... I have HTEC sitting on a shelf, having only been used once. I'm doing a Suburban that has some pretty bad swirls/defects on Monday. Think I'll give it a shot.

is this also called "Extreme Cut Leveler"?

Extreme Cut Leveler

Also notice the two different names on the bottles.

Ya thats the stuff. They do label bottles differently. I have not tried their compound. Stick with the leveler for all but the nastiest jobs.

I've been wanting to try HTEC for a while now. Anyone know how well it will work using a PC?

works well with a cutting pad on hard clears....speed 6 only for defect removal

finishes off almost wax ready, but I usually throw on a light polish before waxing
