Need wax recommendation

Is the liquid as lasting as the paste? I would rather go that route if so, otherwise the paste. And yes, i have a clay bar and plan on doing that first.

I guess I never used the paste so can't say how the ease of use is. I used the liquid and applied a coat in the spring and in the fall. I can't say that a person would get a year out of it as the bottle states. Years ago when it first came out my car sat outside and there wasn't much protection left after 6 months which is why I put it on twice a year. I liked it because it comes off easy. With it being an easy on and easy removal waxing a car didn't take long.

Do people like nufinish?

Sure! I think a lot of the more expensive waxes and sealants are just hype(I am sure I just offended someone with that statement). The reason I say that is because I have bought into the idea there must be something better hype after joining this site. Of course I bought BFCS, BFAFPP, BFCS, UPGP, BFMS and FK1000p. Out of all of them the only one worth the money was the FK1000p and that one was cheap, although the UPGP was free. As far as protection goes the Nufinish, in my book, is better then pretty much all of them, except the FK1000p, and costs way less. The Blackfire products I have and used they only seem to last about 2 to 3 months. The Fk1000p I seem to get about 5 to 6 months of harsh winter protection, although not much protection left after 5 months of salt and snow. The Nufinish I got a little less time out of then the Fk1000p but not by much. This is just my opinion and if any of you have found something better more power to you. I kind of wish I would have just stuck with what worked, I would have a few hundred dollars more in my pocket and wouldn't be sitting on 2 lifetime supplies of products that in a fews years will end up in the trash.

skibik- That was an interesting comparison you made, between New Finish and FK1000P.

How many coats of FK1000P were you using to get the 5-6 months?

As for cost, I can't even begin to calculate how many years a tin of FK1000P would last the average person...well over a decade easily. I get many years out of a tin of most any remotely durable wax (a decade isn't unusual) and my FK1000P will last longer than, say.... a tin of Collinite 476S.

Wow, i gotta say i'm impressed. I thought because nu finish was one of those TV commercial waxes you'd always see it was probably hype. But i just did the WHOLE car ! Took me about 15 min to clay it and wax took all of maybe 30 ! But thats not the amazing thing....i think the finish feels slicker than anything i've used. Feels like it will last. Of course i can't gauge it from that, but it really does feel and look as good as most anything i've used. I may ever try this on the bike, and that i AM anal about and will only use the best i can find. But i honestly can't say this isn't. We'll see how it last but i am impressed.. I read a lot of reviews and many people cited having used all sorts of high end stuff only to they liked nu finish better. On guy said he researched it and found it's supposed to be 100 times harder than carnuba or something along those lines.

Anyways, i surely don't expect the 1 year claim or even remotely close. But if it lasts the rest of the summer till that god forsaken tree stops dropping sap on it i'll be happy. By the way, anyone have opinions on the directions that say apply again in 60 days? Why 60 days? Does it take that long to cure and another coat would remove the first so you have to wait till it cures or what? I have no problem with that, as it's stupid easy to apply and wipe off, but just curious.

EDIT: just tried it on my bike. Not impressed.......utterly blown away. seriously. I'm scratching my head bald over this one. No one ever mentions it on forums like this, but nothing i have used looks like this or feels like it. My bike literally looks different enough that i could easily pick it out over my bike with any other wax i've used. It glows incredibly. Looks like i poured honey over it. I think a lot of you guys just don't want a cheap OTC wax that works so good because it would invalidate your boutique product mindset. Not trying to be offensive, but seriously.....how can this product be so under the radar by those who do it for a living or are fanatical detailers? i don't get it. All i know is i have found my product. Unless this stuff wears away so fast it's stupid it will be my go to product from now on for both car AND the bike i am so fanatical about ! Thanks to those who mentioned it. I had no expectations other than protecting against the elements, and i sure as H didn't expect anything like this ! maybe i should start paying more attention to those Ktel sorta commercials ! :)

Try to get 2 coats on a day apart. I use my GG6 with a red GG pad and work it in good. Before you ask how did I use a machine to put a pastewax on here is the answer. I cut a piece of plastic out of an ice cream pail lid in the shape of a knife (I didn't have a platic knife on hand and wasn't going to use a good butter knife) lightly scrape it in the tin like you would scrape up hard butter and smear it on the pad in about 3 spots like smearing butter on bread. I might be putting on a little heavy but I may have used about a third of the tin in 3 winters.

skibik- Thanks for clarifying the two coats. I probably have more but it's hard to compare given that I apply at almost random intervals.

Yikes, a third of a can?!? I use a tiny fraction of that amount and I'm doing a few big vehicles!

Maybe try using your wax-spreader to scrape as much (excess) product out of the pad before applying to the vehicle. Less is always better IMO as long as you get uniform coverage, I go so thin you can't really see it haze on some paints.

We apply to the pad differently though, you use a few spots and I prime pretty much the whole pad. Not sure if that would make for any differing experiences or not.

Yeah, I do pastes by machine too, but not with the FK1000P (yet). It just doesn't strike me as a product I'd get on thin as I can by hand (same goes for KSG and UPP).

Those Red GG pads last forever, let alone if you only LSP with them.

FK1000P "self-cleans in the rain" or when hosed down, well enough to make washing a far less frequent necessity IME. But it's not OTC.

Collinite's waxes would be the closest OTC, and "OTC" is kinda relative in this context as it's not the easiest stuff to find in bricks-and-morter shops. For this application I'd go with either 845 or 476S.

The FK is *great* against etching, the Collinite is pretty good.

Accum....love this product as well as the Fk2180.

Street5927- Ah, glad you like it. I never did get around to trying the FK2180.

EdLancer- Heh heh, I oughta sell my 476S and M16 to a guy like you who still appreciates them :D

Do people like nufinish?

The last time used the liquid and paste was back in 1984 ...LoL
If I recall it leaves a white residue and smell like mineral spirits.
Back then it was all by hand, so no experience on how it performs with a DA or rotary.

I tell people that have gotten a bottle or tin of 845IW or 476S from me that it should last them at least 40 years if they wax their car twice a year and they look at me with a surprising stare. The ones that come back for a new bottle every 3 months I tell them they are doing something wrong. I only wax my own car once a year with 845IW, so it should last me 80 years ! ...LoL

I guess I use too much 845 because I did 4 cars and went trough 1/3 of the bottle. Came off the cars easily and still holding up great months later.

I found the 845 bottle tends to pour out all of the sudden. I've been having a hard time finding good squeeze bottles locally. I bought some condiment bottles but when I went to squeeze one the top popped off and way too much soap went into the bucket...

On the other hand, hard wax's like Midnight Sun and FK1000-P will last me a lifetime.

EdLancer- Yeah, you and I are on the same page there! I get well over a decade out of *so* many LSPs while others seem to go through a [container] in no time (usually while complaining about how hard the thick applications are to buff off ;) ).

[Dagnabit] I really oughta put some of my stuff up for sale though..I'm simply never gonna use it.

Just replace the standard cap on the 845IW bottle with a lever cap. I can give you one if you`re in MTL ;)
Try Consolidated Bottles in the West Island, they have a walk in cash&carry store inside.
