Could Ferrari Dealer Washes Really be as Bad as the Others?

So my dad recently had his 348ts serviced at Ferrari of Orange County, and I explicitly made sure he told them not to wash it. Well, they did anyway and you can see how the horrible aftermath (mind you the paint was mint beforehand).

Being a detailer I see this all the time from dealer washes, but you would think that a Ferrari dealer would take a little better care of the cars – wrong!

Being the nice son I am, I went to work correcting all the horrible swirls put into the paint. Here are some before and afters so you can see the difference:

- ONR wash

- no clay needed

- Menzerna SIP on green LC CCS (in heavily swirled areas)

- Menzerna SIP on orange Sonus Swirlbuster pad (X 2 on the hood)

- Mezerna PO106ff on white LC CCS

- Isopropyl wipedown

- ZymÖl carbon

- Duragloss Aquawax

After:

Can you say ZERO swirls?

I would say the moral of the story is it doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive: Stealership washes are the work of the devil!

I would call that dealer and lay into them hardcore that is BS. we are not talking about a damn honda it is a ferrari!

Charge that dealer your fee to fix there screw up!

Wow, I would have thought a higher end car dealership would put a little effort into buying some top $ detailing products. I guess you are correct though. Plus, they didn't even listen when he told them NOT to wash it. :nono

Great work though. I'm sure your dad was happy. Maybe he can talk to the dealership and get you to detail Ferraris for them or at least get some of their customers

I've told me dad to, we'll see if he ever does...and you're right. It's ridiculous to see Ferraris being treated like this. You'd be amazed at the horrible condition of some on the service drive, I wonder why :down

Yeah, I was considering talking to them. I went around back to see how they take care of the cars, and I'm sure the guys back there have no idea what the hell they're doing :nervous2:...their wash technique was an abomination.

favorite ferrari after the 512tr and testarossa... looks great

I would take the photos back to the dealership, or have your father do so, and definitely charge them for your detail work. I've seen it done here in Chicago and I'm sure they'll act the same way in Cali... they're a Ferrari dealership and they will not want anything bad said about them... work from them would be a plus...

Or go in and ask for work, and if they don't hire you, THEN charge them haha

i just had the same experience with the caddy dealer. HAD to take my CTS in for a necessary warranty claim. THE CAR WAS PERFECT AND CLEAN. anyway, told them that the car was not to be washed because i thought that i better. JUST IN CASE:doh they would be stupid enough to wash a clean and detailed car. you know where i'm going with this. flawless white diamond paint transformed into scratch city in a second. this is why my avey and C6 have never been to the dealer, not even for recall stuff.

I made up signs in English, Spanish and Portuguese that specifically stated "do not wash this vehicle" and put them into page protectors. When I drop the vehilces off for service or warranty work, I put the signs on the inside of the windshield, on the drivers and passenger's side window and tape a copy onto the steering wheel.

I also make it a point to make the service writer put it on the work order and highlight it.

I used AltaVista's Babelfish to do the translations.

So far, I have never had a stealership swirl problem!

GREAT IDEA! lol

Bet you the guy in the back shop who does the "free" wash job is making top wage. That's why the dealer always gives you a perfect wash job. When I had a Honda Van my dealer was giving free washes run through a brush type wash behind the building.

Best idea is a sign on the dash and passenger seat. "DO NOT WASH"

He should take the before and after shots with him.

Nice job making it all better. :)

nice recovery. Seems like no matter what car detailer it is, they dont care about the paint.

I am not so sure it is that they don't care as they don't know any difference. 90& of the owners/GM's of delearships probably have no clue how to wash a car safely so you know the guys in the shop don't know either. All dealership owners/GM's know is how to sell cars.

Very nice thing to do for your Dad........and your work is outstanding. It just goes to show that Ferrari dealers hire chimps just like Kia dealers or used car lots.
