Danlc95 - Correct ! The old Lake Country Hydro-Shreds - Cyan (Blue) - my primary pad for about everything..
Dan F

Lol!

I love those things!

Yeah, the Cyans wear out a little quicker, but they feel, and perform so beautifully. I also love only have the three color options. I also love green, blue and red Hex pads, but the Hydros are the best.

Hard to believe they`re old now. Heck, the CCS turns 10 this fall!

This is too funny ! :)
Yeah, I have stacks of them.. :)

We should get I  Hydro-Shreds T-Shirts from Lake Country for this ! :)

They can do anything I need them to do and still finish down beautifully..

Recently went over my entire Black Crystal Pearl Metallic Grand Cherokee with about 8 - 5.25" Tangerine pads, Optimum Finish with my Makita and it turned out beautiful...
I removed the old 4+ year Optimum Opti-Guard Coating I installed late 2011, and re-coated it with a new syringe of Optimum 2.0 that I purchased in 2013..
This Syringe was still very clear and it turned out beautiful, all over again...

The Tangerine pads with downward pressure worked out all the little defects really well, and the clarity and gloss - well you know what I am talking about.. :)
These Tangerine Hydro`s worked perfectly, never gave me a problem, I wanted to use a lot of them so I could get the best results from using clean pads all the time, and I did..

It should be about cured now so I am going to give it its first wash with Carpro Reset and take a few pics..
Dan F

I have even thought of getting some 5" for my da, the 4" work well on my gg6 and thought they would be a good pad to use with my Rupes or Torq 22D.

Well, I have a friend who prints T - shirts!

The first time I used the Cyan, it immediately reminded me of the old Meguiar`s burgundy pad I used to use on a rotary years ago.

Now I mostly use a r/o, and those pads get me great results, and spin like crazy on the paint.

I got interested in these because guys were blowing them out so badly. I wanted to see for myself why and how that was.

The first thing I was able to do, was decrease the speed of my machine from 6 to 4.5/5.

Then I reduced the amount of compound, and pressure.

Next I brushed them out after every cycle.

Yeah, they`re not as pretty as they were, but they still work great!

Your process is exactly like mine.. :)

Have also run some Cyans down to thinner than the thin pads they make, and had to let them go..
Hard German paint (Porsche Cayenne) will take them down pretty fast if it`s really scratched.. But they WILL win the fight! :)

I also clean them (with a clean white towel after every pass), and they last forever before I have to change them out.
And of course, they work better because they are cleaned of old product and dead stuff from the paintwork..

The type of foam they use for these is still the best - it hardly absorbs anything - and yes - they spin like crazy ! :)

And what is the one thing everyone needs to get best paint correction and finishing ? Yeah, pad rotation... :)

I also don`t run high speeds ever on the Makita because I don`t need it either with these pads... :)
They flat work; and of course with slower speeds, the product you are using has more time to work through its own cycle with the paintwork..

Hope they never quit making them.. :) We might just be the only people still buying them... :) :) :)

If you ever make the T-Shirt, I will buy a few ! No one but Detailers will ever figure out what it means.. :)

Yes, I use nothing but 5.25" pads on anything that is doing big correction work.. The Random Orbitals work really well with that size rather than the bigger 6" size.
And you have more control of the machine..

And I also go down from 4" to 2" pads for just that little deeper scratch/defect/etc., that I just want to get out and not change the rest of the paintwork too much.. And for all the plastic painted parts including lights and tail lights, the smaller pads are perfect..

Not anymore! Wanted to see what all the hubub concerning these was so just ordered 3 sets of (6) @ $33.95 per set. At $5.65 per pad, seems like a bargain to and apparently go well with the DAT Menzerna & Wolfgang polishes/compounds of which I recently became a fan.

We`ll see...

I`d buy at least two T-Shirts (at reasonable pricing). About 2, or 3 sales ago, I picked up quite a few pads. Most of those were the Hydro-Shreds in sizes from 3" up to 6.5". Most were in 5.5".

I tried it for the first time on a Flex 3401, the smaller backing plate and the 4" Tangerine pad with a 1 step. I liked the experience so much, I did the entire passenger side with this combo. (I had already done the rest of the car using other machine/product).

The Flex was so smooth. Quiet. The pad spun with no issues. The finish was good. Yup. I`m itching to try the other pads/sizes with the 3401. And of course, the PE-14, too!

Oh No !!! You`re buying them all up !! :)
Hope they keep making them..

Mi Hermano !
Glad you like the way they work !

The Cyan (Blue) one really works great with any compound to knock down defects and still leave a beautiful, clear, finish for me..

The Tangerine (Orange) one takes the clarity and gloss even higher, or by itself, as we have found, can do a great job correcting defects too, but may need more passes to achieve that.. For sure, Tangerine alone will really finish down with beautiful gloss and clarity...

And the best part - they dont absorb very much but rather keep all the product down on the surface where it needs to be to work the paint for you...

Just saw a post on AutoGeek where Mike Phillips indicated that the white lowpro was actually a closed cell (or hybrid) pad while the others were open cell.

Well, looking at the Autopia Store Lake Country Hydro-Tech Pad description, it says these pads are closed-cell pre-polymer foam.. Look at the description of the Cyan pad..

They only sell the thin Hydro-Shreds here now, I prefer the regular thicker ones for Rotary use so I have to buy them at DI...

All the hydrotechs are closed cell I thought. In the Autogeek post he referred to the `normal` flat Thin Pros as the ones where the white was closed cell/hybrid while the other colors of standard Thin Pros were open cell.

Ha!

I don`t see them discontinuing these pads anytime soon. I understand that pads are trending towards the thinner varieties, but LC might be able to offer thin Hydros one day too.

I totally hear you on those thick Hydrotech pads. I had some last spring/summer and I thought they were great! I used them on the flex 3401, and the PC. They did a fantastic job, and were super efficient doing so. I remember doing my dad`s 2006 Charger with M105 on a Tangering, and that was basically a one step! The way it finished down, the way it cut..... I couldn`t believe it. Then when I tried the Cyan with FG400... This was all using the PC, and the thick Hydrotech pads...

Ok man.

Time for a new thread. "Look for the Lake Country Hydrotech Appreciation Thread".

They work great with SMAT polishes, but with a PC, and Menzerna, they`re a match made in Heaven.

I`m thinking about ordering some Menzerna FG400. Has anyone used it and the 3d AAT compound? I`ve been using the 3d for about a year now. I like it but do find that it has a lot of filling properties.

xtremekustomz- You want to switch to a diminishing-abrasive product after having used the 3D?

Interesting that you`re getting filling with the 3D...I`ve only used the HD but it doesn`t fill for me.

I have used both FG400 and 3D AAT compound. Not side by side, though. Not even using similar pad/polisher combo.

BOTH are great products. IME using them, I feel the FG400 finishes off better. That`s using it with a Megs MF Cut Disc. The 3D AAT compound, I used with a wool pad and rotary. This has been the FASTEST correction I have seen.

As far as filling, can`t say I`ve had that, but I was using it with an aggressive pad (wool) to remove sanding marks. I did the usual IPA (or maybe Griot`s wipe) and don`t think there was any filling going on.

For what it`s worth, hehe, BOTH products stink (scent wise).

Here`s a thread of the 3D AAT Compounding I mentioned: http://www.autopia.org/forums/machi...hru-3d-aat-flex-mirka-abralon.html?highlight=
