Griot's new polisher-what is it?

kgb- Good spotting, figuring out what it is :xyxthumbs

This makes the third RO sander Griot's has sold, first the Metabo, then the PC, now this.

I never use my PCs at speeds under 4, but note that the Mosay only goes down to 4000 opm. Wonder what benefit the 7000 opm top speed might impart and whether it bogs down the way the PC can.

Might be better than the PC (regulars here know I'm not too impressed by the PC) but I also wonder about having it serviced and if it'll take PC-spec backing plates

Doesn't appear that anyone in the US sells it under that name. Hmmm...You do find it on a bunch of import / export sites if you google it though. So, Richard has made a trip to China and sourced it. I should ask my China guy what he can get them for-probably blow your mind. Just worked on an order where the item cost me 86 cents ea. to have it made here, 3 cents in China.

From the color of it, It looks like a Black and Decker model. I have never seen it but rest assured that Home Depot will carry it. The cooling fan looks like a dust collection outlet for sanding. IMO its just another spin off of a DA polisher/sander and can be bought in time at retail stores. My guess is that it can be bout for about $80.00 once it hits the stores.

Anyone know if the PC Flex Series has a RO sander? I am looking for a new PC and am hoping I can get a new Flex. Thanks!

Good thing this isn't the 50's with Senator McCarthy around.

We'd see Richard in Clooney's new movie GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK

It's a shame he's abandoning the Made in the USA PC for this Chinese product. It's indicative of the larger issues of cheap imports hurting good old, quality Made in the USA products.

It's not a Black and decker, read above. :P

Accumulator, it was driving me nuts trying to figure what it was so I was not resting until I found it. LOL

Good work!! I originally thought it might be a Milwaukee because of the red but didn't see anything like it on their website. You definitely found it though. Like all things Griot I'm sure it's much cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks. LOL I also thought it was a Milwaukee at first and also did not find anything similar on their web page.

When I first got serious into detailing I was a hug fan of Griot's until I started finding all of the products cheaper, like over 50% cheaper without the Griot's name on it. He has that square wash bucket for like $70 or something ridiculous and we got the EXACT same one, but in blue and without a Griot's decal, for $11.00 and that came WITH casters on it! LOL

any where we can buy a cheaper version of this polisher? i woudl like to try this, but save some money.

I have not been able to find a retailer in the U.S. and I e-mailed the company but if they don't speak English I think it might be hard. LOL If I find one around I will for sure let everyone know. I am willing to bet if you do find it in the states it will be for under $100.

I doubt it would take the same backing plates, simply because I seem to recall at one time reading the PC-spec backing plates are only rated up to 6,000 RPM.

The biggest disadvantage I can see this tool having is no different than the one thing I dislike about using a rotary in confined spaces: that bail handle. While I love it for the purpose of enhanced control, I hate how it gets in the way under side mirrors, on trunks, etc.

Contact one of the I/E companies that represents Mosay and tell them you're interested in bringing in 200 of them. I'm guessing you could get them on the water for under $30 ea.

Yeah, I haven't had a handle on my PC since forever and I can't remember the last time I used one on my rotary either.

I'd sure check out the backing plaste and repair service issuesbefore buying one of those.

To answer a question from before in this thread. Porter Cable has come out with a small rotary ( Metabo size), Model L1503VR.

Yeah, but be careful, it starts out at 1200rpms, nothing lower. I've seen them for @ $200 and the Metabo for $235 which starts at 700rpms if I remember correctly. Just a bit of info to share.

Hey kompressornsc, for sh*ts and giggles, ask your China guy what he could get them for. Just out of curiosity. It would be intresting to see.

Anyone interested in asking Griots why they moved to this Chinese machine? :usa

The L1503VR is a cool little machine but it's really meant for the stone and solid surface industries, hence the higher speed.

Too bad, it would be easy to make a version with the gear ratio cut in half. The speeds would be just right and you'd get twice the torque.

PC.

Actually for less than you might think you can private label a China made tool. There is a site called www.globalsources.com that puts you in touch directly with the manufactures. A lot of folks on ebay buy through this source and resell just about anything.

I did a quick search on their site and came up with this result just by typing keyword "car polisher".

The link was long so I shortened with with tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/8ft7o

Quite interesting to say the least. :)

That's quite a link. Jeez, made in in China stuff can undercut just about any product made elsehwere. That country is like a gorilla spewing out cheap knock offs.

Here is the car wash page LINK
