Griot's new polisher-what is it?

Got my latest Griot's catalog yesterday (was going through withdraw-hadn't received one for a week!:) ) and they're showing a new polisher. Obviously, they're just rebranding someone else's, but what is it?

Name that Polisher

Yeah, seems to be a decent tool. Faster then the PC, less vibration, and a cooling fan to cool the backing plate, Hmmmm...... Add to Cart.......

I'm surprised that the price is actually reasonable.

Does anyone else think that having a fan blowing on the backing plate could cause polishes to dry faster than normal?

Interesting...notice it doesn't say it's a dual-action. Are they still selling the PC as well? Also, it doesn't look to me like there would be much effect on drying polishes (from the fan).

If you seriously buy one please post a review after you've used it. The added OPM of this new polisher sounds really intriguing.

The PC is still on the Griot's website, but was not in the new catalogue I got this week.

"Alex, I can name that polisher in 6 posts..."

Nobody knows what it is? Figure that if it's @ Griot's for $129, you could buy the non-Griot's version for about $75 or so.

A sander by any other name is still a sander! Look at the dust collection housing.

While this may be a great machine, what makes the PC the best machine is versatility. I have not found another DA that has a threaded backing plate spindle. This allows a wide range of backing plates and brushes to be used with the PC. Until another tool maker figures this out, the PC will still be the machine to have.

Looks nice, but is the backing plate flexible? If it is rigid, ya might as well get a B&D variable speed Orbital sander for $40 at Lowes--4000-12000 OPM

Edit--and the B&D has the "cooling fan" too :rofl

Well spotted! I guess that answers Zoom's question about the fan....well, sort of...cuz it will be pulling up from the backing plate rather than blowing down onto it. Dust collection fan to cooling fan...that's marketing spin for you.

Ever notice that Griot’s usually mentions if a tool is made in the US?

No mention here. My bet is it’s from offshore someplace and they picked it up to cut the cost back. Not that that’s intrinsically bad. They do give a lifetime guarantee on everything they sell.

I’ll stick with the PC.

PC.

Looks like a neat little machine. I think it's about the same price as a PC?

If that's the case I know which one I'd choose.

I can't get a PC because they're not available in 220-240V, so I know what it's like not to have all the detailing accessories associated with it. I've learned to live with it just fine, but still, I wouldn't have gotten my machine if the PC was available here and for about the same price.

Dewalt 443

Nope.

I posted a link to what I think it is on detailcity.com.

http://www.mosay.com/proinfo.asp?pl_id=173 That is my first guess. My second guess is the new Porter Cable "Flex" line but I am pretty sure it is the Mosay. Also, this "cooling fan" is not going to be some seperate fan like on your computer. It is just some blades directing air at the motor or away from the motor just like any other power tool has.

Also, I don't think Griot's is giving a lifetime warranty on that item from what I have read.

Who else sells this particular machine then?

From the looks of it you don't need any tools to change the BP. It seems to have a button on top like a rotary so that you can just spin it off.
