Well, Still no phone call and it's after 5 EDT here so for sure the guy said if it wasn't in this afternoon it will be for sure tommorow morning. Of course since I thought it would be cool to get the rental and check it out, turns out I'm not allowed to drive it. OF course my Father thinks "it's a bad idea to drive it too much" Keep in mind I have a 75mile a day limit on this thing which is more than ample for my schedule. I'm 21 and I still get restricted from driving cars. How stupid is that,,,,,AR
Update: I got the rental this morning. It's a white 2003 Ford Taurus with 27K on the clock. Very clean, drives really nice and smooth. Man, the paint job is really starting to look oxidized and it feels very chalky. Being a rental that is, probably don't spend alot of time with it.
Now about my Ranger. It was towed over to Fitzgeralds to inspect the damage. So far they think that it "might" be totalled. We don't know for sure yet. Since the impact where the damage is dead on center on the grille and bumper as you see in the pics on the first page. The transmission yet hasn't been considered yet but the bumper and grille take up alot of space so to speak and the tranny might put it over the top to be fixed :sosad Since the impact was dead center, that's how the tranny was damaged because the force was enough to damage it. Also found out too that after getting my hood to open at the body shop, the condenser from the A/C is also damaged and Joe at the body shop found one at a junkyard for $100 as compared to about $700 new:scared
IF per say the truck is considered totalled, then the insurance company will write me a check or something as to how much they think the truck was worth before it was damaged. Not including the mileage, it's overall condition how well it runs etc... just the frontend area will be looked at. That's about it for now and I'll continue to keep everyone up to speed,,,,,,AR
Like I said, we don't know for sure if the truck is totalled but so far it's starting to sound that way.
No offense, but you're blowing the lack of response out of proportion. Overall, it was a very minor accident and hopefully you have learned a couple of things (like slow down in slippery conditions). You became irritated when someone asked what happened and now you're irritated that people are not responding. Make up your mind.
Nope havn't forgotten about this thread. Well the other I got my truck back from the body shop and tranny shop. The truck was out of my sights for a month! You would not believe how long the list of parts is of stuff they replaced, sheesh! They did a good job of putting everything back together. Everything lines up correctly, but you can see clear evidence of where they taped off to mask for paint, massive amount of orange peel in the new paint job on the hood and swirls and more swirls.
The truck rides and drives like brand new, no little noises from here or there and just feels very solid. I dunno if it's me or the truck but it seems the steering feels somewhat tighter than before and it seems more difficult to turn the wheel. So much to say don't know where to start I have a Makita in the mail so once I get some experience I can take out those swirls, hopefully. *Watches spider crawl down wall* All in all I give there work about a 5/10 had it not have so much orange peel and make the masking tape less noticeable I would've bumped it up to 7/10. Man it just feels good to have it back,,,,AR
So what's your process going to be on the new paint (that is...once it's cured and ready to be detailed)? Since I was in the middle of my search for new wheels when you left for a while, check out this thread.
welcome back AR. i actually had been wondering where you were as far as the Ranger. am sorry about the orange peel. i suffer from orange peel everyday with my 03 silverado. i know there is not much i can do about it so i just try to keep it shiny and as good of condition as i can.
again, nice to hear that you are back on the road.
Thanks Max and cwcad. I'll probably just leave the orange peel alone since I don't have the skills nor know how to remove such a defect. I do have a Makita coming to me from coastaltool and it should be in sometime this week. About the best I can do and all I want to do is just light polish such as #80 then slap on some NXT or something or maybe get alittle crazy and throw on some 1zGlanz, UPP or something else along those lines.
On the other side of the story, I was pretty upset the whole time my truck was gone and to add insult to injury my dog died and he was like a brother to me but I would rather not talk about him, I think you can understand. I just wanted to be away from Autopia for my own sake of keeping my membership and not pissing anyone off here because I was anything but a happy camper. So yea I'm back on my feet again and I'll post some pics A.S.A.P Thanks again:xyxthumbs AR
