Zymol Concours vs. Natty's Blue!

Maxi:

Great going on trying out Concours. You may find out later, but Zymol's real talent doesn't lie in its shine or slickness. Zymol creates extremely sharp reflected images and has a very wide color reproduction range. Most lsp's can generate a shine, and some have "wetness" qualities as well. But very few seem to have a combination of sheen, refinement in reflectivity and depth, etc. without combining other products. That to me was the overwhelming difference in the EGZymol vs. a few other products.

Alright,

I'm out of my mind. Or I had too much to drink last night (really it's both).

But I ordered the Concours and HD Cleanse last night. They are out of stock on the sampler kit, so ... whatcha gonna do? Spend $200 on wax? I'm really looking for the best possible look on my super-finished S2000, which is more and more becoming a garage queen.

If I'm disappointed, I'm coming after you guys, lbls and MikeyC (regardless of my feelings I think my wife is coming after you) ;)

Well, I hope you like it because I don't want to have to tussle with your wife. :bat

Once you get your Concours and like it (oh trust me you will ;) ) you, me, and Strauss need to start converting all the S2000 owners from Zaino

to Zymol :bigups . Seriously though, nothing against Zaino I just don't like the way it looks. It's a pure personal preference thing.

Yaknow, I went ahead and tried some Zaino again (ZFX'd Z2Pro x3) on the wetsanded areas of my car and didn't really care for it. It looked fine, but it wasn't anything "special"... The other thing that I'd forgotten about is how STRONG the chemical smell is with Zaino compared to other products I'm used to using now. It's still a great sealant, I'll still use it on friends and customer's cars (whenever I do those again!) but I'm obviously looking for something above and beyond that for my own car.

I was hoping my Concours would come today, but I never saw the UPS man. I was about to go to bed and I saw a package stuffed up in the front of the garage... Aha!? Indeed, it did come today and I just didn't see it!

Well, I couldn't go to bed NOW, could I? I opened up the package, smelled the Concours (cloves and cinnamon? vanilla? musky?) and went to work on part of my front fender, cleaning first with some QuikShine and a monster fluffy (it's very clean already). I applied some HD Cleanse (brown, with a chocolate scent - they seem to have replaced regular with Pro!) in sections... That stuff is stubborn!

I eventually got the area buffed up and pulled a little tiny bit of wax out of the jar, spreading it over the fender... This stuff just spreads and spreads! I tried hand application with Souveran and man was that ever painful (physically hurt my skin and it just didn't "work"). Did a couple of partial buffs and a final buff with a nice Excel plushy blue towel. Now, I can't really say in a dim garage that's it's way way better than sliced bread, but I'm willing to give it a chance and apply a few coats. It certainly did look good, though. :)

My hands smell wonderful, too. I suppose I should wash them.

Someone's going to wonder what the red silk bag in the fridge is tomorrow morning :D

Honestly, this thread is the first time I've ever heard of HD-Cleanse Pro. I've bought HD-Cleanse that came in a white bottle and one in a clear bottle. They both seemed the same to me except the clear bottle was smaller. However, Zymol clearly does not list all their products on their website. For instance, the $7,000+ wax used by that the British guy everyone was talking about last month is not listed on there.

As far as HD-Cleanse being tough to remove . . . I would say it can be a little difficult. I usually use a 100% cotton terry towel to get it off. I find cotton towels have a little more "bite" as compared to MF.

I keep my wax in the fridge too. :getdown According to what I've been told by Zymol their wax has an indefinite shelf life when refridgerated. :2thumbs:

As far as sealants go, I use them on other people's cars. I save the good stuff for my baby. Of course, part of it is durability is a MUCH bigger piece of the equation when it's someone else's car. ;)

Sonus Glanz is a sealant in diluted formula. "Sonus Acrylic Glanz uses the purest form of acrylic polymer sealant"

One of my personal favorites to use....just as a sweetener, is to apply Sonus Acrylic Glanz on top of the polish b4 moving onto Concours. I use the glanz as an alternative to a sealant, as it is a super thin coating that will not distort the surface of the paint finish, and it equalizes any residual light hazing, while adding a hint of gloss. Concours is powerful, but a little paint sweetener is always nice.

This is not sold to the public directly from Zymol. You must buy it from a dealer. This is what I got from Diane at Zymol. Seems silly not to sell it. If you want HD Pro do a search for Zymol and find a dealer.

Oh man lose cable access for one day and look...(for non payment of the bill....guess where that money went haha!!)

Ok give me a minute to catch up!

I agree and maybe disagree with that. Why....(yes why??) Ok I know. Yes in a way it acts like a sealant because it coats, like I mentioned earlier. But this stuff is Super Thin...it will not protect the paint from the weather or the elements. I looked at it as a dressing before the main course. It didn't distort the surface to any measurable degree, unlike a typical sealant, thus I found it acceptable to use with my EGZymols. I liked it because it settled the polished suface, bringing everything to order b4 the wax. I also liked it because it contained no wax, and my goal was to isolate the polish phases from the wax phase as completely as possible. Thus, you won't see any carnauba spritz or sealant/waxes or cleaner waxes in my routine with laying down the first coats of the Zymols (if that makes any sense....).

My apologies if I confused anyone above about the HD Cleanse Pro. I realize now that it isn't available to the public. I liked using it though, as it still performed as a chemical paint cleaner, however it did put in an extra effort in warming up the paint surface with the buffer during the preparation for the real polish.

OK, did anyone get around to trying out Concours in my absence???? I am waiting for the following: Animes2K, Accumulator, Bioman.......c'mon fess up.

Animes2k, I know how you felt when you went back to Zaino. Its always good to have a large amount of paint cleaner on hand!! haha.

How long to wait between coats?

If you are putting them on for the first time, wait 12 hrs to a day b4 putting on the second layer. Of course, you can put two on the paint back to back, but I've found the EGZymols to have a bit more punch if you let them sit awhile before layering.

Take your time with the Zymol coats!! You may see later, that by the 4th or 5th layer, you will literally have depth of shine all over the place. The key is balance, as the goal is true color reproduction and depth of shine, good reflection fidelity, and ....nice smelling paint and hands!

I'm seriously considering trying it on the XJS and/or the RX-7, but both are a long way from LSPing...especially the Jag, which needs a little paintwork that'll have to cure. The only thing I'm wondering about is whether the residual marring will show too much. Using enough glaze to hide it would probably compromise the supposed advantages of the Zymol :nixweiss

No, no, life's too short to use it on the S8 or the minivan, and those are the only ones that're truly marring-free.

Use HD in a clear bottle brown, Hard to get off!! Then hand applied Con. I am to tired to go out in the garage and see what it looks like. I called Zymol and they said it must be applied by hand. Took me two hours 90 degrees.........I'm restin'

Yeah, the HD-Cleanse can definitely be a little bit of a PITA to get off. I apply it with a terry cloth applicator and then apply my wax bare handed. For removal I use a 100% cotton towel for the HD-Cleanse and a MF towel for the wax.

So, HD-Cleanse and wax took you two hours? Seems a little long for such a small car like an RX-8.

Take your time.....I can wait lol!!! I still say go for it! Do not make any unnecessary steps to correct the marring if you think it will harm your paint. Zymol is phenomenal witih prepped surfaces, but it was formulated to work with basic hand prepping. I would use the hd cleanse via hand, and then the Concours. That is how I started, and it blew away what I was using before it. Different strokes...eh corny but you know what I mean :tumblewee

PS: Not to contradict Zymol (far from it), but I had no problems applying hd cleanse via pc. I thought it worked great that way. I wiped the left over residue off via hand though once I finished working it in. The haze off could be worked via machine too.

Just the wax took me two hours. RX8 has a lot of nooks and cranies plus this is my first "hand" application. Wish you could spit shine the wax. Then I bet it would look totaly awesome.

I'm new here, and it's good to finally find a thread that praises Zymol. I find Zymol gets unfairly bashed on this forum evidently due to the high price tag. I use HD Cleanse followed by Vintage on my Benzes. I find that hand application has some advantages, for instance since you literally feel every square inch of the paint you can quickly identify and deal with defects before they turn into big problems. And I will say that when I am done, it looks like the paint is dripping off the car. People always stop me and compliment the paint on my 300E, then they are shocked when I tell them it is 15 years old.

It takes two hours for me. I don't rush.

You can certainly "spit" shine, however. Mist the surface right after the last buff, and with a finishing mf, slowly go over the surface.............perfection. Use straight water though, no mixes!

Well, I may be insane, but I applied a coat to my car today, too. It looks very nice, I must say. It took me about 2 hours as well to HD cleanse and apply and remove the wax.

How much is too much? How much is too little? How far should I be trying to spread this stuff out? I found buffing to be a little tedious, going over once or twice to bust it up and go back with a final buff. I feel like I was probably applying too much...

I hope to get 5-7 coats on by next weekend.

Ok, as for the crazy part - I spent 6 hours detailing my client's 6 month old 745Li... MAN, that's a big car (106/RMG/rotary, AIO/PC, P21S/hand). Then I came home to a box of Duragloss products and had to try those out so washed my dad's Acura TL with the Duragloss soap in the foam gun and dried with the Duragloss Aquawax, THEN I went at it with the Concours. Felt like punishing myself today I guess.
