Armor All Wheel Protectant - Looks amazing

I wonder if it would repel grime from the wheel wells. I'm going to have to call the ArmorAll hotline to learn which surfaces might be discolored or damaged by this product

I called Armor All and asked about it. They tested on all wheel types, painted, clear coat, steel, aluminum, etc. Evidently it has been available in Australia for a couple years already. So I asked about effectiveness on wheel wells and they said it wasn't tested for that. Use at own risk, I suppose. Maybe I'll try a test spot in an unseen area, but if it discolors the tires maybe it's not such a bright idea.

I apply tire dressing (DG 253) before using the Armor all wheel protectant.

I haven't had any problems with discoloring of my blackwall tires. Of course I try not to spray the tires, but some of the product drips on the bottom of the tires after a few mins.. I just go back and wipe it off.. No problems so far. .

Is it just me or in the vid on the AA site, did the honey seem to magically disappear on the treated side after he stood the wheel up? If so, I need to try it on some dirty dishes...

Either way, Im going to have to give this a try. Looks promising.

This has been discussed for quite some time on the German car forums, namely the BMW forums.

Two words summarize this product: it works.

The Euro crowds also seem to love their tire shine products. They claim that it's better than any of Meguiar's tire products.

Eagle One has a similar product but I'm not sure if it's hit the stores yet.

Are you talking about Keep Clean Wheels? I got it at Autozone sometime last year. It does work in repelling brake dust and other contaminants, but it seems to leave a white milky film behind after it dries. I've tried wiping it off after it dried, but that greatly reduced it's effectiveness.

Got a can, tried it, liked it. I did it on 1 front wheel only and after 2 weeks and some rain storms, the wheel was noticeably cleaner and easier to clean than the rest. You could see the water bouncing off the wheels when power washing vs the others as well. Not a bad product but after it sits for a few hours, wipe it down or else it can leave a tiny film.

I just sprayed it on my rims today. Haven't driven it yet. I do like the fact that it doesn't leave a milky residue like Eagle One's Keep Wheel Clean.

I picked some up yesterday and used it with my wash. I did notice this morning that some of the overspray to the tires made them brown and yucky. Nothing that a little cleaning didn't fix, but just beware.

I HATE cleaning wheels, so hopefully this will keep that darn break dust at bay....and I only drive a honday SUV. I would hate to have to clean the break dust on a european car.

Update:

I used this about two weeks ago on my truck. It had rained hard here and I use a gravel alley to get to my garage and the wheels and wheel wells were caked with dirt from the gravel puddles.

The wheels looked great. Nothing was stuck to them at all. I did an ONR wash on the truck and the wheel wells needed more than a spray down so those were washed. I just sprayed the tires and wheels off and didn't dry them either. No spots unlike what I would normally have if I didn't dry fast enough.

It works and I am sold.

EDIT: The following test was conducted on a 2005 BMW M3.

I layed this down about 2 1/2 weeks ago and here is what I found.

Week 1)

I was really impressed. The brake dust literally settled on the lower portion my mesh wheels and did not adhere to the surface one bit. One pass with an air hose and the dust was gone.

Week 2)

Different story. No settling of the brake dust as witnessed during the first week and the dust build up was about 75%-80% of what I am accustomed to seeing with FK1000P on the wheels.

Week 2.5)

No difference noted. Usual brake dust build up.

Environment:

Week 1) One rain storm and one ONR wash (~400 miles: 350 highway 50 city)

Week 2) One rain storm and one ONR wash (~200 miles: 150 highway 50 city)

Week 2.5) No rain and no wash (~50 miles: all city)

At about $9 a can of which I used ~2/3 to 3/4 of to coat the outer and inner wheels it's not cost effective from my perspective. FK1000P ($15 for a tub that will last me for years) and the normal wheel clean up I am used to is extremely more cost effective IMO.

This may be a good product for a show car that doesn't see the "real" world, but I'll stick with FK1000P for my DD.

I bought a can and used it on my Mini Cooper which is a notorious PITA with regards to brake dust. I'm not ready to give it a thumbs up or down yet but will report soon.

I have a g35 which dusts like crazy. Even the back rims get ugly within a couple days. I used it on all rims and I must say I have been slightly impressed.

I can see the exact spots where I missed spraying it. The outline is clear. I wish I took pictures because its kind of amazing how much dirtier the unsprayed areas are compared to the coated parts.

BUT

I went and wiped them down with some 425 the next day (because the spots were annoying me) and It seemed to pretty much kill the effect of it. 2 days later after applying (1 day after wiping them down) and the accumulation is pretty much back to normal.

I noticed when I first applied, a few drips of water (from the lugnut area) dropped on the rim and the beads that formed were incredible. Now not so much. Pretty much the usual.

I still can not pass judgement. Everything was great until I wiped it down. But My wipedown was so light that it makes me wonder how a rainstorm would affect it (or even a deep puddle for that matter).
