I'd rather not talk about it. I hate it enough as it is. I think you can understand if not, call me and I'll handle it

I'll bet someones bank account here that If Scottwax or somebody so damn popular on here were to post the same thing, he'd get over 30 replies by now, look at my signature and you'll see what I mean when I say this is bull ****,,,,,AR

Hey, it doesn't look that bad. It's hard to see, did you just tag the hood a little? It would be lucky if you missed it, but it looks like you just caught the edge. What's that in the last pic? Are those some parts from underneath?

Ok I do apologize and to you too Scottwax, seriously. Second I hope you guys understand I'm alittle edgy since this accident. I hope were cool here, forgiven?

Ok now the details:

I was in a 35mph Zone on Theo Moll Drive. There's a couple bends around this road. Around the first bend there must of been some black ice because little did I know that was about to hit it. My truck started to slide and out of reflexes I slammed on the brakes. I couldn't control the truck regardless what I did and next thing I know I hit a concrete barrier. I hit the barrier going about 10mph. The stupid thing is my truck is equipped with dual air bags and neither one of them came out when it should've.

So with some persuasion I got my truck unstuck from the snow but I fried my tranny and as a result I lost all the forward gears but it still has reverse, what good does that do me? not much. A minute later I was able to flag down a trucker and he called the local PD and I called mother on my cell phone, thank god I had it with me! 3 units from the PD came out to question me and look at the truck. One of the cops radio'd the local tow garage and came out to haul me out. But because of my too harsh persusion from the getting the truck unstuck I fried the tranny and had to have it towed to the Ford Garage where it sits now. I'm ok, not even a scratch on me but the truck is way out of whack due to this as you see in the pics. Thus far we havn't done anything because we have yet to deal with the insurance company. This process will take awhile and hopefully I can get my truck back and fixed A.S.A.P It really sucks to not have your own vehicle.

I feel bad because I obviously caused the accident and hence the title of this thread, I paniced. Words cannot describe how irate I am about panicking. A lady from the insurance company called and since my tranny damage is accident related, they offered me a rental car at the costs of the insurance policy.

So that's the skinny for now and all in all, the feeling of being irate and edgy for awhile gets old and I just want my truck back and this thing blown over, that's all. I'm sick of it, I'm sick of panicking and I'm sick of being broke. That's about it for now and I'll keep everyone who cares updated of what's going on,,,,,,,AR

P.S Again I do apologize for being mean to everyone here. I think you can understand how I'm feeling.

I totally have no idea what you're getting at, but I'm glad you seem to be ok.

I think the members just want to know what the story was.

Setec, it may not be bad as far as the damage itself goes but it's bad enough for me to make me rebuild my perspective of driving, I think you can understand that. The last pic was supposed to be just a side shot of the damage. The tires there are just old tires that Ford replaced on there cars in the garage,,,,AR

AR- Glad you're OK and that the damage wasn't worse. I ruined the best car I've ever owned (and one I can't replace) by hitting a deer in late '03 so I really do empathize. The *BIG* thing is that you weren't seriously injured.

AirborneRanger,

I highly suggest you look into a car control course. I took one through BMW and it really does open your eyes to how vehicles handle, what you can and cannot do, and what steps need to be taken to attempt to pull out of a situation. Slamming on the brakes is often times not one of them, and may actually worsen the situation. I do realize that if you hit ice you may not be able to do anything...

Sorry about what happened.

Driving, like life, is full of twists and the unexpected. A patch of glare ice, someone running a stop sign or a red light, deer, these are the things that happen along the way that no one can avoid. If we're lucky, we are not permanently damaged by them. The best we can do is thank that luck, try and learn from the experience if there is anything to learn, and hope that we can avoid the avoidable ones.

It sounds to me like you couldn't have done anything differently. If you think you caused the accident by jamming on the brakes, if there was only a little spot of ice, once you came of the ice the tires would have bitten, and you probably would have stopped. So, my (having not been there) conclusion is it was ice all the way to the concrete barrier, and you probably had the best possible result by slowing down to 10. Think what might have happened if you had swapped ends.

PS You're lucky the airbags didn't inflate, seems like you didn't need them, and that would be one more replacement to pay for .

Sorry to hear about your accident, but i'm glad to hear your OK. I'm not sure I 100% understand, but were you the only car involved? If you were and only caused damage to your truck than I wouldn't go to crazy about it. Not to Hijack but a long story short the right lane completely stopped short and I couldn't stop :( . Ended up totaling the civic in front of me which messed up an older Benz in front of him. I really felt like crap afterwards, but life doesn't always go your way. I learned to loosen up and joke about it a couple months after. I can't even imagine how much my insurance went up, I'm under 21, male and in NJ :scared . But at least everyone was fine and i'm here to tell the story now. Don't be to hard on yourself, accidents happen especially in the winter, don't beat yourself up over it.

I guess I'd better not mention is was 74 and sunny here.....

Sucks when that happens but the important thing is you are okay. I've done the same thing but only fried a back tire trying to get back on the pavement.

If it wasn't for the transmission the damage probably wouldn't be too bad and honestly, you should be glad the airbags didn't deploy, on anything over 4-5 years, that can be an instant total due to the cost of replacing them and the steering wheel and dash covers.

Oh yeah, if it makes you feel any better, I ran into the back of a car on Central Avenue (Phoenix) while cruising. I was looking at the two cute girls in the car next to me when BANG! I learned how to replace a front end clip at my own expense. :(

Anything besides 1st generation air bags should not deploy in a 10mph accident. Most cars had 2nd generation air bags by 1998. Air bags were developed because even if you're wearing a seatbelt, you will still kiss the steering wheel and get facial injuries (possibly fatal) in accidents that exceed 35mph.

A guy I know had 1st generation air bags. He got into a 5-10mph fender bender. He said there was almost no damage to the car, but the air bag came out and broke his nose. These problems were fixed with the 2nd generation air bags. Many vehicles now have 3rd generation air bags which made even more improvements.

Glad you're OK Ranger, and like others here I didn't respond to your original post simply because it was rather cryptic and I didn't realize what happened until you explained.

Driving up North with snow and black ice presents a true challenge at times. I know you don't think so now, but it could have been a lot worse. The important thing is you didn't injure yourself or another driver/passenger. Over on another forum there is a member (also from Ohio I believe) who almost totaled his car under similar conditions about a month or so ago.

Learn what you can from your experience and realize that accidents are going to happen. It's a bummer to be involved in an accident, but it will all work out.

Thanks guys for your concern. A sign of professionalism on this board which I appreciate, even when I am mad.

I can just see it now. Me and insurance company:
