I just think that if folks quit all the mud slinging over products they haven't even tried and keep an open mind to things then this forum will become a much better environment. Just use whatever products make you happy and enjoy.
Great post pat.
Remember my thread on keeping an open mind, some here have closed minds and thus can miss out on a great number of killer products. You gotta keep moving forward.
Thanks SL for this thread, while a truce would be nice, I don't think it's going to happen
I value every word you type my fellow autopian.
As long as people post their honest opinions/reviews of a product and back it up with a good pic of the result, then all should be dandy.
Thanks to you all, I have found and use a heap of products we talk about every day and I hope that in my time here, I have not stated that a particular brand is better than this one or is the best. prima swirl for instance may be better than menzerna for tough swirl removal on one vehicle but menzerna beats prima on another one.
So I just stock every great brand I can. My goal is to not say this brand is king
If one is, it won't always be.
As it states in the bible (basic instructions before leaving earth) a king lasted so many decades in israel then another replaced him and was better than whom he replaced.
Since 02, I have bought and tested over sixty five brands of products and only two brands failed the test. I test every product on every surface of a car (got plenty of guinea pigs in my shop) and find a way to use them. I continue to develop new techniques such as machine polishing of exterior trims with heat reactive non abrasive products I've formulated.
Once I have found a product that does a better job than what I was using, the old one gets used up and never purchased again or used for one or two different surfaces. Clearkote is one example that no longer gets used on paint but still is a vital product on other surfaces.
A few years ago I added some honest reviews of products on another forum and the members thought every one of them was biased because I sold products at that time
Many of the reviews were of products I did not sell as others had the distribution rights.
Just because I did then and will do so in the future does not mean that my reviews are biased and purely to sell product.
I add reviews and my opinion of products so that fellow members knowledge of detailing will grow higher.
Here's what I use these few products for and why they are so good in my hands.
Prima - polishes are great for deep cleansing and polishing of paint for fresh off the gun appearance. Can be used with any pad, wool or foam from black edge to blue LC
- swirl is fantastic on cleared and SS reds and able to give a clarity that is amazing from a 1500 grit polish
- Hydro - fast, hides holograms, gives windows a great wet look.
Menzerna - My favourite polishes. IP 91L and 85RD are so versatile and if your in a hurry, can use with a orange or white pad and have the surface LSP ready.
- 106FF is the answer to light and heavily swirled subaru WRX vehicles (soft paint)
Aussie Gold - showroom glaze. in my eyes the world's best quick detailer, spray sealant and window cleaner and polish
- this liquid product's ability to extend working time of polishes, stop polish from dusting, remove light swirls, soften microfibre, make paint slicker than any other QD on the planet , remove white stains on exterior trims and side mirror plastics (from bad shampoo's) with just a spray and wipe, be used by machine to enhance depth of clearcoat and colour richness without removing any paint and last six months on it's own makes it the best product I've ever bought.
Carlack 68 - plastic care is my favourite for prepping tyres for sonus and wolfgang tire gels (for longer durability) , polishing and protecting some unpolishable textured trims and give a satin finish with a dry touch on interiors.
Sonus - SFX range of polishes do the job on painted plastic and when the others don't work on a particular vehicle. I've added glycerin to version 1 SFX polishes for longer working time as version 1 SFX 2 and SFX 3 are better sometimes than Version 2
- SFX 3can be used on unpainted urethane exterior trims in combination with trim dream for more gloss than with trim dream on it's own
- DAS PADS. The old flat pads and the swirlbuster orange are sensational pads that for some reason spread the polishes better than the flat lake country's
Duragloss - 601 PBA. Miracle in a bottle. I use it to lubricate dry paint which the machine doesn't want to glide across. Enhances colour richness of paint. In combination with driven to perfection polish and four star paint cleanser by hand, the results after machine polishing of paint can be awesome on many cars. It also gets applied to paint by machine before some polishes so that
