a.k.a. Troy@DetailCity
Looks like they were looking for the Mayor and found out that Autopia was sold.

Where's DavidB - Autopia.org

I wonder what that means for future of Autopia. If any of you know Autopians that are looking for a new home where all pro and do it yourself detailers are welcome, tell them to come over to Detail City.

Everybody knows that only city's have mayors anyway!

Granted there is a transition going on over at Autopia. However, that doesn't mean the forum is not going to exist.

I wouldn't look for to many changes.

If the new owner does not change the rules, I assume it will all be just wasted discussion about the fate. Of course some want it to stay the way it is and others may not (competing forums). We shall see.

Oh yeah... Autopia. I remember them. :) I just logged in and it said my last visit was October of '08. lol I remember when I used to live there.

I wish the new owner well. While not much may change over there, I really hope for the sake of the community that they take the opportunity to really shake it up and make some changes.

What I recalled of Autopia was that some of the memebers where bad mouthing DC, when I was starting to post there. It was based on that, that I decided not to post there any longer. I can find good and bad on any site but don't have to point it out

It needs something new over there. Seems like it is going stale and I posted such on that site.

Hilarious.

Yeah, it is pretty funny how it was sold it May of 2009 and everyone is crapping their pants about it 9 months after the fact. I just keep waiting for someone to start a Zaino pissing contest in that thread and it will be complete and an Autopia original.

You nailed it! Even after one member and a moderator tried to inject some calm and reason into the conversation, at least of couple of members remain intent in their purpose to blow things up.

Looks like I blew it on the Zaino "mine is bigger than yours" contest - it appears the relabeling dead horse was brought up first. I had a 50/50 chance.....

Seriously, there is a lot of knowledgeable people over there, and since no one detected a change since May I don't think it's really that big a deal.

I agree that from what I read on that site there are quite a few good detailers there. However from what I recall some had not so good comments about DC, like it should matter really

:rofl on point 1

:bigups on point 2

There are two massive issues with the member base of Autopia right now.

1. Objectivity is pretty much out the window with most of the senior posters. There are a few that are able to keep it together, but too many of them are "my product is better than your product" type attitudes. It is hard to take any advice seriously from someone who is frothing at the mouth.

2. Witch Hunts are the done thing over there. As if it matters who made the product that is in the bottle. Do you like it or don't you? It shouldn't matter that it is made by a company that makes products for everybody. It is like they just look for reason to create drama and discontent. There is a very contentious spirit over there that I just couldn't stand any longer. The second objectivity and new ideas are met with spite and contempt, that is the same second you'll find me packing my bags.

Autopia used to be a great place. If you read it on Autopia then it was considered the gospel of detailing. I absolutely loved it when it was like that. Once David opened his store it seemed like he started bowing to particular members more than others. That was when it started to fall apart. There are still great members over there and lots of great information, but it would be too hard for anyone to wade through the crap to get at it. I would love to see Autopia make up its mind about what kind of board it wants to be. It either needs to be entirely objective like Detail City, or it needs to be sponsor specific like the Autogeek forums where you only discuss Autogeek sponsor products. Both are terrific models, but Autopia seems to be trying to have it both ways. Be objective, but if it objective about a product we don't like, then you can't talk about it. Well, you can, but don't expect any courtesy from the bullies. That is just my honest observations about a site I like to think I helped build.

lol The other thing I think is funny is that if you go to the link with DavidB's resume, he has half a dozen other blogs linked on the left side. They are all just basic templates and haven't been created yet. I'm sorry, but that is just typical David. You don't publish links to sites you haven't finished building yet. Especially on a page with your resume citing your professional web savvy-ness. lol Clearly the man has been busy if he has been unable to finish those projects, so they should all just put their torches and pitchforks away. Then again... this is Autopia we are talking about and they love a good conspiracy. (even if there isn't one)

Pretty funny from someone that used to be a moderator over there. I would expect nothing less from someone that fell from grace...:bow

Seriously? That is your comment? Man, I respected you before you said that. However, you have also proven my point about the attitude over at Autopia. If their moderators lurk on DetailCity so they can take shots at members who don't like Autopia anymore, then that validate my points exactly.

A forum's tone is dominated by the personalities that are involved in the discussion. It can change over time just due to turnover of the active members. Moderation rules can obviously play a roll but I do not see over moderation as an issue at Autopia. Some bannings were well deserved or understood yet a one or two where it was not clear.
