Need wax recommendation

Hi, I'm not a detailer and to be honest I'm not really concerned with getting a nice shine or any of that. All i care about is finding an over the counter cheap wax that will last a fairly long time. Don't care if the look is minimal at all. This car has to be parked under a tree where it gets slammed with sap and bird crap excessively. So all just want something cheap and lasting so i don't have to wash the thing every week.

Nothing is going to stop you from having to wash all the time. All a good wax/sealant will do is make it easier to remove. Don't want to wash it every week, don't park it under a tree.

That being said, you may want to forget about OTC and just get yourself a bottle of something like collonite 845. Many people rave about its durability. Haven't used it myself so I'm just going off of what I've read. Order yourself one bottle and you'll be set for years

FK1000P "self-cleans in the rain" or when hosed down, well enough to make washing a far less frequent necessity IME. But it's not OTC.

Collinite's waxes would be the closest OTC, and "OTC" is kinda relative in this context as it's not the easiest stuff to find in bricks-and-morter shops. For this application I'd go with either 845 or 476S.

The FK is *great* against etching, the Collinite is pretty good.

I don't want to cover it, i can't park elsewhere, and i know nothing will protect it more than a bit, especially cheap OTC car wax. But thats fine. I just wanna know what cheap OTC wax will work *longest*. Not great, not necessarily even good. Just best compared to all other cheap OTC waxes. Theres a cheap standout in every product line no matter what it is we're talking about. I just wanna know if there is one as cheap OTC wax goes.

I would say give Meguiars ultimate liquid wax a shot. That's probably about what you're looking for. In terms of OTC I wouldn't say too much really stands out. I know a lot of us here also don't really reach for OTC stuff too often for an LSP. So getting a good first hand opinion of what's available may be tough here. Honestly, you could probably get away with buying yourself a bottle of Nu Finish and just rolling with that, as it sounds like you're not too picky about looks or the benefits of the higher $$ waxes/sealants. Under the conditions you describe, with OTC waxes/sealants, I wouldn't really expect more than about a month tops before having to reapply anyway. So don't really over think it

I have used Finish Kare fk1000p and it is an good long lasting wax. Not OTC though or at least not sure where one could buy it OTC. Try going to a local auto store and see if they can order it or go to Amazon. If that is not an option i am a former user of NuFinish and that would be my go to OTC product. It is more user friendly then fk1000p. Even though Nufinish says it is once a year I always aplied it early spring and late fall.

845 isn't as durable as the 476 aka fleet wax though.

Before i ask, please don't bother recommending another wax. Been there done that and i absolutely love this stuff and won't change. But i do have a question about it. I read in a review where someone said they love the paste but have heard (tho not yet tried) the liquid version is even better. I find that odd, but if true i'd be willing to try it. Anyone have thoughts on that?

NXT no longer making the grade?

Thats what i was using for my BIKE, which i DO want killer shine for. My car i couldn't give a flying ____ how it looks as long as the paint isn't actually falling apart. Thought ya had me huh?

No, not at all. Just seemed you had something that was working for you. If you found something you like hold on to it. It doesn't care whether it's on a bike or a car.

Yeah, but the point is i don't care about looks on my car and NXT doesn't seem to last long and is expensive.

Does the OP just *wash* the vehicle in question or does he/she clay also (not going to ask about polishing.)

If the OP includes claying... I would say Meg's UPW. If no clay... Nu Finish or Mother's Synthetic for OTC stuff.

If NXT is too expensive to use on the car then fk1000p probably is also at $17 a tin plus shipping along with some of the other suggested. I would then suggest Nufinish. I have not used the paste and would suggest trying to fing the liquid. Put it on thin and it was easy to remove. I think I seen the bottle around $10 maybe less.

Is the liquid as lasting as the paste? I would rather go that route if so, otherwise the paste. And yes, i have a clay bar and plan on doing that first.
