I bit the bullet! Cwcad was nice enough to send me the zaino lineup to try on my car. I was super happy with my fk1 lineup but he insisted I try it. I went into this detail not expecting much. I got alot of advice from cwcad and from the zaino site and looking at threads on dc.

THOUGHTS ON ZAINO:

Overall I wasnt thrilled. The zaino system isnt hard at all but it was pretty time consuming. I dont like spending so much time on LSP's. I am used to layering fk1 #2180 and pink wax in half an hour. The surface was decently slick contrary to some reviews I have read. the application although tedious and long was not unbearable. You get into the zone with application eventually. I was able to get 3 coats onto my car with a hair less than 1 oz of z5 and z2pro.

My biggest complaint about zaino is its lack of depth. I am used to seeing an extra layer of clearcoat when i finish a detail and used to having dripping wet paint. The zaino was just a little 2-D for me.

Now for the good stuff. Zaino gives off some really crisp clear reflections. I like how everything was reflected so crisply, but I didnt enjoy the super bright paint. If zaino could combine the crystal reflection with dripping wet, i would love it. I will try topping it.. who knows?

Comments welcome and please ask as many questions as you want, or give me advice.

HUGE THANKS TO CWCAD!!!!

Greg

It's not for everyone :).

Some like the look, some don't. Great write-up...I hope you keep it on long-enough to see some durability attributes.

I plan on leaving it on until spring. Sean do you ever top it?

Thanks for the review!!
about it being so much work all those layers and wipedowns in betwen arent required just because you can put so many layers in one day you dont have to

Hmmm, a couple of things...you don't need to put on more than one layer to be effective...you should get better gloss with ZFX added in....and it only takes me as long as any other product in my arsenal. I spend about 30 minutes putting Z-2 Pro on my car. The depth matches what I am getting with AIO+Souveran.

If you want to add layers I would just do 2-3..I'm not sure there is benefit from more. You will see the tremendous durability over time. If you can use Z-8 that helps as well after future washes.

to clarity, I did have zfx in all the layers. Sorry.

Call me crazy but in the pics the red is brighter and it has a nice wet look the two things i noticed before i was done reading your post. All said i wish we had some of the other pics with the FK1 to do a side by side comparison. As with all your work Greg you have done another fine job,if i only had all your energy.

P.S. Greg your PM box is full.

Well congratulations! It really looks like you put the effort into the prep that was stressed when you and I talked about this detail. Believe me I wanted to find something. Did not. That is a tribute to you and your word.

In looking at the pictures I see shine and clarity. As Sean mentioned I hope that you keep it on long enough to observe the durability and longevity of this product.

Don't forget to do another Z8 tomorrow.

Okay. You should be able to get the same depth as a carnauba. It took me two applications before I had the Zaino technique down. One of the keys is to put the thinnest possible layer down.

I was pretty good on the thin layers. I asked cwcad after my first app of z5. what if i put it so thin I can hardly see it? haha. my last coat was a little thick but the z8 cleaned up the leftovers haha.

Looking great Greg.

You don't have to defend your opinion on Zaino. The bright, plastic-like shine isn't for everyone. For some reason, Zaino users don't like to hear that it wasn't the best experience you've ever had, and that there must have been something wrong with your technique, even though you described and performed it's application perfectly.

None the less, it looks great and thanks for a solid write up. I get a kick out of the Cavi when I see it! I don't think I've ever seen one as perfect looking as yours!

Lookin good, Greg. Very sharp. With a car that looks that good it almost makes you want to paint the exhaust or something so it doesn't detract from the car. Your work is flawless, but mother nature is kicking your muffler's butt.

Nice write up Greg. I thought that I went over board on Z when I tried it.

Good God man, you went to town!
:hail

I love the 6th shot. Looks like new!

I'm pretty sure that I like the look of FK #218/425 on my silver STS over Z, but need to do a few side by sides to compare. On black, Z blows away anything that I've ever used/seen (IMO). Z seems to really stand out on dark colors, at least it has the 4 or so times that I've used it.

Post some shots if you top it. I'm curious to see how it turns out (compared to other sealers that you top with a carnuba).

Ya i know! I have tried polishing it but then it just looks like a clean crappy muffler. I will have to pressure wash that next time haha.

Thanks! I will give just the zaino a shot and see if it grows on me. I will top it probably in a month or so, if the plain zaino isnt doing it for me.

Greg

Just some advice don't top it with anything unless you want to undo everything you just did if you top it with a canuba wax you nolonger can layer Zanio imo theres no reason to top it you won't see any difference with Z2PRO if you were using Z2 yes there would be a difference. As far as Z2PRO vs Z5 I perfer Z5 over Z2PRO it gives my red mustang a warmer look. I have been a Zaino user for about a year and have close to 40 coats on my Stang.
