Grout pad

i like both the HD and Lowes GS's, but the Lowes is a bit softer and easier to handle/manuever. everyone is going to have their own opinion, but in the end you can't go wrong with either... :2thumbs:

One thing is for sure, since Spoiledman introduced us to the GS, car wash induced swirls are a thing of the past.

I really can't wait to polish out my "winter" swirls and do some testing with the GS. Seems like in warmer weather with 2 washes per week, I end up with swirls every 6 weeks or so (minor, but any swirls will bug an autopian). That's with using 2 bucket wash and microfiber waffle weave drying towel that's been tested to be a no swirler. That really only leaves the wash media which has been the WalMart sheepskin mitt. Once I get my integra polished, I'm be inspecting the paint under halogen's after every wash to see exactly when/if swirls show back up.

 Hmm! Could be, although even with the many regular ones that I have, some have larger pores than others. Now I have to check it out, but the only way to be sure is to compare a bunch of the two with its own kind and with the other. Either way the Lowes GS rocks and remains for me the safest media to use on my ultra soft clearcoat.

i was just at lowes this evening and they had the easy grip sponge (also the jumbo size, but it was too hard for my liking) and it is the same material as the tile & grout sponge, but seems a tad denser and slightly not as soft and squeezable. the tile & grout sponge (the one you are currently using) is the best choice of them all and i even looked at the xl tile solutions as well. no need to switch... :2thumbs:

I checked them out today also and the pore size vary in all of them, but overall they are still larger than any other GS. I did notice however, that the easy grip version had less pores. I agree, I think the one we have been using is the softer one.

agreed. the pore sizes will vary from sponge to sponge (i'm sure the mold(s) to make the sponges differ), but overall they are still bigger than any other GS i've come across (softer too) as you mentioned. i was going to buy one of the easy grip sponges but decided to pass on it...

I'm a recent grout sponge convert (yay!) and I found the easy grip sponge (bought two by accident) to be a little less dense than the regular rectangular one. The regular one seems to hold far more than the easy grip, and so I use it for washing my car body while the easy grips are used to wash the wheels (the shape just works really well on getting into the spokes on mine).

The easy grips seems to be easier to clean out in rinse water too (just fling em around a little while holding the middle and they wash out real quick).

Welcome to the club!

Thanks detaildoc! Oh, and as an observation, the only "bad" thing I noticed about the grout sponges are that they hold so much soap, completely washing them out (getting all the soap out of them) tends to be a pain, but that's not really a negative now is it? :)

I actually did find that to be a negative. They hold so much soap that when doing an ONR wash, I almost ran out of soap and my rinse bucket was overflowing. Since it holds a lot of soap and then after I rinse in the rinse bucket I wring it out.....a lot of wash water was used then transferred to the rinse bucket.

Oh....and I use 2 - 2 gallon buckets....guess maybe it's time to upgrade to a couple 5 gallon buckets.

True, they can be a pain to rinse out completely. I used to have that problem when I washed them in my bathroom sink . I recently found a way to solve this problem by rinsing them under the faucet in the kitchen sink or bathtub (:nervous: until wifey finds out), both which have a lot more pressure. This really helped out a lot.

Definitely a 5 gallon bucket for the rinse bucket. I only use one gallon of water for my ONR and never ran out. I always squeeze it a bit before taking it out of the bucket, so I don't end up with a lot of water on the floor.
