CD-2 Engine Detailer

There was another thread on this topic a while ago. No, Black Magic and CD2 are not the same product. Actually they complement each other very well. You clean the engine with Black Magic and give it a shine with CD2.

The Auto Zone I shop at also had them mixed up, I had to look behind the Black Magic to find CD2.

Here's what my engine looked like before the timing chain broke....

It is at Autozone, indeed. I check there about 6 months ago and got one of those responses you'd all recognize: no knowledge, no interest. But lo and behold, I checked Saturday and there sat several cans on the top shelf.

I asked the lady at the counter about it and she said they'd always carried it. Yeah, right. Then another worker walked up and said sure, but they never had it in stock. Anyway, glad I got it and I'll be trying it out this week on my Tundra.

Havent posted in a long time but am getting back into detailing and found this thread. The product's been around for a while but I never bought a can to see how it was because I had a gallon of Meguiar's Engine Kote (now discontinued I believe). Anyway, I stopped by Autozone and purchased all 6 cans that were on the shelf. The manager at that store said it's not discontinued or anything like that but ill check back in a few weeks to see if they stocked it back up. Another AutoZone store I called said they just redid their shelving and dont think that they sell it anymore.

I did almost the same thing, but i left a couple of cans. I'll check back in a couple of weeks to see if they restock the CD-2.

BTW, is your avatar a Peter Gransee ARC LS flashlight? Nice to see another flashaholic in Autopia. :up

I can't believe it is this difficult for people to find...or I guess I should say I am surprised more people don't stock it. There is a little hole in the wall place up in Grand Rapids, MI that has it stocked for $2.99 a can - When I picked it up they had em on sale for $1.99.

I think I picked up 15 cans at the time. I would offer to pick some up for fellow Autopians but by the time I add in packaging and shipping costs it probably wouldn't be much savings to pass onto you guys.

Yes it is. Joined in 2002 but havent visited in a long time. I only go back when I need a new one for a specific purpose but that hasnt happened in a while. It's kinda like detailing. I have some 1Z stuff and AIO/SG but not sure if theyre spoiled from sitting in an unheated garage this winter.

I must be using cd-2 incorrectly. When I let it dry it leaves spots of puddled product. I have to do a wipe down to smooth it out.

Any ideas, am I putting it on too heavy? I don't think I am.

That's normal. There always places I have to buff after I apply it.

Well damn....If I had known that, I wouldn't have purchased six cans a couple of weeks ago...Oh well. Looks like I'm stocked up.

CD-2 Is Not Discontinued, Its Now Available Again.

Give It Some Time, Its Flowing Again...:wavey

Has anyone used the CD-2 on low gloss or flat black engine parts? My valve covers and intake are low gloss black paint and I am wondering what effect the CD-2 would have on it. I have a can that I bought several months back and I have never used. I usually spray the engine down with simple green and use Megs #40 or Endurance gel on all of the hoses.

you can always spray a light coat and buff off the excess for less shine (or heavier for high gloss). i don't regret paying $5 for a can at all and i'll continue to use it... :up the key for me is to spray nice and liberally (like if you were lightly spray painting something) so i don't get too many runs/drips...
