Another Zymol convert

First of all I want to thank all of your guys for the valuable info that over the years I have read. It has made me a decent detailer for my cars and I enjoy spending my free time "practicing" ! While my detailing has not advanced using machinery and its not to the level of ultra concours, my pride and joy ( Guards Red 911) has got a couple of top 3 finishes in our local concours.

At any rate in the past couple of years I have been using Souveran and I'm very happy with the results. I also use Klasse on my wife's car as its an easy way to get good results and quickly. Recently I have purchased as my daily driver a very tired 97 E320 with over 100K on the clock. She looked decent when I got her, many scratches etc, but heck she is a daily driver and the car is solid. I never had the time to devote to her till yesterday. I thought I would do my usual clay, polish etc and finish with Klasse but a friend a few months ago gave me as a present a Zymol package with HD Cleanse and Concours Estate wax. I remember reading on the forums about it, but when I tried it on my 911, it was a major PITA to take off and it did not produce the results I was expecting. Or so I thought... till I did a research on these forums and found out the correct way of doing it. So yesterday I had the whole day to myself and the car. I clayed and polished it using the HD polish and then I applied the Concours... Applying it with your hand is actually pretty neat, I did not try that before despite the instructions and I must say you can see clearly a nice thin coat applied. Its also something special I guess "bonding" with your car :grinno:

With the HD polish alone the paint felt really smooth and glossy. I was very suprised. Of course I had the exact same results with the Concours, looking kind of dull after the initial application, but I remain confident that the afternoon session after the wax has cured it would be stunning. Low and behold it was so true! After the afternoon session the paint looks amazing especially given the fact that it was so tired! Now I see some light purple hues in the seal gray color, sparkles that I have never seen before!

All and all I must say I'm very pleased and I highly recommend the HD and Concours.

Well congrats, but without further adue...the ol' complimentary rude line "This thread is worthless without pics." Lol!



On the serious side, the range of color reproduction and depth of reflection are two of the main talents of an EGZymol, not necessarily the sheen. It isn't immediately apparent when you first put it on (depending on what you were using before.....I noticed it right away like a bolt of lightning). The effect becomes much more dramatic when you observe distant objects reflected into your finish, and the amazing clarity and sharpness that the EGZymols are capable of producing.



As a final request, please resist the temptation of pairing it with other wax products. The emphasis is not sheen, it is color rendition, clarity and depth of shine. Any wax product can give you sheen with the right preparation, but very few can give you the sharpness of color and depth of shine in the same magnitude of an EGZymol. It is my opinion (you can ask others like Mikeyc) that you could compromise the range and color potential if you put things underneath a Zymol. It has to be as close to the true finish as possible to see its full result.



Enough of me now......else this might become another 9-page novel. Lets see results with pics when you get a chance.
 
some wax make paint darker and other make paint brighter and you know what advange and dis advantge for both waxes .....but zymol estate glaze is diffrent depth -refliction gloss and sharpness

and also the durbality its fantastic 5-6 month its bonding water like new coat applyed yestrday



aftar tried HD CLEANS : good product but very strong in paint maybe cant clean more than 2 coats

because isaw when wipe the hd -cleans its implifiy the line of laquer paint in all corner end . im going to use color x or klass

Glad to see another person that took the plunge and tried an estate glaze. I love my Zymol Concours, it is for sure the best carnuba I have ever used and I have all the best in my collection(souveran, natty's blue, etc..). I did notice that with the concours, once you start to build up your layers, your finish will become mind blowing :eek: . I am currently at 6 coats, and have noticed an increase in shine and depth at every coat. I try to wait at least a week in between coats to let the glaze fully cure, and the last few I have "spit shined" with quickshine. Even people that are not in the know have asked me "what the hell are you using for wax???!!" It is a finish that stands out in a crowd, I couldn't be any happier :spot Oh, and the beading....don't even get me started :chuckle:

As already mentioned, I recently experimented with putting a sealant underneath my Zymol and was not impressed with the result. If anything Zymol with nothing under it looks much nicer.



Once you get about 2 coats of Concours on your car you will be extremely pleased. The first coat always looks nice, but I find the second coat gives a big jump in appearance.

Ok...something very interesting and mildly upsetting happened! I wanted to take pics for you guys so the car been 3 days dirty now, I thought I would give it a quick detail for the pics using the Zymol detail spray that I bought now been comitted to Zymol...

I spray the damn thing on the hood and instead of bringing back the sparkles, it made the paint DULL!!!! Well not that dull, but I guess compared to the way the car looks after only one coat of the concours on, it certainly looks dull! So I took a few pics for you guys to see. My crappy camera does not do justice to the way the car looks, plus my lenz is dirty from what I can see, but I think you get the idea of comparing how the hood looks and how the rest of the car looks! Its so evident that its crazy! Its like the hood is painted a different color!

So what do you guys think? I stayed with Zymol not to mare the beautifull finish, but unless someone has some remedy on this, I will continue just wiping off dirt after I layer a few coats of the concours... Now I have to take it off the hood! :( Also note that I have not even touched the rest of the car...so its not really clean, I just thought you guys would see the difference as is...

Hmm I'm stumped. I will tell you this. On my Zymol finishes, I will only use a very mild touch up spritz like Sonus. I have had nothing but success with it. On just waxed surfaces you should only use an extremely mild qd, or atomized water, or nothing!! When I finish a Zymol session, I don't put anything on top of it (other than the final wipe down with mist water). I will wait at least a week (sometimes up to three depending on my build-up) before either adding another zymol layer or a touch up with an extremely mild carnauba spritz.



Have you had it outside yet? Sometimes the reflection will fool you too. I've had times when I've just waxed the car and it will be next to a blank surface and it will appear to be dull.....until I move the car....then pow!!



Zymol detail is more active than some carnauba friendly spritzes. I like to use that stuff for older waxed finishes such as what my daily driver's finish will go through. The first time that I used Zymol, I got carried away and accumulated a lot of layers, without using a qd in between every third or every other layer. During that winter, my waxed surface hazed up quite a bit (my cars do not get waxed during the winter). I used the Zymol Detail on the haze, and it cut the haze very nicely, bringing in a surprisingly sharper finish to my months old accumulation.



At any rate, examine your surface under better lighting. If you want to stay with the zymol, I do not recommend taking it off at this point. Wash your car, and it should recuperate completely with another Zymol session. The Detail (although it is stronger than some carnauba spritzes- right spelling?) isn't strong enough to totally undue your waxed surface. I've waxed over Zymol detail many times with success (on the daily). Going forward, do not use the Zymol Detail on your just waxed surface, just to be safe. Let us know how you fare out.



PS: The surface in those pics does not look bad at all, but I am taking your word for it that it may have compromised the Zymol finish you saw. I stress this very strongly, that you should NOT pair a zymol with anything, even other Zymols. You want a clear and consistent finish, not just greasy sheen..........even furniture polish can give you sheen. Just some tips for the future. Others have paired zymols with other lsps and have not necessarily had bad results (to be fair), but the zymol will only reflect what it is on top of, and if you have distortion coming from the results of another lsp, then you may not get the full range of color reproduction and depth of shine that the Zymol has potential of producing.....but that's just my opinion. Words for the wise..!
 
One other thing....Zymol Detail does have the tendency of hazing itself if it isn't worked off completely or for some reason your surface has moisture or residual water on it. Just checking.
 
Thanks Lester, I know you confirmed what I was afraid off. The wax is still young on the car and foolishly I did not let it cure completely. I should have realized that when I sprayed the Detail on it, as it was not really easy to take off. By comparison late last night, I sprayed my wife's Klasse waxed car out of curiosity and the detail produced really nice results. So it confirms what you are saying and what I thought as well after last night's session.

I checked the hood again this morning, it does look a bit better, I'm going to leave it alone and in a week I will layer another councours layer to be safe. While it does not look bad by any stretch of imagination, the difference is in the detail, the way the paint sparkles and the depth of it. While my camera does not do justice on the detail, its obvious the purple hues that the concours brought out! I have never seen these before!

At any rate thanks again, you of many people here were my motivation to try Zymol, now I'm waiting for the Glasur wax to arrive so I can attack my 911 :D I cant wait!!!
 
That goes to show you the big difference between a Zymol and some other products. The Detail (I actually like this qd a lot) while it can help older waxed surfaces, pales in comparison (inferior to) a fresh Concours finish, which probably contributed to the dullness you saw initially. I am glad that we have one more person that has discovered the virtues of an EGZymol. It is easy to dismiss Zymol because of their prices, and there was once a time where I wouldn't give a Zymol the time of day.



Concours' performance stood out so much more than many of the other lsp products that I've used before, thus the price argument went right out of the mix. The goal is the best result that you can achieve.



Post more pics whenever you get the chance; and I'm dying to see both the concours on the benz and the Glasur on your Porsche!!
 
Please post your impressions on the Glasur wax. I'd be very interested in it. Thanks.



Will you use Glasur with HD-Cleanse or some other final polish?
 
I don't own a Porsche, but I would love to hear if you think there is a difference between the Glasur and the Concours.
