Your own car = satisfaction...

I was applying some Rain-X to the windows of the Explorer today, and I decided to wash the car. The Klasse is sheeting again. :( So I guess that flushes our theory of thicker is better right town the drain. This Klasse thing is really starting to get on my nerves. I have to go out and dry the car now, I will post more details later.

Some car shampoos cause water to sheet. I know when I used my Wesleys Car Shampoo(shame on me) it caused the water to sheet off. But after a day the water beaded again. I think some shampoos tend to leave a film causing this. You may want to try a test on this. Try wiping your car with a wet towel or use a QD and see if it starts beading again.

waxman,

I use the same wash as I do on all my cars. The water beads on my other cars with the same wash, just not the Explorer.

Here are some more details DK,

There has been NO change is gloss, smoothness or reflectivity. The water is sheeting and not beading. It is sheeting on all pannels of the car, not just certian ones. The only thing I can figure is that the Klasse has weathered, and now it sheets. The top layer is not that old, maybe 2-3 weeks. This is getting to be annoying, maybe it is time to switch the Explorer over to Zaino.

waxman,

No they are not all Ford. Here is what I have Klasse on:

1997 Ford Explorer (Dark Green) Does not bead anymore

1992 Jaguar XJ6 (Oyster) Beads on some pannels, not on others

1995 Lincoln Town Car (Silver) Beads, but it has a Blitz topper

2001 Toyota Avalon (Steel Gray) Beads, but car is new. New clearcoat will bead.

That, i know, because I tried to get them and all I got was a nasty email.

Anyhow, I just don't know. This weekend I will for sure try another coat of SG on my dad's car and test., but it's looking like KLASSE does not have the 6-9 month durability it says in all circumstances. Thanks, and I will keep u posted.

ps...U did wash with dawn....maybe dawn does strip it or weaken it.

DETAILKING,

I dawn washed the hood before as part of our tests. But, the sides of the car are also sheeting now, and I did NOT wash them with dawn. The Klasse must start to sheet after it has been exposed to the elements.

curious as to if you used MT's to dry your cars in your long term tests? (MT's may help the beading effect on windows, might be Klasse coaminated towels, but not everyone has new towels all the time)

I also know that AIO on glass (used in the tiniest amount) it will bead.

Steve,

I use an Absorber and cotton towels to dry the car. I never use these particular towels for any other job, just drying the car. I dont know what the problem with Klasse is, but many are starting to have the same problem that DETAILKING and I are having.

I work in the coating industry and often when we have a problem with our topcoats. Sometimes we will resort to a more consistent coating as a base coat.

In this case, I think glass may provide you with some clues. Has anyone tried Klassing a rear windshield and then doing the water beading test? You might isolate the Klasse better by keeping it on a more consistent harder surface. (just a thought, though)

another thing is I always see nice pics from Tim and he uses Klasse only (if i'm not mistaken), what kind of beading does he get?

I think that beading is a poor and old-fashioned way of measuring protection. FYI, I do not have the same problem.

Didn't Ron K ages ago say that beading is not a good mark of whether a surface is protected?

We all see the "conclusions" that Showroomlincoln and waxman are coming to. Why not just use Zaino if you're not happy with Klasse instead of all this drama?

We are frustrated. Some people claim Klasse beads for months and months. Showroomlincoln experiences both (beading and sheeting), and I experience only sheeting on my test car. Others in the last post experienced sheeting as well unless a blitz topper was used. We are just trying to figure out why.

Isn't Klasse really just like a clear coat? Aren't clear coats polymers or acrylics themselves? Cars with clear coats don't usually bead well do they? Maybe Klasse beads at first before it dries or cures because of the other chemicals or oils in there that let you spread it out on your car. Maybe once it is fully cured it no longer beads. And for those cars that do bead for a long time, maybe they are spraying QD's that contain carnauba wax or silicone oil on them.

As they weather and age, they stop. Klasse slickness does not seem to diminish, but in my opinion, it does not offer much improved slickness over a bare clearcoat. QD really helps with the slickness.

Let me make this crystal clear, we are not bashing Klasse. We are simply stating our experiences with the product thus far. DETAILKING and I have been trying to find a solution to the sheeting vs. beadling problem for some time. We are not trying to create "drama", we want to find out why the product is doing this so we can help others who have the same problem.
